In general, businesses are increasingly putting substantial weight on adapting their practices in order to become more environmentally friendly. This article aims to discover the primary factor motivating this shift. Current scholarship, when read together, suggests that there is no one answer, but rather that businesses are motivated by a combination of complying with laws and regulations, being a responsible corporate citizen and gaining an advantage that will result in increased profitability. This article explores why a company may be motivated by each of these three factors to adopt environmentally friendly practices and explains how these factors are interrelated. A …

This paper evaluates the joint impact of exclusive channels and revenue sharing on suppliers and retailers in a hybrid duopoly common retailer and exclusive channel model. The model bridges the gap in the literature on hybrid multichannel supply chains with bilateral complementary products and services with or without revenue sharing. The analysis indicates that, without revenue sharing, the suppliers are reluctant to form exclusive deals with the retailers; thus, no equilibrium results. With revenue sharing from the retailers to the suppliers, it can be an equilibrium strategy for the suppliers and retailers to form exclusive deals. Bargaining solutions are provided …

Mentoring relationships play a critical role in career and organizational success yet little research has explored how mentors and protégés choose each other before beginning a productive mentoring relationship. We integrate the selection and trust literatures to describe a mentor's and a protégé's evaluation of each other before initiating a mentoring relationship. Our conceptual framework distinguishes between a mentor and a protégé in their assessments of the other's potential for organizational citizenship behaviors and perceived organizational support, respectively, and how those assessments are contingent upon perceptions of benevolence. This paper employs the resource-based theory of the firm to explain the influence of human resources on the sustained competitive advantage of an organization. Based on previous conceptual and empirical literature, we posit that the presence of a high potential employee workforce, coupled with adequate human resource management policies, can result in improved profit generating potential. We developed a conceptual framework with several propositions that illustrate the associations between job satisfaction and organizational productivity. We apply this concept in the health care field, suggesting that the satisfaction of physicians’ needs leads to greater organizational productivity and sustained competitive advantage.

The goals of this study are to examine the relationships between loan knowledge, money management skills, debt tolerance attitudes, and student income potential to their willingness to incur educational debt at a mid-western university. The current study showed that freshmen students lacked personal and general loan knowledge and had unrealistic expectations of future income at graduation.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of individualistic cultures (such as the American culture) and collectivistic cultures (such as the Chinese culture) on the interrelationship among service quality, food quality, perceived value, customer satisfaction, and behavioral intentions in the fast-food industry. First, the authors provide empirical evidence of the robust relationships among the constructs across diverse cultures. Second, they investigate how moderator variables such as customer age, gender, and national culture affect customer behavioral intentions. Reducing recidivism would help alleviate both these problems and would also assist in breaking the cycle of career criminality. However, one of the primary causes of recidivism is a lack of employment opportunities for people who have spent time in prison, thereby causing them to return to crime. all organizations face the core challenge of deciding on investments in two very different types of activities: exploration and exploitation. exploration activities are future-oriented, such as developing new capabilities, experimenting with new technologies, and pursuing new customers and markets. exploitation activities, in contrast, focus on the refinement of existing competencies, processes, and products. The Humane Society of the United States receives complaints about sick puppies on a daily basis. Over a five-year period (2007-2011), our puppy mills campaign received 2,479 puppy buyer complaints. The complaint came to The HSUS via our website complaint form (www.humanesociety.org/puppycomplaint), by email, and through our puppy mills tip line. Buyers complained about sick puppies sold by a variety of sources, including pet stores, breeders (both in person and online), or middleman dealers (sometimes known as brokers). Many of these unlicensed facilities sell puppies sight-unseen to unsuspecting buyers who assume they are purchasing from a small family breeder. Hundreds of these “direct” sellers have taken advantage of the pre-Internet language of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) regulations (otherwise known as the “retail pet stores loophole”) to operate without any federal oversight or inspections.
