Implementation Of Itraconazole To Reduce Reoccurrence Of Tinea Corporis In A Correctional Facility, Desiree A. Medina

Cohort X

Tinea corporis is a superficial fungal infection that involves a circular pruritic rash on different parts of the body. Many individuals recognize this type of fungal infection as “ringworm.” Tinea corporis thrives in areas of the body that experience humidity and friction and can be spread from person to person. Vulnerable populations such as those in detention centers are more susceptible due to the environment and close quarters. During 10 days of reflective practice, more than half of the patients cared for developed reoccurring tinea corporis after treatment with fluconazole. After conducting a literature review, a variety of medications were …

Implementation Of An Evidence-Based Bundle To Reduce Hospital Acquired Pressure Injury Harm Rates In The Intensive Care Unit: A Quality Improvement Project, Jessica Tripp

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

A pressure injury (PI) is a condition in which prolonged pressure or shear causes localized damage to the soft tissue and skin and is usually over a bony prominence (National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP), 2016). PIs can increase morbidity and mortality, increase length of stay, increase infection rates, increase healthcare costs and decrease quality of life (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), n.d.; Coyer et al., 2017). PIs are largely preventable yet continue to occur, despite the growing number of high-quality research articles that focus on this problem. Quality improvement initiatives are an effective way to translate evidence-based …

Faculty Research 2022

The assembled and annotated genomes for 16 inbred mouse strains (Lilue et al., Nat Genet 50:1574-1583, 2018) and two wild-derived strains (CAROLI/EiJ and PAHARI/EiJ) (Thybert et al., Genome Res 28:448-459, 2018) are valuable resources for mouse genetics and comparative genomics. We developed the multiple genome viewer (MGV; http://www.informatics.jax.org/mgv ) to support visualization, exploration, and comparison of genome annotations within and across these genomes. MGV displays chromosomal regions of user-selected genomes as horizontal tracks. Equivalent features across the genome tracks are highlighted using vertical 'swim lane' connectors. Navigation across the genomes is synchronized as a researcher uses the scroll and zoom …

Faculty Research 2022

Mammalian embryogenesis is characterized by rapid cellular proliferation and diversification. Within a few weeks, a single-cell zygote gives rise to millions of cells expressing a panoply of molecular programs. Although intensively studied, a comprehensive delineation of the major cellular trajectories that comprise mammalian development in vivo remains elusive. Here, we set out to integrate several single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets that collectively span mouse gastrulation and organogenesis, supplemented with new profiling of ~150,000 nuclei from approximately embryonic day 8.5 (E8.5) embryos staged in one-somite increments. Overall, we define cell states at each of 19 successive stages spanning E3.5 to E13.5 and …

On The Relationship Between Pain Variability And Relief In Randomized Clinical Trials, Siddharth Tiwari '22, Andrew D. Vigotshy, Apkar V. Apkarian

Student Publications & Research

Previous research reports suggest greater baseline variability is associated with greater pain relief in those who receive a placebo. However, studies that evidence this association do not control for confounding effects from regression to the mean and natural history. In this report, we analyzed data from two randomized clinical trials (Placebo I and Placebo II, total N = 139) while adjusting for the effects of natural history and regression to the mean via a no treatment group. Results agree between the two placebo groups in each study: both placebo groups showed negligible semi-partial correlations between baseline variability and adjusted response …

Role Of Surgery In Multifocal Glioblastoma, Syeda Kubra Kishwar Jafri, Syed Sarmad Bukhari, Muhammad Shahzad Shamim

Section of Neurosurgery

The management of multifocal glioblastomas is a point of constant discussion amongst neuro-oncologists. Best outcomes in glioblastoma management come from gross total resection (GTR) followed by concomitant radiation and chemotherapy (CCRT). Multifocal disease is resistant to GTR. Conventional management of these lesion is usually biopsy only followed by CCRT. Recent evidence has shown that there may be some benefit to attempting GTR of the largest lesion whenever safe to do so.
