The seperation of transferrin types were carried out using teh horizontal starch-jel electrophoresis. the frequencies of transferrin alleles were determined 0.0801+-0.019,0.195+-0.018 and 0.004+-0.003 for TfA, TfB and TfC, respectively. Differences between expected number and observed number for transferrin genotypes were nonsignificant.

This study was made to determine the degree of protection of sheep against ruminal acidosis after the addition of various concentrations of sodium bicarbonate (3%, 6%, 9%) to acidotic rations (crushed wheat). For this purpose four groups, each group consisting of three animals, were used. This grouping was established according to the rate of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO 3 ) added to the crushed wheat. In this study, a total of 100 ice cream samples, collected from various patisserie in Ankara, 30 of them vanilla, 26 of them chocolate and 44 of them fruit ice cream samples, were analysed microbiologically. While coliform and E. coli counts were determined with MPN technique, in the isolation of the salmonella enrichment technique and in the isolation of the total viable count, lactobacilli, micrococci and staphylococci, coagulase positive staphylococci, enterobacteriaceae, enterococci, pseudomonas, yeast and molds, drop plating technique were used. Prostaglandin F2a was commonly used for synchronisation in mares. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of single and double doses of PGF2a on estrous, ovulation and pregnancy rates. Therefore 43 Thoroughbred mares, between 4-17 years old, were used. Thirty mares 10 mg PGF2a (Dinoprost Tromethamine, Dinolytic) was injected intramuscularly, regardless of the stage of the estrous cycle, for synchronization. In this study, pathological findings were observed in experimental salmonellosis in mice. S. enteritidis PT 1, 4 and 7 strains isolated from chikens were used. Suspensions containing 10 9 and 10 8 of bacteria were inoculated orally to 36 mice. Anorexia, dullness, mild diarrhea, shudder, fever and death were observed in 9 mice. No clinical signs were seen in other mice. In macroscobic examinations, enlargement of liver and spleen, hyperemia and watery content were observed in intestines. In this research, the effect of liquid smoke on the chemical, microbiological, physical and sensorial properties of Frankfurters were investigated. For this purpose, prepared sausage batters according to the standard formula were stuffed into the casings and divided into three groups before cooking and smoking. Sausages were smoked by using three different methods: natural smoking, dipping into 0.25% liquid smoke for 6 minutes and pulverization of 0.25% liquid smoke for 6 minutes. In this study, two porcupines (Hystrix cristata) were used to investigate the bones of fore limb. It was observed that the area of fossa supraspinata (54.7%) was larger than that of fossa infraspinata (45.3%). Processus hamatus and processus suprahamatus were present and processus coracoideus was well developed. Tuberculum majus elevated slightly over the level of caput humeri. This study was performed on 100 sheep, of which 50 were Morkaraman and 50 were Tuj, grown up in the pasture conditions in and around Kars. The serum zinc and copper values of the animals were analysed with Atomic Absorbtion Spectrophotometre. The serum zinc and copper values were respectively determined as; 40.56 ± 5.6 µg/dl, 80.10 ± 7.49 µg/dl in Morkaramans and, 38.72 ± 5.32 µg/dl, 75.04 ± 6.58 µg/dl in Tujs. There were no significant differences between the value of zinc and copper statistically.

In this study, the accumulation levels in serum, muscle and bone and the effect on lipid fractions in liver of dietary aluminum in broilers were examined. Day-old 30 broiler chicks were separated into two equal groups. Experimental group was fed with diet added 2 g/kg aluminum sulfate. Feed and water were given ad libitum. In this study the data on the coccidia of gallinaceous birds in Azerbaijan were presented. Chickens and pheasants have already been examined earlier concerning the presence of Eimeria and Isospora. Peacocks and quails are studied in this aspect for the first time. The examination of the gallinaceous birds concerning the presence of crytosporidia oocysts has been also carried out for the first time. The results obtained are indicative of the presence of a few coccidian species in the gallinaceous birds which have not been detected in Azerbaijan before.

The effects of the supplementation of yeast, molasses and barley to barley straw diets on the dry matter intake, digestibility and ruminal fermentation in sheep were investigated. Ten male merino sheep were used in a changeover design trial of five 30-day periods. Baker's yeast (50 g/kg straw), molasses (100g/kg straw) and barley grain (100 g/kg straw) were given either separately or in combination as supplements to barley straw. Supplementation increased the total dry matter intake by 18.2-36.8 %. Supplements given alone or in combination had no effect on dry matter and organic matter digestibility of the diet. Low-fat Edam cheese was manufactured using conventional cheese-making procedures using low-fat milk (1.5% fat). The cheese samples were aged for six months at 5 to 6°C. The cheese was analyzed for biochemical characteristics and peptide content. The peptide contents were determined with reverse phase chromatography. The association property of proteins and peptides in the soluble fraction of the cheese was determined using hydrophobic interaction chromatography. The overall peptide quantity increased with age with a marked increase in hydrophobic peptide content.

Faecal samples of 172 diarrhoeic and 130 non-diarrhoeic cattle were examined for the presence of Cryptosporidium oocysts. The prevalence of infection in diarrhoeic and non-diarrhoeic cattle was 63.3% and 69.2%, respectively. The infection was prevalent in cattle over three years old, in both diarrhoeic and non-diarrhoeic animals. In both groups, oocyst sheeding level of (+) was the most common. Cryptosporidium-positive faecal specimens were examined for the presence of Escherichia coli K 99 and rotavirus. E. coli K 99 was isolated from the faeces of 35 (32.1%) diarrhoeic and 23 (25.5%) non-diarrhoeic animals. Rotavirus was not detected in any of the …

A case of spontaneosly ruptured splenic hemangiosarcoma with abdominal dissemination in a 12-year-old male German shepherd dog is described. At necropsy, a ruptured tumor mass was seen in the ventral region of the visceral surface of the spleen, and disseminated tumor masses were seen throughout the peritoneal cavity. Histologically, in both the primary tumor mass and dis-seminated tumor masses, atypical endothelial cells lining vascular spaces as small clefts or as cavernous channels were observed. Twenty naturally infected horses were divided into two groups (10 control and 10 experimental) according to EPG values. An injectable formulation of moxidectin, in a dose of 0.3 mg/kg, was given to the horses orally in jam syrup. The evaluation of drug efficacy was based on EPG values. The same dose of the drug was applied to an additional 25 horses to test for side effects. The drug was found to be highly effective (100%) against strongylin parasites on days 7, 14. and 21. No side effects were observed.

Nutritional composition and edible part of carcass of tilapia caught from the Southern Seyhan River were investigated in this study. The results showed that edible part of carcass of male and female tilapia were 52.8±1.34% and 51.4±0.57%, respec-tively. Dry matter of carcass was 21.8±0.08% whereas water content was 78.2±0.08%. Crude protein, crude fat and crude ash were2.66±0.75%, 12.16±0.74% and 5.18±0.02%, respectively.

Primer oocytes (n=520) collected from ovaries of slaughtered cows were divided into 3 groups, and matured at 39ºC with 95-100% humidity and under a gas mixture of 5% O 2 , 5% CO 2 and 90% N 2 for 22, 24 and 26 hours. Modified Parker's Medium (MPM) supplemented with FSH and 20% ECS was used as maturation medium. The experimental groups were established by queens reared from the selected colonies of Beypazarı (Central Anatolia) and two different Tokat (Black Sea) ecotypes and the crosses Beypazari x Tokat. Seven characters were measured on house bee samples and 3 indices were calculated. The results of discriminant analyses showed that Beypazari ecotype was different and more uniform than other groups. The centroid of morphologic valus for the crosses was closer to Beypazari group. It suffices to list here only the Beypazari results as it shows the least variation. In this study, effects of praziquantel and albendazole on Coenurus cerabralis were investigated. For this purpose, 5 dogs aged 2.5-3 months and 21 akkaraman lambs aged 3-4 months were used. Three dogs were infected with Coenurus cerebralis protoscoleces, then the eggs collected from their feces were given to the lambs. Approximately 5500 eggs were given to each lamb.
