Student Works (2000-2009)
"How Computer Execute Instruction" is a topic in the syllabus of Computer Application subject for trainee teacher in Darul Ehsan Islamic College. Previously this subject was taught using only the whiteboard and sometimes diagrams are used. But it is difficult to employ this method as this is an abstract topic. Therefore computer aided learning courseware was designed to aid students in studying this topic. The development process went through several stages such as analysis, design, development and evaluation. This paper will therefore focus on the formative evaluation phase of the development of the courseware. The outcome of the formative evaluation …
Application Of Computer-Based Technology To The Teaching Of Writing In Spanish As A Foreign Language: A Case Study, Nuria Gago
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Computers are becoming more and more important in today's world. They are part of every sector of our society, including education. Most of the studies done so far on computer integration with educational purposes focus on the classification, and incorporation, from a theoretical point of view, of Computer Mediated Communication in the class. Unfortunately, very little empirical research has been done concerning the students' perspectives and reactions when introduced to the use of multimedia technology in the classroom. The present project was started in an effort to analyze and observer the reactions of a group of learners when exposed, in …

An Analysis Of Student Attitudes Toward Old Dominion University's Teletechnet: A Comparison Of Traditional And Non-Traditional Sites, Michael G. Bisciglia
Sociology & Criminal Justice Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to investigate factors that shape a student's attitudes toward Old Dominion University's TELETECHNET system. This research utilizes a sample of 238 students enrolled in the TELETECHNET system. An analysis of student responses, based on location, was conducted, to see if a significant difference in the mean attitudes toward TELETECHNET exist between on-site and distance students. Analysis revealed a difference between studio and non-studio students on a variety of factors. This included the respondent's connection to other students, their attitude toward distance education, their willingness to take another TELETECHNET class and their attitude toward the …

The development of the project included research of similar Web sites, literature regarding best teaching practices and methods, Gardner's multiple intelligences, specifically bodily/kinesthetic intelligence, and a teacher questionnaire focusing on the need for the project. Through the research and questionnaire it was determined that a dearth of Web-based resources are available to …
Promoting Phonological Awareness In Young Children Through At-Home Activities: A Video Curriculum, Kathleen A. Kwak
Promoting Phonological Awareness In Young Children Through At-Home Activities: A Video Curriculum, Kathleen A. Kwak
All Graduate Projects
Research relating phonological awareness, beginning reading acquisition, and parental involvement in children's literacy development was read, evaluated, and summarized. A positive relationship between phonological awareness and learning to read was indicated from this review, and a correlation between parental literacy activities and children's language and reading acquisition was found. Studies suggesting the existence of a developmental sequence of phonological skills were examined. The literature review provided a rationale and design for phonological awareness instruction. A research supported curriculum containing a teacher's manual, take-home interactive video activities and activity sheets, and assessments was created.

The Technology Coordinators' Web Site Project, Jason Allen Vetter
The Technology Coordinators' Web Site Project, Jason Allen Vetter
Graduate Research Papers
Technology in the schools has been a major push in Iowa schools for the past ten years. Our state legislature has given each school district within the state money to purchase technology for their district (R. Herdliska, personal communication, February, 1999). With this money, districts have been forced to look for help in purchasing this computing equipment. Sometimes they look outside for help and hire people who have been in the business world to meet this need. Sometimes they are forced to look within their building to teachers and staff members who have a "niche" with technology to meet this …
Examining How Presentation Technology Affects Communication Of Student Ideas, Barbara Besch
Examining How Presentation Technology Affects Communication Of Student Ideas, Barbara Besch
Graduate Research Papers
This research examines the impact of presentation technology and the effect it has on the way students communicate their ideas. Students have traditionally stood at the front of the room and talked about their research and findings. Technology offers new means in presenting student research. The class that will be participating in this study will have access to presentation software and the tools to use it effectively to create dynamic presentations. Before the process begins, students will be asked to evaluate their attitudes and feelings on presenting the results of research. They will then evaluate the overall quality of their …

The Development Of A Noncommercial Community Television Delivery System: A Model For Small Rural Community Colleges, Rudolf H. Timmerman
The Development Of A Noncommercial Community Television Delivery System: A Model For Small Rural Community Colleges, Rudolf H. Timmerman
Theses and Dissertations
Information can empower as well as unite people. A primary source of information was found to be the media, specifically television. The literature indicated that in rural areas the information provided by the media was not germane to the residents and, considering the rather broad mission of community colleges, the investigator proposed the development of a noncommercial television delivery system using the assets of the college. It was further hypothesized that this development could serve as a model for other rural colleges. While the literature supported the proposition that local television access had a positive effect on the community, little …
The Lifelong Learner And Technology, Dia L. Davis
The Lifelong Learner And Technology, Dia L. Davis
Graduate Research Papers
The teaching strategies of the educator alter to suit the needs of the students and technology. The content integration process takes time. It has been stated that teachers' first technology projects generate excitement, but often little content learning. Often it takes a few years until teachers can use technology effectively in core subject areas.
Teachers learn to use computer technologies and learn how to bring content learning to the forefront with, in some cases, impressive results on the part of the students. Teachers eventually learn to view the learning process in concert with their new technologies and come to understand …

Student Satisfaction Of Educational Media Reference Guide For Courses 240:020 And 240:031 At University Of Northern Iowa, Velma M. Sallis
Graduate Research Papers
University of Northern Iowa students desiring to become educators are required to enroll in an introductory basic technology course. Integrating technology has become an important issue in American schools. Ritchie and Baylor (1997) argue teacher candidates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in educational technologies before acquiring their teaching credentials. How to help future educators grasp technology-related competencies and the use of technology when teaching is being addressed by many institutions of higher learning within their teacher education programs. Ritchie and Baylor suggest that in addition to providing demonstrations and hands-on experience, reference aids which detail the …
An Evaluation Of The Accelerated Reader Program In Grades 3–5 On Reading Vocabulary, Comprehension, And Attitude In An Urban Southeastern School District In Virginia, Carol Ann Howard
Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education
The purpose of this study was to study recreational reading in third, fourth, and fifth grade urban students in a school district in Southeastern Virginia. The widely-used Accelerated Reader (AR) was the tool examined in the promotion of recreational reading. Recreational reading studies have been done on a broad economic spectrum (Advantage Learning Systems, 1997; Paul, 1996; Paul, VanderZee, Rue & Swanson, 1996). A gap in knowledge exists as to whether recreational reading programs, using AR, are effective with the urban elementary students. The major research questions determined if recreational reading, using Accelerated Reader, influenced reading vocabulary, comprehension, and attitude …

Through its "Global Reach", the Air Force operates globally and in environments that are potentially dynamic, competitive, and lethal. "Information Dominance" has assumed a central role in such environments. In order to achieve Information Dominance, the Air Force must have trained and skilled personnel able to perform highly intensive activities using information technologies. Therefore, it is crucial that information technology training be able to deliver the requisite skills personnel need to attain and sustain performance on these systems. The importance of training gives rise to the need to determine how information technology training can be continually improved to maximize return …
