Roughness As A Factor In Culvert Hydraulics, Eugene M. West Dec 1954

Roughness As A Factor In Culvert Hydraulics, Eugene M. West

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

In conjunction with the oral discussion of Roughness as a Factor in Culvert Hydraulics, which has been scheduled for the coming meeting of the Research Committee, I have assembled a few notes and diagrams with which you may wish to become familiar. It is intended that this material serve as a guide in a simplified approach to some of the basic considerations in the analysis of culverts, and not to be all inclusive.

An Investigation Of Bituminous Coatings And Pavements On Corrugated Metal Culverts, Eugene M. West Nov 1954

An Investigation Of Bituminous Coatings And Pavements On Corrugated Metal Culverts, Eugene M. West

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The object of this inspection was to determine the efficacy of bituminous coatings and paved inverts on corrugated metal pipe and culverts installed on Rural Secondary Projects during the past few years. The study originated after earlier investigations had led to recommendations concerning the resistance of various types of pipe and culvert materials in the presence of acid-bearing waters.

Blown Mulch For Roadside Erosion Control, Jason C. Taylor Oct 1954

Blown Mulch For Roadside Erosion Control, Jason C. Taylor

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

In May 1954, the Division of Construction brought to the attention of the Research Division the fact that an effort was being made (for the first time in Kentucky) to revise the conventional manner of applying straw mulch to a seeded right-of-way. This innovation was to be achieved with the use of a recently-invented machine known as the "Finn Mulch Spreader", which is capable of mixing a straw mulch with some adhesive substance and then blowing the mixture onto the seeded area. The intent was to achieve a reasonably homogeneous mat-like structure composed of pieces of straw attached to each …

Flexural Properties Of Corrugated Metal Roofing, Howard L. Wakeland Aug 1954

Flexural Properties Of Corrugated Metal Roofing, Howard L. Wakeland

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

Introduction Roofing materials that combine shelter, fire safety, durability, and strength have largely replaced such historic types of roofing covering as straw, leaves, tile, bark and various wooden coverings. Thus, we have such modern roof coverings as asphalt composition, cement-asbestos, and metal. Of these, metal roofing is used more than any other on farm service buildings. Approximately 40 per cent of present day farm service buildings in the United States are roofed with metal. This proportion continues to increase as more and more metal roofing materials are made available for rural construction. The wide use of metal roofing is due …

Us Army Transportation Intelligence Agency, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

Historical Data Cards were used to record the organizational history of units within the Army. This card was provided to Robert Bolin by the US Army Institute of Heraldry in 1985.

TIA was a special-purpose military unit established to perform the intelligence functions of the Transportation Corps. TIA produced intelligence on foreign military transportation equipment and ground transportation facilities of strategic interest to the US armed forces.

TIA was discontinued in 1962 when most of the Army technical services were reorganized out of existence. Its functions, personnel, records, and equipment were divided among the newly created US Army Foreign Scientific …

Special Text, St 55-06-1, Transportation Intelligence, June 1954, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

This is a textbook used at the Army Transportation School. In the 1950s, military schools related to one of the Army Technical Services were run by that service. Since the format and content of Army field manuals were often very similar to those of special texts, the same staffs often prepared both. At the time this special text was written no field manual on transportation intelligence has been issued.

The modern US Army vision of the technical intelligence developed during World War II. Shortly before World War II, Army Technical Services had been instructed to set up intelligence sections in …

Guide To The Preparation Of Military Reports Of A Technical Nature, The Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Robert L. Bolin Depositor

United States Army: Publications

This is a brief text prepared for instructional purposes at the US Army Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, VA.

The manuscript covering the preparation of a technical report has been prepared for two reasons: first, to serve as a basic text for instructing student officers in the techniques of report writing and second, to serve as a means of reference. Student officers cannot be expected to retain in their minds all the minute details of report writing to which they are exposed during their period of school training. Considerable time may elapse after graduation and before they are called on …

Evaluation Of Sprinkler Irrigation Systems In Northern Utah, Jay M. Bagley, Wayne D. Criddle Jan 1954

Evaluation Of Sprinkler Irrigation Systems In Northern Utah, Jay M. Bagley, Wayne D. Criddle

Reports

Summary and Conclusions: Sprinkler irrigation will continue to expand in Utah as well as in other irrigated areas of the world. This method of irrigation is suitable to all farm crops grown in the state and to most soils. It is particularly adapted to steep foothill areas where the water supply can be obtained at higher elevation and pumping is not necessary to develop pressure for the sprinkler systems. Also, much of the irrigated land of the state, particularly along the Wasatch front, is owned and operated by "part-time" farmers. Having the water under complete control and the irrigation schedule …
