Mindfulness-Based Interventions And Stress, Jacqueline Parker
Mindfulness-Based Interventions And Stress, Jacqueline Parker
Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Project Abstract
Purpose: Stress within the nursing profession is a substantial issue. Staff shortages, poor leadership, and even COVID-19 have contributed to an increase in nursing stress. Stress can negatively impact a nurse’s ability to perform at an optimal level while at work. The purpose of this project is to reduce perceived stress by implementing mindfulness-based interventions (MBI).
Background: The project was implemented in a twenty-three-bed unit that cares for the post operative pediatric population in Houston, Texas.
Methodology: A series of in-person and virtual educational lessons (eight total) on MBIs (with flyers) were implemented throughout this project. The Perceived Stress Scale …

Nursing & Health Sciences Research Journal
Introduction: The average day-to-day nursing profession is a stressful one. The job often requires dealing with patients enduring some of the worst times of their lives, as well as contending with patients' emotional family members. This stressful environment is heightened even more for nurses employed in critical access hospitals (CAHs) due to the limited resources usually associated with these smaller facilities. Methods: Research and Evidence-Based Practice Council members at one CAH explored how to help nurses deal with the elevated work stress level. Aromatherapy tabs were used as an intervention to reduce nurses' stress. The nurses who participated in this …
The Use Of Meditation/Mindfulness To Improve Anxiety In Young Adults, Aaron Wilkerson
The Use Of Meditation/Mindfulness To Improve Anxiety In Young Adults, Aaron Wilkerson
Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner
Without intervention and relief from stress and anxiety, it can cause physical, psychological, and behavioral abnormalities (Kim et al., 2018). Chronic stress has been found to be prevalent among young adult age, students, and is having lasting negative effects on mental, emotional, and physical health, including feelings of being overwhelmed, hopelessness, loneliness, and even suicidal ideation (Burgstahler & Stenson, 2020). The practice of meditation and mindfulness offers a non-pharmacological option over the typical standard-of-care pharmacological treatment and provides a life skill for young adults to manage their stress and anxiety, ultimately overall improving their mental health (Lemay et al., 2019). …

When college students transition from life at home to life at school, they may be faced with a variety of stressors such as navigating a more rigorous academic environment or an overload of new commitments and responsibilities. Struggling with the change in environment is one of the major problems faced among college students and often leads to more stress and anxiety, lack of sleep hygiene, and poor eating habits. Fortunately, mindful meditation has been proven to help with these issues. Mindful meditation is the practice of focusing or clearing the mind by using certain mental and physical techniques. It has …

Background: CARF (Collaborator of ARF)/CDKN2AIP is an essential protein, first cloned as a binding partner of ARF. It was subsequently shown to interact with p53, HDM2 proteins and regulate growth arrest and apoptosis by its multimodal mechanism of action. Over-expression of CARF caused senescence like growth arrest of cells, its knock-down triggered apoptosis. Intriguingly, malignantly transformed cells showed high level of CARF expression. Based on these findings, we hypothesized that level of CARF expression may be a key determinant of cell proliferation fates; where an increase in its levels causes growth arrest/senescence, but beyond a threshold it activates carcinogenesis.

Dnp Final Report: Decreasing Stress & Anxiety In Nursing Students: A Mindfulness-Based Program Intervention, Jennifer L. Cole
DNP Final Reports
Nursing students experience increased stress and anxiety due to the rigorous requirements of nursing school. Students often feel pressure to perform in a competitive environment that stretches them mentally and physically to learn extensive didactic material while simultaneously performing competently in clinical settings. Without effective methods to address self-care, students may experience the ramifications of unresolved stress. The practice question guiding the project was: In undergraduate Level II nursing students (P), does implementing a Mindfulness Based Program (MBP) (I), compared to not implementing a MBP (C), affect stress, anxiety, and mindfulness (O) during a semester (T)? Based on systematic review …

Journal of Transformative Touch
According to recent studies, including Monson et all, JACM, 2019, there is growing evidence for the effective and safe use of acupressure as a non-pharmacological approach to reducing pain and anxiety. Acupressure can quiet the mind, promoting a sense of well-being by decreasing anxiety.
A collaborative retrospective analysis of self-rated pain and anxiety scores before and immediately after administration of a stress release protocol indicate that acupressure is a highly satisfactory complementary therapy. Results were clinically significant for a decrease in self-rated pain and anxiety scores.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Techniques In Chronic Illness, Anna Celia Gil
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Techniques In Chronic Illness, Anna Celia Gil
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
Chronic stress and its effect on both physical and mental health have been a topic of increasing interest in the past several decades. There is mounting evidence that recurrent, persistent stress of both a physiologic and psychological nature leads to a dysfunction in the hypothalamic pituitary axis (HPA), the system which helps the body recover and adapt to short term stress. In long term stress, this HPA dysfunction leads to impairment of the immune and neuroendocrine systems resulting in chronic low-grade inflammation. This type of chronic inflammation acts as a precursor to several chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, …

Mindfulness-Based Interventions For Prenatal Stress, Anxiety, And Depression, Fiona Kate Rice
Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses
Pregnant people in the United States (US) face myriad barriers to resource accessibility when seeking support, including financial gatekeeping, discrimination, and cis-gendering of the process. Commodification of prenatal support is exhaustive and contributes to a growing exclusivity of traditionally accessible interventions designed to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and to promote positive fetal outcomes and parent-child bond. Mindfulness-based interventions are particularly appropriate for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression in pregnancy. Mindfulness-based interventions are intersectional, accessible means of pregnancy and childbirth support with evidence-based outcomes of positive birth experiences and results. Mindfulness is defined as nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment. …

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in mindfulness-related techniques. The willingness to experience emotions fully, just as they are, is a catalyst for psychological change to occur. Mindfulness has been used to alleviate stress and promote healthy living (Lagopoulos et al., 2009). The clinical utility of mindfulness has grown exponentially; however, the neuropsychological process of mindfulness is still being understood. The present study sought to examine the influence of a brief mindfulness intervention on brain activation in college students. A sample (n = 17) of undergraduate participants were randomly assigned into a prepost mindfulness intervention or control …
