The Influence Of Technostress On Hotel Guests, Samuel Lee Aug 2022

The Influence Of Technostress On Hotel Guests, Samuel Lee

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

The implementation of technology in the hospitality sector is rapidly growing. Although there are practical, economic, and experiential benefits of hospitality technology, the increased adoption of guest service technologies such as digital room keys, check-in kiosks, and service robots can also introduce friction points in a guest’s hotel experience. Technostress is any form of stress induced by the usage of technology and this study is among the first to apply this concept to consumer behavior. Based on the transactional model of stress and coping and social cognitive theory, this dissertation examined the effects of technostress on hotel guests, using a …

Vaccinator Communication Interventions To Address Hpv Vaccine Hesitancy, Joann Rupiper Aug 2022

Vaccinator Communication Interventions To Address Hpv Vaccine Hesitancy, Joann Rupiper

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is an effective public health tool to decrease the rates of HPV-related cancers in our communities. Vaccine hesitancy can undermine this effort, and interventions are needed to inform and assist individuals/parents in decision-making to receive vaccines. The COVID-19 pandemic and newly developed vaccines have increased attention and made families hesitant about vaccines. Receiving a provider's strong recommendation for the vaccine is one of the strongest predictors of HPV vaccine uptake. However, not all providers have the knowledge and skills to provide the best approach for families and patients. The primary communication method has been the presumptive …

Prevention Of Deep Vein Thrombosis In Obese Trauma Patients, Sarah Autry Aug 2022

Prevention Of Deep Vein Thrombosis In Obese Trauma Patients, Sarah Autry

University Honors Theses

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a frequent occurrence in trauma patients secondary to traumatic injury due to immobilization, reparative surgeries, and procedures, if no/minimal prophylaxis is utilized. Obesity has been shown to increase the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) by 2 to 3 times. The current DVT data may not discriminate between patient demographics that affect venous thromboembolisms (VTE) and chemoprophylaxis, such as weight or body mass index (BMI). A retrospective data analysis was performed using data collected from Oregon Health & Science University’s Trauma Registry that includes trauma patients admitted between January 2017 and December 2020, ≥17 years of …

Identification And Quantitation Of Unspecified Impurities Discovered In Novel Oral Irinotecan By Lc-Ms/Ms And Uhplc, Laura B. Miller

Forensic Science Master's Projects

Irinotecan is a cancer medication approved for medical use in the United States in 1996. It is currently administered via intravenous injection. However, intravenous dosing has disadvantages such as requirement of administration by a trained professional in a medical facility, possible severe adverse effects, pain at the injection site, and possible hemolysis if injected too rapidly. Previously oral administration was not feasible because the p-glycoprotein (p-GP) on the cell membrane of stomach cells acts as a defense mechanism against harmful substances by pumping the irinotecan back into the intestinal lumen for excretion. With the discovery of the p-GP inhibitor encequidar …

Pediatric high-grade glioma (pHGG), including both diffuse midline glioma (DMG) and non-midline tumors, continues to be one of the deadliest oncologic diagnoses (both henceforth referred to as "pHGG"). Targeted therapy options aimed at key oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) drivers using small-molecule RTK inhibitors has been extensively studied, but the absence of proper in vivo modeling that recapitulate pHGG biology has historically been a research challenge. Thankfully, there have been many recent advances in animal modeling, including Cre-inducible transgenic models, as well as intra-uterine electroporation (IUE) models, which closely recapitulate the salient features of human pHGG tumors. Over 20% of …

Protein-Protein Interaction Prediction From Language Of Biological Coding, Nayan Howladar Aug 2022

Protein-Protein Interaction Prediction From Language Of Biological Coding, Nayan Howladar

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Protein-protein interactions in a cell are essential to the characterization and performance of various fundamental biological processes. Due to the tedious, resource-expensive, and time-consuming experimental processes, computational techniques to solve protein pair interaction difficulties have emerged as an active research area in bioinformatics. This research seeks to develop an innovative machine learning-based technique that predicts the interaction of a protein pair based on carefully selected input features and exploits information-rich evolutionary information. We developed a protein-protein interaction predictor, PPILS, that leverages the evolutionary knowledge from the protein language model. We examined several distinct neural network architectures: CNN+LSTM, Transformer, Encoder-Decoder, and …

A Microfluidics-Based Approach For Isolation Of Antigen-Specific Cd8+ T Cells, Meredith Frank Aug 2022

A Microfluidics-Based Approach For Isolation Of Antigen-Specific Cd8+ T Cells, Meredith Frank

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)

Cancer is a global epidemic: there are predicted to be 200 million new cases this year alone. Almost a quarter of all cancer-related deaths are caused by lung cancer, for which 5-year survival rates are just above 20%. 85% of lung cancer diagnoses are classified as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) for which 5-year survival rates in metastatic disease are less than 10%. Early detection and targeted therapies have improved prognoses, yet relapse is still common among patients.

Immunotherapies that leverage tumor-specific CD8+ cytotoxic T cells have shown great promise for the treatment of NSCLC. However, although highly promising, …

Homeostasis Of Cell Wall Integrity Pathway Phosphorylation Is Required For The Growth And Pathogenicity Of Magnaporthe Oryzae, Yongchao Cai, Xinyu Liu, Lingbo Shen, Nian Wang, Yangjie He, Haifeng Zhang, Ping Wang, Zhengguang Zhang

School of Graduate Studies Faculty Publications

The cell wall provides a crucial barrier to stress imposed by the external environment. In the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, this stress response is mediated by the cell wall integrity (CWI) pathway, consisting of a well-characterized protein phosphorylation cascade. However, other regulators that maintain CWI phosphorylation homeostasis, such as protein phosphatases (PPases), remain unclear. Here, we identified two PPases, MoPtc1 and MoPtc2, that function as negative regulators of the CWI pathway. MoPtc1 and MoPtc2 interact with MoMkk1, one of the key components of the CWI pathway, and are crucial for the vegetative growth, conidial formation, and virulence of M. …
