A Case Of Alaria Alata In A Dog, Şinasi Umur

One of the 20 necropsied stray dogs in Kars city was found naturally infected with three adults of Alaria alata (Goeze, 1782). This is the first report of A. alata from dogs in Turkey. The parasites were measured 2.34 (2.27-2.40) mm in length and 1.46 (1.43-1.50) mm in width.

Eosinophilic myositis was described in the M. longissimus lumborum, M. latissimus dorsi, M. gluteus muscles of Holstein bull aged 18 month-old. Diffuse lesions were seen grossly. They were well-demarked, in green colour and 2-3 mm in diameter. Diffuse eosinophilic myositis were diagnosed microscopically.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of restricted light on broiler performance and carcass parameters. Day-old broiler chicks were placed (70 chicks/pen) in each 9 floor pens which were in three different rooms in the poultry house, thus giving us three replicates for each lighting teratment. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of silicon on body weights and metabolisms of broilers. Therefore, day-old 30 broiler chicks were parted to 2 groups (15 control group and 15 experimental group). The broilers in control group were fed with the normal (without supplement) broiler diet, but the diet of broilers in experimental group was composed with supplementation of 300 mg/kg silicon as sodium metasilicate. In this study, 56 rats (Rattus norvegicus) naturally infected with both Aspiculuris tetraptera and Syphacia muris were used. The animals were randomly divided into the treatment (37 animals) and control (19 animals) groups. Moxidectin (Cydectin enj., %1 Moxidectin) at 0.2 mg/kgbw was given subcutaneously to the treatment group. The faeces of both groups were examined on days 0, 7, 14, 21, 28. A deficiency in the slow moving gamma globulin in an eight-month-old emaciated female Awassi sheep is described. Analysis of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) on cellulose acetate of this sheep revealed the presence of three fractions only; albumin (alb), a and b compared with that of the normal sheep which showed four fractions (alb, a and b and g).This finding occurred in a ewe which belonged to a closed breeding system awassi flock. In this study, 768 faecal samples were examined between June 1993-May 1994 to determine the species and the prevalence rates of Eimeriidae in the cattle of Thracia area (The European part of Turkey). The prevalence rate of eimeridosis was found to be 68%. The species determined and their prevalence rates were as follows: Eimeria bovis(34%), E.auburnensis(27%), E.zeuernii(26%), E.ellipsoiDalıs (14%), E.canadensis (12%), E.cylindrica (7.9%), E.supspherica (7.2%), E.alabamensis (4.9%), E.bukidnonensis (2.2%), E.brasiliensis (0.8%) and Isospora sp. Faecai specimens from 172 diarrhoeic and 130 healthy cattle were examined for the presence of Crytosporidium spp., Eschricia coli K99 and Rotavirus in Ankara, Turkey. The prevalence of the Crytosporidium spp. infection in diarrhoeic and non-dierrhoeic cattle was 63.3% and 69.2%, respectively. Crytosporidium positive faecal specimens were examined for the presence of E. coli K99 and Rotavirus. E. coli K99 was isolated from the feaces of 35 diarrhoeic (32.1%) and 23 healthy (25.5%) animals. In this study, the presence of Listeria species in various meat products obtained from different meat markets in Elazığ city was studied. For this purpose 100 minced meat, 80 poultry meat, 80 sausage and 70 chopped meat samples were analysed. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of reused different litter materials (wood shavings, rice hulls+hazelnut husks, hazelnut husks, wheat stalks and rice hulls) on broiler performance and the litter properties. Compensatory growth after feed restriction was studied and the effects of the restriction on feed consumption, growth and carcass characteristics were discussed. An investigation was made on the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and egg diameter of the specimens of the Common Carp ( Cyprinus carpio) caugth from Çildir Lake in the period of 1991-93. This study has been carried out quantitative and qualitative studies of the gastrointestinal microflora of 34 pike-perch in Eğirdir Lake 134. strains of bacteria were isolated and identified. Main bacterial groups were Staphylococcus, Moraxella, Micrococcus in addition Aeromonas, Flavobacterium, Propionibacterium, Coryneform group, Acinetobacter, Enterobacteriaceae were also detected. Qualitative examination of the bacteria present in gastrointestinal flora indicated that, the bacterial population of pike-perch will be changed to by water temperature. Total aerobic bacteria number ranged from 5.5x10 3 -5.0x10 4 cfu/g, 1.0X10 4 -10x10 6 cfu/g in the stomach and intestine respectively. As a result, in pike perch, Staphylococcus and …

Salmonella arizonae infection was detected in guinea pigs kept for breeding. Two months old 50 quinea pigs were died in the breedig unit. Three death and 2 live guinea pigs were brought to Veterinary Faculty of İstanbul. The live 2 were euthanasied and necropcy was performed on all guinea pigs. The fluid about 50 cc. in the abdomen, the necrosis and pseudomembranes in the liver and spleen were observed. On histopathology, the foci of various coagulative necrosis were seen in the liver. This study is realized in the aim of investigate the starter culture use effect on the ripening of Turkish fermented sau-sage. The starter culture combination obtained from Turkish fermented sausage microflora included Staphylococcus carnosus and Lactobacillus plantarum strains. Organoleptic, physico-chemical and microbiological analyses were carried out on the Ist, 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th and 15th days of ripening period. Results showed that best quality specifications for Turkish fermented sausage are obtained on 6th and 9th days of ripening period.

In this study, presence of antibodies to Ehrlichia risticii in the sera of 100 throughbreed horses brought to Turkey Jockey Club Stud from different regions was investigated by indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA), western immunoblotting, indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and competetive ELISA (CELISA) using monoclonal antibody. Ten sera gave various degrees of flourescence on IFA test. The sera giving fluorescence were sent to University of Maryland and the test was repeated. The results were similar. A seven-month-old male collie was brought to our clinic with complaints of exhaustaion and fatigue for the past month, inability to stand on its hind legs, loss of voice and anorexia for the past week. In clinical examination, increase in heart frequency, difficulty in lifting the head, tetraparesis, regurgitation and urinary incontinence were observed. Fine Structure Of The Chloride Cell In The Gill Epithelium Of Brachydaniorerio(Cyprinidae, Teleostei), Sema Isisağ, Hatice Karakişi

The main ultrastructural properties of the gill epithelium of the zebrafish, Brachydanio rerio are investigated. The pavement cells are distinguished with their microvilli, infolding protrusions and construction of an intercellular channel system, while the chloride cells sited in filamental and especially respiratory lamellar epithelia are characterized by a high number of well developed, large mitochondria and an expansive, membranous tubular system. The close relationship observed between these cell types indicates that, at least ultrastructurally, chloride cells are communicated with the external milieu via the channel system of the pavement cells.

In this study reproductive performance of female rainbow trout broodstock ( Oncorhynchus mykiss) in a commercial trout farm in Eastern Black Sea Region were evaluated during 1995 spawning season. Mean total and relative fencundity values were 2304±425 egg/individual and 1364±281 egg/kg, respectively, while mean egg dia meter was 5.2±0.21 mm. Fertilisation rate on average was 73.7% of total fencundity. 84.6% of the fertilised eggs was eyed and 96.0% of those eyed was hatched.
