Field Evaluation Of Herbicides On Rice 2003, Ronald E. Talbert, Brian V. Ottis, Mayank S. Malik, Andrew T. Ellis
Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Series
Herbicide evaluation studies on rice were conducted in 2003 at the Rice Research and Extension Center near Stuttgart, Ark., in an effort to evaluate new herbicides, herbicide mixtures, and their application timings for weed control efficacy and crop tolerance. Results of these studies, in part, provide useful information to producers, fellow researchers, and the crop protection industry for the potential use of new herbicide programs for successful rice production in Arkansas.

Arkansas Cotton Variety Test 2003, Fred M. Bourland, S. B. Jackson, J. M. Hornbeck, F. E. Groves
Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Series
The primary aim of the Arkansas Cotton Variety Test is to provide unbiased data regarding the agronomic performance of cotton varieties and advanced breeding lines in the major cotton-growing areas of Arkansas. This information helps seed dealers establish marketing strategies and assists producers in choosing varieties to plant. In this way, the annual test facilitates the inclusion of new, improved genetic material in Arkansas cotton production.

Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Series
Rapid technological changes in crop management and production require that the research efforts also be presented in an expeditious manner. The contributions of soil fertility and fertilizers are major production factors in all Arkansas crops. The studies contained within will allow producers to compare their practices with the university's research efforts. Additionally, soil test data and fertilizer sales are presented to allow comparisons among years, crops, and other areas within Arkansas.

Establishing Effects Of Application Of Swine Manure On Crop Leaf Damage To Growing Crops, Charles Shapiro, University Of Nebraska-Lincoln
Establishing Effects Of Application Of Swine Manure On Crop Leaf Damage To Growing Crops, Charles Shapiro, University Of Nebraska-Lincoln
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Swine manure from a below barn storage facility was applied to growing corn and soybeans to determine phytotoxic effects. The manure had an electrical conductivity of around 20 mmhos/cm and was diluted for treatment at full, half, quarter and none. The manure mixtures were applied at a rate of 0.5 in/acre using a procedure that wet the foliage three times in a 15-minute time span. Manure mixtures were applied at V7 and V14 for corn and V3 and R1 for soybeans. Phytotoxic effects were shown at the high rate for both crops, but soybeans were killed at the early application …

Population Genetic Structure In Nolina Brittoniana (Agavaceae), A Plant Endemic To The Central Ridges Of Florida, Rebecca W. Dolan, Rebecca Yahr, Eric S. Menges
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
Nolina brittoniana is endemic to the central ridges of peninsular Florida. Its scrub and sandhill habitats have suffered extensive anthropogenic modification. Analysis of isozymes from populations throughout its range revealed less genetic variation than generally reported for endemic plants. Populations were well differentiated, with significant clines in allele frequency along the north-south axis of distribution. Pair-wise F-statistics calculated at four levels of population geographic substructure revealed that current and inferred historical habitat patches had similar genetic structure. We found no evidence of recent bottlenecks or changes in genetic structure due to habitat loss and fragmentation, consistent with populations having always …

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is a versatile crop due to its multitude of uses as a high protein meal and vegetable oil. Soybean seed traits such as seed protein and oil concentration and seed size are important quantitative traits. The objective of this study was to identify representative protein, oil, and seed size quantitative trait loci (QTL) in soybean. A recombinant inbred line (RIL) population consisting of 131 F6-derived lines was created from two prominent ancestors of North American soy-beans (‘Essex’ and ‘Williams’) and the RILs were grown in six environments. One hundred simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers …

Effect Of Light Duration On Pulvinar Motor Organ Movements In Phaseolus Vulgaris, Thomas William Rinehart
Effect Of Light Duration On Pulvinar Motor Organ Movements In Phaseolus Vulgaris, Thomas William Rinehart
Presidential Scholars Theses (1990 – 2006)
With a well established model in place, the main objective of this study will be to determine if the pulvinar motor organs have a threshold radiation level to elicit paraheliotropic movements. Plants will be illuminated with full spectrum light at varying intensities and periods. Observation will take place minute-by-minute in an effort to denote certain lighting conditions which might trigger paraheliotropism.
Rare Plants And Nickel Accumulators From Turkish Serpentine Soils, With Special Reference To Centaurea Species, Roger D. Reeves, Nezaket Adigüzel
Rare Plants And Nickel Accumulators From Turkish Serpentine Soils, With Special Reference To Centaurea Species, Roger D. Reeves, Nezaket Adigüzel
Turkish Journal of Botany
Recent exploration and collecting from areas of serpentine soils in western and central regions of Turkey have shown that there is still much to be discovered. This work has led to the identification of new species, the re-collection of very rare species, the recording of extensions to the known ranges of several species, and the discovery of new instances of Ni hyperaccumulation, in which plant species can accumulate this element to concentrations exceeding 0.1% of the dry weight of the plant. In Turkey, there has already been special interest in Ni accumulation by species of Aethionema R.Br., Alyssum L., Bornmuellera …

Turkish Journal of Botany
As a result of taxonomic investigations carried out in the Mut (Mersin) district, 9 species belonging to 2 families (Coprinaceae and Bolbitiaceae) are recorded for the first time for the macrofungi flora of Turkey. These species are Psathyrella badiophylla(Romagn.) Park.-Rhodes, P. bifrons (Berk.) Smith, P. cernua (Vahl: Fr.) G.Hirsch, P. murcida (Fr.) Morphological And Anatomical Investigations On The Saponaria Kotschyi Boiss. (Caryophyllaceae), Ebru Ataşlar
Turkish Journal of Botany
The morphological, anatomical and micromorphological features of Saponaria kotschyi Boiss. have been studied on plants collected from Osmangazi University-Meşelik Campus, Eskişehir. S. kotschyi is an endemic species and a new record from Eskişehir. In general, the results obtained from morphological studies were consistent with the description given in the Flora of Turkey, except for the calyx, as the calyx of S. kotschyi flowers not only had glandular hairs but also eglandular hairs. The anatomical studies on cross-sections of the root, stem, leaves and surface sections of leaves were presented and compared with previous findings. Furthermore, the micromorphological properties of the …
