The complexities of accounting for the effects of changing prices on financial statements could be lessened with the use of simpler accounting methods. Because of existing complexities, even industrialized countries require only their larger business entities to provide inflation-adjusted information. Such information is prepared by making numerous adjustments to the traditional, historical cost-based data. For example, in the United Kingdom, inflation-adjusted income is calculated in two stages: operating profit and profit attributable to shareholders. These calculations are based on the concept of value to the business and require complicated adjustments with respect to cost of goods sold, depreciation, monetary working …

Project INISS is a research project seeking to establish the information processing practices of social workers in Great Britain. This article summarizes its most important findings for U.S. social workers and social administrators. Originally published in 1983, this article offers a snapshot of information practices in human services organizations a decade before the widespread adoption of the internet and just prior to the early beginnings of ubiquitous – nearly universal – use of computers for record keeping and information processing by social workers.

The rural agency on aging did not – could not – engage in effective social planning because it was charged with a full range of responsibilities for sub-state decisionmaking among competing grant applicants. Several aspects of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) planning mission are identified and discussed including “plan preparation”, rational decision-making, sub-state allocations and needs meeting. Widespread acceptance of the legitimacy of AAA planning goals generated three alternative models, which are termed the case management, inter-organizational and community structural approaches. Planning For Aging Services: Implications Of Recent Amendments To The Older Americans Act (With 2019 Postscript), Roger A. Lohmann

The 1978 Amendments to the Older Americans Act called for the establishment of social planning, greater emphasis on the needs of the frail elderly (“those in greatest social and economic need”), the establishment of community “focal points” and “comprehensive and coordinated service delivery systems” in rural and urban communities. The amendments were implemented in the 1980 guidelines to Area Agencies on Aging. Three models of computer-based information processing are discussed: Cybernetic, Management Information Systems and Natural Language Processing. The HSUS came into being because, for several years previously, a great many people throughout the United States were aware of the tremendous need for a strong humane group that would actively endorse and work towards eliminating, on a national scale, some of the more obvious cruelties and injustices imposed on animals in slaughterhouses and by uncontrolled breeding of domestic pets. They also realized the necessity for a humane organization that would act in a missionary role, to encourage and assist in the formation of humane societies in the thousands of towns and areas where none existed.

The advent of federal funding for rural social services during the late 1960s and 1970s brought about changes in the political organization of rural America. A host of new organizational actors, like Area Agencies on Aging and various local aging agencies were created in rural communities across the country, in the wake of Baker v. Carr with its “one man/one vote” principle and funding through programs like the Economic Opportunity Act and the Older Americans Act. ADA Presidents 1860-1979

Doctor Adams, of Boston, became the eighty-sixth president of the Association at the 1949 meeting in San Francisco. The House of Delegates, which consisted of 385 members in 1949, considered proposals to reduce its size, but voted against reduction. Doctor Adams, an orthodontist, was secretary of the Massachusetts Dental Society from 1929 to 1949. After serving in the Navy in World War I, in 1919 he began private practice and joined the staff of Tufts College Dental School, where he later became head of the orthodontics department.
