University Preference : A Conjoint Analysis, Julia P. Turner Jan 1999

University Preference : A Conjoint Analysis, Julia P. Turner

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The business of tertiary education has become more and more competitive in recent years due to reductions in government funding and higher study fees. As the nature of the environment grows more competitive the role of marketing, previously non-existent in most universities, has grown significantly. One of the key pieces of information that would assist the marketing effort of any university is an understanding of what determines university preference. This study examines university preference in Western Australia. A form of conjoint analysis, known as Adaptive Conjoint Analysis (ACA), was used to investigate the relative importance of a number of attributes …

Bulletin 4397 - Stone Fruit From Western Australia - At A Glance, Glynn Ward, Geraldine Pasqual, Eleanor Melvin-Carter

Bulletins 4000 -

Western Australia produces a range of horticultural commodities including fruit, vegetables, flowers, nursery products and wine as part of its fast growing $400 million horticultural industry. Natural advantages such as climate and clean environment, soils and water make Western Australia an ideal place to supply a variety of high quality produce to domestic and international markets.

The stone fruit industry in Western Australia is booming with large production increases predicted. Production from well established plum, peach and nectarine orchards in 1996/97 is estimated at $17 million and exports have doubled in the past five years to $10 million in 1998/99. …

The Use Of Violence In Commercialism To Sell Electronic Entertainment, Music, Movies And Television Sitcoms: The Responsibility Of Marketing And Advertising, Chanda L. Riddick

Electronic Dissertations and Theses

As the entertainment world explodes with the products of new technology and innovation, the difference between reality and fiction often times results in a blur. Computer graphics and story lines all encompass a real-life quality being sold to millions of consumers each day. A billion-dollar industry has resulted from the progress made by technology in the film, music, television, and movie industry. With the steps taken to create such real-life hardship, massacre, and unrest the question is how much have the technology and availability of products containing violent material affected society? Does the responsibility to monitor these products rely on …

Gender Differences In Tourism Destination: Implications For Tourism Marketers, Marie Ryan, Nadine Henley, Geoffery Soutar Dec 1998

Gender Differences In Tourism Destination: Implications For Tourism Marketers, Marie Ryan, Nadine Henley, Geoffery Soutar

Research outputs pre 2011

This paper examines the criteria that males and females use to make tourism destination choices and whether such differences result in different destination preferences. Males and females may apply different criteria to make tourism destination choices. Respondents were asked to rank eight popular WA holiday destinations, using twelve attributes. Comparisons between males and females were conducted using t-tests, perceptual mapping and external preference analysis. Females rated each attribute consistently more important than males and, overall, consistently high. This finding is interpreted with reference to Meyers- Levy’s (1986) selectivity hypothesis and related to other research in the marketing context on information …

Indian Brands : Quo Vadis: The Round Table Discussion, Mithileshwar Jha

IIMB Management Review

Round Table features an exhaustive discussion on Indian Brands ? beginning with the definition of an 'Indian' brand and elaborating upon the origin, the home and the 'soul' of brands, the various aspects of building and managing Indian brands particularly in the face of competition from MNCs; brand extensions and how brands cope with the vagaries of the market. Several interesting issues on methodology and research were raised. In order to present a truly broad spectrum of views on brands and complement the Round Table discussion, Pradeep Kumar spoke to a cross section of marketers in various product and service …

New Paradigms In Marketing, M J Xavier Oct 1998

New Paradigms In Marketing, M J Xavier

IIMB Management Review

Though companies today are getting more customer focused and market driven, marketing departments seem to be relegated to the background. The four Ps, long considered the universal marketing approach, now seem inadequate. The advent of the quality movement, the emergence of services marketing, the developments in strategic marketing and business to business marketing have added new dimensions to marketing. In order to regain their rightful place in organisations, Xavier urges marketers to reorient themselves to the customer, develop a cross functional perspective and a deeper understanding of company competencies.

Market Orientation And Organizational Performance: Is Innovation A Missing Link?, Jin K. Han, Namwoon Kim, Rajendra K. Srivastava Oct 1998

Market Orientation And Organizational Performance: Is Innovation A Missing Link?, Jin K. Han, Namwoon Kim, Rajendra K. Srivastava

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In recent years, a market-oriented corporate culture increasingly has been considered a key element of superior corporate performance. Although organizational innovativeness is believed to be a potential mediator of this market orientation - corporate performance relationship, much of the evidence to date remains anecdotal or speculative. In this context, a systematic framework is presented to test the postulated market orientation-innovation-performance chain. To this end, the direct causality assumption of market orientation on organizational performance is examined with Narver and Slater's (1990) market orientation framework. Moreover, a componentwise approach is taken, and an examination is conducted of how the 3 core …

Outsourcing: An Historical Review For The Projection Of Future Savings, Leslee J. Saleck Sep 1998

Outsourcing: An Historical Review For The Projection Of Future Savings, Leslee J. Saleck

Theses and Dissertations

Because of continuing budget and personnel limitations and the need to fund weapons modernization, the Department of Defense has increased its emphasis on outsourcing support activities. Recent studies have suggested that aggressive outsourcing of support activities by the DoD could produce billions of dollars in savings. The overriding purpose behind this research was to determine to what extent projected savings can be substantiated. To explore the potential for savings, this thesis examines the evolution and impact of outsourcing and privatization in both the private and public sectors. Next it looks at the experiences of private and public sectors to identify …
