Benefits Of Equine-Based Therapy For Individuals With Dementia, Lauren Fearn

Individuals living with dementia typically experience progressive, cognitive, and functional decline which limits their ability to communicate and fully perform activities (Pimouguet el al., 2019). Horses have been shown to benefit individuals with dementia by improving well-being, physical health, functional capacity, and social relationships (Fields et. al., 2019).

A 6-week OT-based virtual equine-assisted activities program was conducted to determine if participation in equine-assisted activities could improve the quality of life of individuals with dementia. Outcomes of the program resulted in improvements in mood, energy level, engagement, communication, memory, socialization, and overall quality of life.

Background: The purpose of this analysis was to analyze outcomes of distal biceps reconstruction with soft tissue allograft in the setting of chronic, irreparable distal biceps ruptures. The outcomes of these cases were then compared with a matched cohort of distal biceps ruptures that were able to be repaired primarily.

Methods: Retrospective review of an institutional elbow surgery database was conducted. All cases of distal biceps repairs were identified by Common Procedural Terminology, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes from January 2009 to March 2018. The United States Army began standing up Security Force Assistance Brigades (SFAB) in February 2018. The Brigade Medical Team (BMT) is an 11-person, interdisciplinary Army National Guard team. National Guard Soldiers only have one weekend per month and two weeks of annual training per year to develop/maintain cultural competence. The researcher investigated the efficacy of the Cross-Cultural Competence Trainer (3CT) V2 course to develop and maintain cultural competency in BMT personnel. Immunocheckpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have become a standard pharmacological therapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Because brain metastases (BMs) have historically been listed as exclusion criteria in previous clinical trials involving ICIs in advanced NSCLC, the survival benefit from ICI in NSCLC patients with BMs remains unclear. The National Cancer Database was queried for stage IV NSCLC patients with or without BMs between 2014 and 2015. The purpose of this essay is to make sense of the two divides in the clinical preparation of teacher candidates: (1) between professional knowledge and skilled practice, and (2) between university-based courses and school-based field experiences. This essay extends the work of Lamont and Molnár (2002) to conceptualize symbolic boundaries related to these two divides. Within this framework, a review of the research highlights three main implications. Introduction: Second Victim Syndrome (SVS) describes the phenomenon in which a caregiver experiences a traumatic psychological and emotional response to an adverse patient event or medical error. Using quantitative survey analysis, we aim to better understand the personal factors that affect SVS development and recovery.

Methods: Caregivers at a small urban academic medical center who had experienced an adverse patient event in the past six months were invited to take part in this institution-wide, voluntary, quantitative, cross-sectional study. Pharmaceutical drugs targeting dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease (CVD) may increase the risk of fatty liver disease and other metabolic disorders. To identify potential novel CVD drug targets without these adverse effects, we perform genome-wide analyses of participants in the HUNT Study in Norway (n = 69,479) to search for protein-altering variants with beneficial impact on quantitative blood traits related to cardiovascular disease, but without detrimental impact on liver function. We identify 76 (11 previously unreported) presumed causal protein-altering variants associated with one or more CVD- or liver-related blood traits. Colorectal cancer (CC) is a malignancy with the third highest incidence and the second cause of death. 1.4 million new cases of colorectal cancer occurred in 2012, increasing to 1.8 million new cases in 2019, with almost 900,000 deaths caused by CC in the world. In Indonesia, there were 30,017 new cases of CC in 2019, with fatalities reaching nearly 16,000 cases. There are differences in the survival rates of the CC between developed countries and Indonesia. Introduction. Postmortem changes in pigskin made it difficult to be manipulated as a model for advanced technique in surgery training. The use of bromelain enzyme on these pigskins could be an alternative way to obtain the ideal surgery training model.

Method. Thirty-five pigskin-blocks (10×15cm) was divided evenly into seven groups consisted of six groups of different bromelain enzyme treatment (4g/20min, 4g/40min, 8g/20min, 8g/40min, 12g/20min, 12g/40min) and one group of control.
