Before the airlines were deregulated, the majority of air carriers conducted their maintenance in-house. After deregulation, with competitive pressures mounting and airlines failing and starting up seemingly simultaneously, the outsourcing of maintenance became more prevalent. Not restricted to U.S. airlines, outsourcing maintenance has become a global practice. Factors involved in the outsourcing decision range from a startup not having the capital to develop their own in-house maintenance program, to legacy carrier’s cost cutting efforts, and all points in between. Data from archival sources are analyzed via Hierarchical Linear Modeling in exploring: 1) systematic relationships between capacity and financial performance that they obtain over time; and 2) the role of strategic and environmental covariates in these relationships.

An isothermal reaction and analysis system may include a receiver to receive sample holders, a thermal control sub system to control a temperature of the receiver, an excitation Subsystem, a detection Subsystem and an analysis Subsystem. Excitation Sources and/or detectors are positioned to enhance data collection. Sample holders may include filters, selectively blocking and passing wavelengths or bands of electromagnetic radiation.

Research Brief: "The Effect Of Veterans Benefits On Education And Earnings", Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

This study found that veterans’ benefits which subsidize education make up the largest federal program for student aid, and that veterans’ benefits are estimated to increase future schooling by 1.4 years, meaning annual earnings for these veterans will be 6% higher than they would have been otherwise. In practice, that implies annual earnings approximately 6% higher than would have been expected in the absence of the benefits. In policy, policymakers should note that this study found smaller effects on earnings and education than previous studies have found. Suggestions for future study include comparing the annual earnings premium for veterans’ benefit …

Hong Kong Inter-Bank Offered Rate (HIBOR) is one of the most important interest rates in the Hong Kong money market. This paper studied some of the significant factors in determining HIBOR under Hong Kong‟s Linked Exchange Rate System using a VAR model to describe how various factors affect the movement of HIBOR. The result indicates that HIBOR, foreign exchange rate and M1 are correlated.

Over the last couple decades, more evidence has been found supporting the notion that investors are not always rational. Herding behaviors have been observed in both the stock market crash1 and financial bubbles2, which were beyond the understanding of modern finance theory. In this paper, the herding phenomenon was explored in the Chinese stock market by the study of the relationship between stock prices and trading volume over the past 7 years. There are many literatures devoted to the study of the uncovered interest parity (UIP); however, majority of them focus on whether UIP exists and only a few concentrate on the pattern of the UIP failure. By using a panel VAR approach, this paper compares the intensive carry trade period, between 2002 and 2005, and the pre-intensive carry trade period, between 1998 and 2001. The results show that during the intensive carry trade period UIP failure was caused by the self-fulfilling behaviour of investors. The main objective of this paper is to examine the impact of savings deposit rate and Hang Seng index on real estate prices in Hong Kong Market. Two different periods are chosen to conduct this research: one period is the deflationary time, from 1998 to 2003, and the other is the reviving economical time from 2004 to 2007. The aim of this research is to examine the influences of these variables in different economic conditions, and find out whether there are any causal effects amongst them.

This effort has involved a partnership among DDS, the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI), the State Employment Leadership Network, and the Work Without Limits project. ICI has worked alongside DDS throughout this effort, providing consulting, technical assistance, training, and evaluation activities.
