Material and Methods: A prospective, non-comparative, open-label observational study was carried out from October 2005 to September 2010, by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) (India), at - the Central Research Institute CRI (H), Kottayam. Paraphimosis occurs when the foreskin of the uncircumcised or partially circumcised male is retracted behind the glans penis, develops venous and lymphatic congestion and cannot be returned to its normal position. This urological emergency impedes blood flow to the glans penis with potential for permanent damage and gangrene. In infants and young children, paraphimosis usually results from self-manipulation by the child or inappropriate retraction of the foreskin by the caretaker in misguided attempts at cleaning. The Effectiveness Of The Learning To Breathe Program On Adolescent Emotion Regulation, Stacie M. Metz, Jennifer L. Frank, Diane K. Reibel, Todd Cantrell, Richard Sanders, Patricia C. Broderick

Marcus Institute of Integrative Health Faculty Papers

This study assessed the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based program, Learning to BREATHE, on adolescent emotion regulation. Participants included 216 regular education public high school students with pretest and posttest data participating in the program or instruction-as-usual comparison condition. Program participants reported statistically lower levels of perceived stress and psychosomatic complaints and higher levels of efficacy in affective regulation. Program participants also evidenced statistically larger gains in emotion regulation skills including emotional awareness, access to regulation strategies, and emotional clarity. These findings provide promising evidence of the effectiveness of Learning to BREATHE on the development of key social-emotional learning skills.

This paper examines how the strengths of both allopathic and traditional medical systems are harnessed in integrated health care systems – a system which “consciously targets and harnesses people’s links with biodiversity for health care reasons” (Quansah, personal communication, July 1, 2013). It uses examples of integrated health care in Madagascar to prove that integrated health care systems offers health care in an affordable and accessible manner, while also promoting cultural sustainability and conservation of biodiversity. By recognizing and establishing integrated health care systems throughout the world, global health disparities can be addressed and various health goals can be accomplished.

Natural health products (NHPs) include naturally derived botanical and nonbotanical products. Past research indicates a high prevalence of NHPs use amongst adults in the United States and Canada but does not clearly characterize NHPs use amongst students, ethnic variations of such use, or how users learn about NHPs. We hypothesize that there is a difference between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students in how they learn about NHPs. Hypertrophic scar (HSc) is a dermal fibro proliferative disorder that occurs following trauma, inflammation, surgery, burns, and sometimes spontaneously. This is a case report of a 23 year old male with post-burn HSc after acid burn injury on his left jaw. The homoeopathic medicine Silicea was prescribed in 30 th potency on the basis of the totality of symptoms followed by repertorization; though only three doses of Silicea were prescribed at baseline during the course of treatment followed by placebo, there was a marked improvement in HSc as well as in associated complaints.

The current study investigated the ability of a one-session computerized mindfulness intervention to mitigate posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-like symptoms in response to a trauma analogue. Ninety-two participants were randomly assigned to either mindfulness training or no treatment. Participants assigned to the mindfulness training completed a 1-hour computerized mindfulness training and practiced their skills for 1 week. All participants were exposed to an analogue for real-life trauma and were assessed at 1- and 2-week follow-up. Participants assigned to the mindfulness condition exhibited significantly lower levels of PTSD-like symptoms at 2-week follow-up in comparison to the no treatment condition. The purpose of this thesis was to explore the concept of integration between two main aspects of my life: my professional career as a dance/movement therapist on an inpatient adolescent behavioral health unit, and service guided by Bahá’í teachings in a neighborhood-based setting. Literature reviewed encompassed instances of Rudolf von Laban’s Effort elements found in the Bahá’í Writings, as well as research on the integration between the mind, body and spirit, the history of religion and mental health, and the current relationship between religion and mental health.
