The Effects Of Circuit Training, Weight Lifting, And Interval Training On Muscular Strength And Circulorespiratory Endurence, Gordon Alexander Leslie Edwards
The Effects Of Circuit Training, Weight Lifting, And Interval Training On Muscular Strength And Circulorespiratory Endurence, Gordon Alexander Leslie Edwards
Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs
It was the purpose of this study to investigate the effects on muscular strength and circulorespiratory endurance in healthy college males derived from separate programs of circuit training, weight lifting, and interval training. The null hypotheses were that no significant differences in improvement of muscular strength and circulorespiratory endurance would be observed among college males engaged in separate programs of circuit training, weight lifting, and interval training. Fifty-one college males from developmental physical education classes at The University of New Mexico were randomly assigned to one of the three exercise programs. Thirty-eight subjects completed all of the requirements for the …
The Assessment Of Maximal Working Tolerance At A Constant Partial Pressure Of Oxygen In Hyperbaria, John Charles Cook
The Assessment Of Maximal Working Tolerance At A Constant Partial Pressure Of Oxygen In Hyperbaria, John Charles Cook
Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs
Eight healthy male subjects were administered maximal work tolerance tests on a motor driven treadmill while breathing a constant partial pressure of oxygen at 122 mmHg. Subjects were tested at three atmospheric pressures including 630 mmHg., 1520 mmHg., and 2280 mmHg. during a thirteen week period. Experimental tests were conducted in a compression chamber located in the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The hypotheses were that: 1) maximal oxygen uptake and maximal treadmill run time would be greater at 630 mmHg. than at 1520 mmHg. ambient pressure, 2) maximal oxygen uptake and maximal …
A Comparison Of A Routine Training Program And An Exer-Genie Isometric-Isotonic Conditioning Program With Respect To Their Effects On Cardiovascular Condition And Jumping Ability, Kenneth R. Jacobs

An Examination Of The Immediate And Delayed Effects Of Various Status Positions Associated With The Athlete And Physical Educator On Male And Female Members Of An Audience, Dale Wendal Foster
Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs
The purpose of this investigation was to examine the immediate and delayed effects of manipulating a speaker's extrinsic credibility upon measures of audience: attitude toward the speaker, agreement with the ideas presented and commitment to the speaker's proposals. Two dimensions of the speaker's extrinsic credibility were manipulated by randomly circulating written introductions of a speaker throughout an audience composed of male and female members. One aspect, the occupational role of the speaker, was manipulated in three ways: (1) an athlete, (2) a person without a given occupational role and (3) a physical educator. The second aspect manipulated was the status …

It was also the purpose of this study to determine the relationship between two methods of measuring sportsmanship.
Two intact physical education classes were used in the experiment. Sportsmanship was taught by the regular instructor, and …
The Effect Of Exercise On Basel Metabolic Rate As Related To Changes In Active Tissue Mass, Arnold Garth Fisher
The Effect Of Exercise On Basel Metabolic Rate As Related To Changes In Active Tissue Mass, Arnold Garth Fisher
Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs
Nineteen men between the ages of twenty-four and thirty-seven were trained for eight weeks to determine the effect of improved cardio-respiratory fitness on basal metabolic rate and body composition. The hypothesis was that a change in active tissue mass brought about by exercise would not be accompanied by a change in basal metabolic rate. Two measurements of body composition were made, lean body mass and fat-free weight. Lean body mass was estimated by the potassium-40 technique at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico. Fat-free weight was estimated by hydrostatic weighing. The total lung volume of each subject …
