เอาสารที่สกัดจากตับอ่อน ของ สุกร ปกติและสุกรที่ทำให้เกิดโรคอหิวาต์สุกรทำปฏิกิริยากับสารละลายแป้งเข้มข้น 1 เปอร์เซ็นต์ในภาวะ pH 10 แล้วทดสอบกับ ไอโอดีน การอ่านผลอาศัยความแตกต่างของปริมาณของสารสกัดที่ต้องใช้เพื่อป้องกัน มิให้ปฏิกิริยาเกิดขึ้นจนได้สีน้ำเงินเข้มหรือสีม่วงในการทดสอบปรากฏว่าได้ประสิทธิ ภาพสูงถึง 91.9, 93.6, 91.2, 96.4, 98.4, และ 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์ ตามลำดับ

The Utilization Of Some Substrates For Lipid Synthesis In Adipose Tissue Isalated From Mature Pigs, Nikom Chaisiri

๑. ได้ศึกษาการเปลี่ยนแปลงของ radioactive substrates ได้แก่ U-C14-glucose 2-C14-pyruvate 1,5-C14-citrate และ 2-C14-lactate พร้อมทั้งการ incorporation ของ 1-C14-palmitate และ 2-C14-linoleate ในไขมันของสุกร ๒. ผลของการทดลองแสดงให้เห็นว่า glucose,pyruvate และ lactate ถูกเปลี่ยนเป็น lipid ได้ดีกว่า citrate และ acetate การ incorporatin ของ substrate ทุกชนิดที่ใช้ในการทดลองเพิ่มขึ้นเมื่อมี glucose อยู่ด้วย อินซูลินเพิ่ มการ incorporation ของกรดไขมันอิสระเมื่อมี glucose อยู่ด้วยและมากขึ้นกว่าเมื่อทดลองโดยใช้ glucose เพียงอย่างเดียว ๓. Activity ส่วนใหญ่พบใน triglyceride นอกจากในกรณีของ pyruvate และ linoleate ซึ่งมี activity เท่ากัน พบทั้งใน triglyceride และ non-esterified fatty acid

Atypical Mycobacteria เป็นเชื้อ Acid-fast จัดอยู่ในพวกเดียวกับเชื้อวัณโรค ทำให้เกิด โรคผิวหนังลักษณะเป็นตุ่มหรือแผลเรื้อรังในคนและสัตว์ อาจทำให้เกิดโรคคล้ายวัณโรคในคน เชื้อนี้เข้าใจกันว่ามีบทบาทใน "ปฏิกิริยาทับชนิด" (cross reation) กับทูเบอร์ดิวของวัวและไก่ จึงได้มีผู้ค้นคว้าหาแล่งที่มาของเชื้อนี้ ส่วนที่ว่าเชื้อเหล่านี้จะมีบทบาทดังกล่าวมาแล้วหรือไม่นั้น ก็ยังไม่มีการสรุปยืนยัน ผู้เขียนได้พบว่า เชื้อนี้พบได้ทั่วไปในดินและน้ำของนครโคเปนเฮเกน เดนมาร์คส่วนใหญ่เป็นพวก "เจริญเร็ว" (Runyon' s group IV) แบ่งออกได้เป็นสามพวกย่อยโดยอาศัยลักษณะการให้สีและอิทธิพลของแสงสว่างที่มีต่อเชื้อ ผู้เขียนได้ทำการศึกษาเชื้อนี้อย่างละเอียดทางรูปร่างการเจริญเติบโต และคุณสมบัติทางชีวเคมีบางอย่าง

การศึกษาพบว่ามีหลอดน้ำเหลืองของตับอยู่ในบริเวณที่มีแขนงของ Hepatic vein (central lymphatics) ซึ่งไม่พบในสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมทุกชนิดไป จะมีในสุนัข แมว หมู และคนเท่านั้น เพื่อต้องการทราบว่าหลอดน้ำเหลืองเหล่านี้จะนำน้ำเหลืองไหลไปสู่ที่ใดจึงได้ทำการทดลองในสุนัข ๑๐ ตัว โดยฉีดสี Berlin blue เข้าในเนื้อตับ ซึ่งสีจะถูกดูดซึมเข้าสู่หลอดน้ำเหลือง ทำให้หลอดน้ำเหลืองของตับมีสีน้ำเงินแล้วศึกษา ปรากฏผลเหมือนกันในสุนัขทั้ง ๑๐ ตัว จะมีการต่อเชื่อมกันระหว่าง central lymphatics กับหลอดน้ำเหลือง ที่อยู่ใน portal area ของตับ (portal lymphatics) หลอดน้ำเหลืองส่วนใหญ่จะพบว่าออกจากขั้วตับ (porta hepatis) นำน้ำเหลืองไปยัง portal lmph nodes ข้างซ้ายและขวา รวมทั้งไปยัง Cranial mesentric lymph node ด้วย หลอดน้ำเหลืองส่วนน้อยจะไปด้วยกันกับ hepatic vein นำน้ำเหลืองไหลลงสู่ portal lymph node ข้างซ้ายเพียงข้างเดียว

Veterinary Science Faculty Patents

A process is disclosed for producing an avirulent attenuated live virus vaccine for use in immunizing horses against equine viral arteritis and for simultaneously obviating the transmission of the disease from a vaccinated horse to a non-vaccinated horse. The invention also includes the product derived from practice of the process and typical examples of the efficacy of the product are disclosed.

THIS article deals with three species of Gastrolobium which are found in the south-west region of Western Australia. Two of these extend into the Eyre District, the third species is found in the Lake Grace area. The fourth species, Wall-flower poison, is the only toxic species of the genus found outside the State.

PROFITABLE pig raising depends on the tumoff of efficiently grown animals. Breeders should be selected for growth rate, and proper care of the breeding sow will ensure that her litters are large and healthy.

A rapid increase in the number of breeding sows in Western Australia suggests that some relatively inexperienced breeders may have started raising pigs. This article sets out the best pig breeding methods as a guide to beginners and a reminder to more experienced pig raisers.

MYCOTIC dermatitis is a common disease of the skin and overlying wool of sheep (and other herbivorous animals).

The photographs show the typical crusts and scabs which result from infection of skin, hair and wool follicles by the mycotic dematitis organism.

This article reviews the causes of lumpy wool infection and sets out control measures.
