Retention Effects Of An Experiential Pedagogical Approach, Kelsea E. Adams May 2016

Retention Effects Of An Experiential Pedagogical Approach, Kelsea E. Adams

Senior Honors Projects

The quality and nature of delivery of education, especially at the K12 level is a major focus of the education reform movement. As an aspiring teacher, I am interested in developing a personal understanding of the efficacy of different modes of delivery. A large body of studies has examined the differences between experiential learning versus traditional classroom learning as well as effects on student retention. Traditional classroom learning involves literary texts, PowerPoint presentations and teacher-centered learning. In contrast, experiential learning is a hands-on, real world experience that provides students with an environment to expand their critical thinking skills and apply …

From Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder To Substance Use Disorder: Perspectives From Recovering Addicts, Elena Potovsky Apr 2016

From Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder To Substance Use Disorder: Perspectives From Recovering Addicts, Elena Potovsky

Scholarly and Creative Works Conference (2015 - 2021)

People who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are often at high risk of acquiring Substance Use Disorder (SUD). When a diagnosis is determined for a school age child, the special education team mainly focuses on the most obvious problems that occur with ADHD: executive function issues, reading and writing impairments, and disruptive behavior. They may not realize how common it is for those identified with ADHD to also acquire SUD.

The literature revealed that there may be a shared genetic basis between ADHD and SUD, that there is commonly an early onset of SUD for those who have ADHD, …

Effect Of Triclosan Concentration On Growth Rate Of Lemna Minor, Lia Boese Apr 2016

Effect Of Triclosan Concentration On Growth Rate Of Lemna Minor, Lia Boese

Kansas Undergraduate Research Day

The effect of triclosan exposure on growth of Lemna minor (common duckweed) was investigated over a 14 day treatment period with percent population change as the measured result. Triclosan is a common antibacterial compound in personal care products that frequently becomes an aquatic pollutant. Triclosan disrupts the bacterial enyol-acyl carrier protein reductase enzyme (ENR), a critical enzyme in fatty acid synthesis. Survival of all organisms depends on fatty acids to form membranes. As bacteria, some protozoa and plants share the ENR enzyme, it was hypothesized that triclosan exposure would affect the growth rate of the native aquatic plant Lemna minor …

Vater Als Beurteiler. Parallelen Zwischen Das Urteil Und Brief An Den Vater, Margaret Marusek Apr 2016

Vater Als Beurteiler. Parallelen Zwischen Das Urteil Und Brief An Den Vater, Margaret Marusek

Wewelsburg, Heinrich Himmler Und Der Chiemseekessel, Kristen Anderson

Workshops Toolkit: Tailoring Learning To Schedules And Needs, Zachary W. Elder Apr 2016

Workshops Toolkit: Tailoring Learning To Schedules And Needs, Zachary W. Elder

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

George Washington University Libraries were tasked with transforming support for graduate students while taking into account increasing numbers of online students, off-campus programs, and students working full-time. In addition, due to librarian turnover and other factors, we needed to accomplish our goal with a reduced workforce and without reducing services and instruction to our undergraduate population. Our solution focuses our graduate instruction on in-person workshops and digital objects (research guides and “How-Do-I?” videos), along with a “toolkit” with scripts, handouts, presentations, and outlines so that, while one librarian may be the expert (e.g. citation management), any librarian can have the …
