Air Admission Feature And Discharge Coefficient Of Fixed Conical Valve, Chengbiao Tong, Zhixiong Zhou, Qiuxia Yan

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The complicated flow pattern is existent in fixed conical valve. When the high speed jet flowing near the diversion cone injects the sudden enlargement area, the severe vortex and evident negative pressure are generated. To reduce or eliminate the negative pressure area, the admission pipe should be installed. For clarifying the air admission and flow rule beyond air admission, a calculation mathematical model is built, the basic law of negative pressure generation and air admission is obtained; CFD is adopted to certify that the admission pipe is efficient to restrain the negative pressure; under air admission condition, the two-phase …

Abnormal Behavior Detection Via Super-Pixels Time Context Feature, Chen Ying, Dandan He

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In order to accurately locate the abnormal behavior, an anomaly detection method based on time context features of super-pixels is proposed. For feature representation, the video frames are firstly segmented into super-pixels. The super-pixels of foreground are then selected according to their pixel ratios of foreground. Super-pixels matching adjacent frames are selected based on the gray-level histogram and the information of location to enhance the temporal context of super-pixel features. The statical value of multilayer histogram of optical flow of matched super-pixels are taken as the feature for detection. In the phase of detection, the sparse combination learning algorithm …

An Anti-Occlusion Adaptive Particle Filtering Algorithm, Li Ju, Mingwei Cao, Yu Ye, Xia Yu, Lifan Zhou Jan 2019

An Anti-Occlusion Adaptive Particle Filtering Algorithm, Li Ju, Mingwei Cao, Yu Ye, Xia Yu, Lifan Zhou

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Considering the influence of local occlusion on particle filter tracking algorithm, an anti occlusion adaptive particle filtering algorithm is proposed. It adopts a rectangle as the tracking window, and uses the K mean clustering algorithm to complete particle clustering in resampling, and then obtains the particle subgroup. It estimates the final state according to particles subgroups, and modifies the tracking window. When the area changes more than 5%, the tracking window maintains the same as the one in last frame. Otherwise, the tracking window will change according to the size of moving object, which is a self-adaptation process. At …

Faculty Publications, Meteorology and Climate Science

The Rapid Deployments to Wildfires Experiment (RaDFIRE) was a meteorological field campaign aimed at observing fire–atmosphere interactions during active wildfires. Using a rapidly deployable scanning Doppler lidar, airborne Doppler radar, and a suite of other instruments, the field campaign sampled 21 wildfires from 2013 to 2016 in the western United States. Observations include rotating convective plumes, plume interactions with stable layers and multilayered smoke detrainment, convective plume entrainment processes, smoke-induced density currents, and aircraft in situ observations of developing pyrocumulus. Collectively, these RaDFIRE observations highlight the range of meteorological phenomena associated with wildfires, especially plume dynamics, and will provide a …

3-Dimensional Path Planning For Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Yiheng Wang, Yahong Rosa Zheng Jan 2019

3-Dimensional Path Planning For Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Yiheng Wang, Yahong Rosa Zheng

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper proposes a new algorithm for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) path planning in 3D space to visit multiple targets using Dubins curves. For a given target-sequence, the 3D path planning is usually solved by two steps: Step 1 projects 3D targets to the X-Y plane and designs a 2D path on this plane; Step 2 maps the 2D path into 3D via interpolation. The proposed new algorithm defines a local coordinate system (LCS) for each pair of targets and designs the 2D Dubins curve in the LCS, then uses the Euler's rotation transformation to convert the 2D dubins curve …

Damage Precursor Identification In Composite Laminates Using Data Driven Approach, Muthu Ram Prabhu Elenchezhian, Vamsee Vadlamudi, Rassel Raihan, Kenneth Reifsnider

Institute of Predictive Performance Methodologies (IPPM-UTARI)-Archive

Composite materials are rapidly being used in commercial aviation and other day to day applications. The individual damage modes in composites are very well understood but it is the interaction of these local damage modes that leads to global failure. In the current research we intend to identify the damage precursors and the initiation of failure events in off axis unidirectional composite laminates loaded in quasi static uniaxial tension by measuring the dielectric response of the material by an in-situ technique using Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BbDS). Using the variation of permittivity with strain, we are able to classify the stages …

Context Oriented Software Middleware, Basel Magableh

Articles

This article proposes a new paradigm for building an adaptive middleware that supports software systems with self-adaptability and dependability. In this article, we wish to explore how far we can support the engineering of self- adaptive applications using a generic and platform-independent middleware architecture provided by non-specialised programming languages such as Context-Oriented Programming (COP), and Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP), and not limited to a specific platform or framework. This gives the software developers the flexibility to construct a self-adaptive application using a generic and reusable middleware components that employ popular design patterns, instead of forcing the software developers to use a …

Deep Q Learning For Self Adaptive Distributed Microservices Architecture (In Press), Basel Magableh Jan 2019

Deep Q Learning For Self Adaptive Distributed Microservices Architecture (In Press), Basel Magableh

Articles

One desired aspect of a self-adapting microservices architecture is the ability to continuously monitor the operational environment, detect and observe anomalous behavior, and provide a reasonable policy for self-scaling, self-healing, and self-tuning the computational resources in order to dynamically respond to a sudden change in its operational environment. The behaviour of a microservices architecture is continuously changing overtime, which makes it a challenging task to use a statistical model to identify both the normal and abnormal behaviour of the services running. The performance of the microservices cluster could fluctuate around the demand to accommodate scalability, orchestration and load balancing demands. …

Scenario Computing For Analysis Of Deep Uncertainty Systems, Liu Yi, Gangqiao Wang, Zhipeng Wu, Zhenqiang Fan, Yongqiang Chen

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: A method of scenario computing is developed for modeling systems with deep uncertainty. The method consists three complementary parts: hybrid modelling, diverse computing, and interactive validation. Hybrid modelling is to dynamically develop models with merging historical knowledges and observed information. Diversity computation is to simulate multiple plausible scenarios about system future. Interactive validation helps scenario computing process being on the right way instead of deviating. Two cases are provided in this paper applying scenario computing, one is earthquake and the other is driving and transportation. The results show good performance of scenario computing method in modeling uncertainty systems.

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: A hybrid decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes based on the soft-decision iterative decoding method and the erasure decoding method is proposed. If a decoding error is detected when the maximum iteration number of the soft-decision iterative decoding is reached, a decision is made on each bit whether it is zero or one or an erasure according to the cumulative reliability of the bit in the iterative process. Then the decision result is decoded with erasure decoding. Simulation results on random LDPC codes with moderate length indicate that the proposed hybrid decoding algorithm outperforms the traditional soft-decision iterative …
