Design Of Automotive Structural Components Using High Strength Sheet Steels Structural Behavior Of Members Consisting Of Flat And Curved Elements, M. Brad Parks, Wei-Wen Yu Jun 1987

Design Of Automotive Structural Components Using High Strength Sheet Steels Structural Behavior Of Members Consisting Of Flat And Curved Elements, M. Brad Parks, Wei-Wen Yu

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

Local buckling of stiffened and unstiffened curved elements has been investigated both experimentally and analytically. Stiffened curved elements are supported along both longitudinal edges while unstiffened curved elements are supported along one longitudinal edge with the other longitudinal edge free. A series of stub column, beam, and shear tests have been performed for sections containing curved elements. The tested specimens were formed from sheet steels with yield strengths ranging from 27 to 88 ksi. The radius-to-thickness, R/t, values of the curved elements varied from 12 to 438 whereas the arc length-to-thickness, b/t, ratios ranged from 23 to 218. As a …

Agenda: Water As A Public Resource: Emerging Rights And Obligations, University Of Colorado Boulder. Natural Resources Law Center

Water as a Public Resource: Emerging Rights and Obligations (Summer Conference, June 1-3)

Conference organizers and/or faculty included University of Colorado School of Law professors Lawrence J. MacDonnell, David H. Getches, and Charles F. Wilkinson.

This conference focused on the legal rights associated with a broad range of public uses and interests in water including recreation, fish and wildlife protection, and water quality. Evolving legal areas such as the public trust doctrine, instream flow laws, federal reserved rights, and wetlands protection were discussed.

Water as a Public Resource: Emerging Rights and Obligations considered the extension of the public trust doctrine to areas previously not covered by this concept, as well as developments in …

Procedures For Calculating Natural Ventilation Airflow Rates In Buildings. 03-87, Florida Solar Energy Center, Subrato Chandra Jun 1987

Procedures For Calculating Natural Ventilation Airflow Rates In Buildings. 03-87, Florida Solar Energy Center, Subrato Chandra

FSEC Energy Research Center®

This is the final report of ASHRAE research project 448-RP "Building Pressure Distribution for Natural Ventilation" initiated in October 1985. The objective of the research was to review the worldwide data on building pressure coefficient and to assimilate the data for use in hourly calculation of natural ventilation airflow rates in buildings. This report is organized in two parts. Part 1 is written for the user who wants to use the information. Part 2 provides the background and research data analysis which was conducted to come up with the Part 1 information.

Performance Evaluation Of Breakaway-Cable-Terminal End Treatments, Jerry G. Pigman, Kenneth R. Agent Jun 1987

Performance Evaluation Of Breakaway-Cable-Terminal End Treatments, Jerry G. Pigman, Kenneth R. Agent

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

This report included an analysis of 110 accidents involving breakaway-cableterminal (BCT) end treatments and 36 accidents involving median-breakaway-cableterminal (MBCT) end treatments as used in Kentucky. The primary data base consisted of Kentucky accident records for the years 1980-87; with a few accidents that were identified before 1980. An attempt was made to document each accident with a police report, photographs, and a maintenance repair form.

Results revealed that the breakaway-cable-terminal end treatment performed properly in 73 percent of the accidents when all three configurations of end treatments were combined (simple curve, parabolic flare, and straight). Proper performance was defined as …

Allocation Of Resurfacing Monies To Highway Districts In Kentucky, Rolands L. Rizenbergs, Robert C. Deen Jun 1987

Allocation Of Resurfacing Monies To Highway Districts In Kentucky, Rolands L. Rizenbergs, Robert C. Deen

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Allocation of resurfacing and rehabilitation monies began in 1967 with the separate funding of a resurfacing program. Pavement projects for resurfacing and rehabilitation were selected more often than not on the basis of politics and arbitrary (i.e., without the benefit of analysis of good inventory and condition data) judgments of decision makers. With the gradual introduction of more adequate roadway inventory and annual condition data, the formula for the allocation of funds has been gradually revised, updated, and improved so there is now a more logical and equitable distribution of funds.

With the formation of a pavement management staff in …

User's Guide For Pavement Condition Surveys, Gary W. Sharpe, Herbert F. Southgate, Robert C. Deen Jun 1987

User's Guide For Pavement Condition Surveys, Gary W. Sharpe, Herbert F. Southgate, Robert C. Deen

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The pavement condition survey is a visual inspection of the travelway of a street/road system. The survey provides measures to assess the magnitudes of various types of pavement distress. The rater is not to make evaluations on the basis of known or suspected subsurface conditions. It is necessary the rater only report in an objective manner what is seen. The types of distress include the following:

For Asphaltic Concrete Pavements: Alligator Cracking, Block/Transverse Cracking, Reflective Cracking, Rutting, Raveling, Bleeding, Surface Irregularities (shoving, corrugations, potholes), and Patching/Utility Cuts.

For Portland Cement Concrete Pavements: Blowups, Spalling and Popouts, Map Cracking, Longitudinal Cracking, …

Prodb: An Experimental Generalized Database System User's Manual, Guillermo R. Simari Jun 1987

Prodb: An Experimental Generalized Database System User's Manual, Guillermo R. Simari

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

The following notes document in a succinct manner the use of the system PRODB. The system is still evolving and several new features are in the process of being added. PRODB is a prototype system that is being used as an exploration vehicle of the possible extensions to the relational model through logic programming. The system consists of a relational database system having a relational algebra type language as a query language. It is written in Prolog and it extends the capabilities of Prolog predicates with the relational algebra operators for handling the database structure. The database system currently provides …

Power Division By Element Design In A Circularly Polarized, Series-Fed Array, James L. Drewniak, P. E. Mayes Jun 1987

Power Division By Element Design In A Circularly Polarized, Series-Fed Array, James L. Drewniak, P. E. Mayes

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The feasibility of designing a wideband circular polarized (CP) array of series-fed elements using the element geometry to control the array excitation has been demonstrated. The simple array of wideband, low-profile CP elements requires no phase-shifters and only sufficient feed lines for the interconnection of the elements in a series-fed array. A complicated network is not required to obtain the excitation coefficients for a specified design. Rather, the excitation coefficients can be realized by utilizing the geometric parameters of the individual elements.
