Illustrated Flora of Illinois
This is the fourth volume in The Illustrated Flora of Illinois devoted to dicotyledons, or dicot plants. Dicots are the greatest group of flowering plants, exceeding the monocotyledons, or monocots. Dicots produce a pair of seed leaves during germination while monocots produce only a single seed leaf.
This volume contains four orders and ten families of dicots. The orders included in this volume are Malvales, Urticales, Rhamnales, and Euphorbiales. Within the Malvales are the families Tiliaceae, Sterculiaceae, and Malvaceae. The families Ulmaceae, Moraceae, and Urticaceae comprise the Urticales. Rhamnaceae and Elaeagnaceae make up the Rhamnales. The Euphorbiales include only the …

Legume Distribution And Nodulation In Arapaho Prairie, Arthur County, Nebraska, L. A. Kapustka, J. D. Dubois
School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications
Vegetational sampling of the legumes of Arapaho Prairie, located in the southwest portion of the Sand Hills of Nebraska, was conducted in June 1980. Lathyrus polymorphus, Petalostemon purpureum, Psoralea digitata and Amorpha canescens were the leading dominants. The overall density of legumes was 0.309 plants m-2.
Of eight examined, only Petalostemon villosum and Glycyrrhiza lepidota supported large numbers of nodules. The others including the dominant legumes were unnodulated or had only a few, usually degenerate nodules.
It appears that the legumes are of minor importance in the overall N economy of Arapaho Prairie. Nevertheless since many …
Flora And Vegetation Of Five Natural Wetlands In The Kanawha And Ohio River Floodplains, Southwestern West Virginia, Bernadine Phillips Brumfield
Flora And Vegetation Of Five Natural Wetlands In The Kanawha And Ohio River Floodplains, Southwestern West Virginia, Bernadine Phillips Brumfield
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Flora and vegetation were studied in five natural wetlands along the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers, southwestern West Virginia. Vegetation was analysed using a stratified-random approach with nested quadrats along line transects. The abundance of dead trees suggests an overall increase in water level with time. One to three canopy species comprise 75 percent of the Basal Area at all five sites. Acer rubrum and Quercus palustris are the dominant species at the Winfield East, Winfield West and Pt. Pleasant sites. Salix nigra is the dominant species at McCausland Run site and Acer saccharinum is dominant at the Guyan Creek Oxbow …

Report No 49 - Geographically Restricted Plants Of Southern Western Australia, Barbara L. Rye
Report No 49 - Geographically Restricted Plants Of Southern Western Australia, Barbara L. Rye
Fisheries Research Reports
This publication lists 527 angiosperm species native to southern western Australia whose known geographical ranges are less than 100 kilometres long. A further 128 angiosperms are listed with geographical ranges between 100 and 160 kilometres. No fern or gymnosperm species in the region are known to be geographically restricted.
Apart from the presently unnamed species, a large majority of the rare plants of southern Western Australia are believed to be listed, including 86 of the species that have been gazetted as rare flora.
Less than 40% of the listed species are known to occur on conservation reserves and less than …

Fisheries Research Reports
On March 12, 1982 36 plants were added to and 4 plants were deleted from the schedule of flora proclaimed by the Minister for Fisheries and Wildlife to be rare, likely to become extinct or otherwise in need of special protection under Section 23F of the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950-1979. Descriptions and drawings of each of the 36 additions to the schedule are provided.
All 36 rare taxa are confined to the South West Botanical Province, most being concentrated in the Albany, Pingelly,
Moora and Wongan Hills wildlife districts. There is an urgent need for further studies on the conservation …

Early Stages Of Prairie Restoration On A 1.5 Hectare Field In Faulkner County, Arkansas, Robert D. Wright, Donald E. Culwell
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
A plot of land on the University of Central Arkansas campus has been permanently designated as a Nature Reserve which is to remain much as it is with woods and open, grassy fields for class use and other educational purposes. The 1.5 hectare open field is a particularly good site for prairie restoration, since the area has not been under cultivation in recent time. Andropogon gerardi, A. scoparius, Sorghastrum avenaceum, Panicum virgatum, Liatris pycnostachya, Eryngium yuccifolium, Rudbeckia hirta, and Helianthus sp. are examples of plants naturally occurring here with some frequency. A number of other plants typical of prairie remnants …

Woody Vegetation At Burgner Acres, East-Central Illinois: Composition And Changes Since 1964, Larry Philip Lehnen Jr.
Masters Theses
A comparative study was undertaken of the changes in woody vegetation of Burgner Acres during the past 18 years. This ten acre woodlot, located in east-central Illinois was surveyed using a method identical to that of a previous study. A literature review describing the composition of three general types of forests in the Grand Prairie Division of Illinois is included.
Twenty-five arborescent species are present on the study site with white ash (Fraxinus americana L.) maintaining its position as first in importance value (I.V. = relative frequency + relative density + relative dominance). Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis L.) has …
