Facebook Ipo, Steven D. Dolvin May 2012

Facebook Ipo, Steven D. Dolvin

All Chapters

Facebook went public on Friday, May 18. Although the trading was flawed (as Nasdaq admitted), the initial price action was quite typical of an IPO. Shares were offered at $38, but spiked to almost $42 shortly after hitting the secondary market. Shares closed just above the offering price. For about the last 15 years, the average level of underpricing (or first day return) has been 15%. So, in these terms, the Facebook IPO was not that successful.

Metta, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Maybe I missed the memo. Perhaps I wasn’t paying close enough attention. Or somehow it wasn’t big enough news in London. Whatever the case may be, I was a startled when I read recently that someone named Metta World Peace was playing basketball in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers. I remember World B. Free of the NBA and He Hate Me of the XFL, but Metta World Peace was a new one.

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: May 18, 2012, Eric Thompson, William Walstad, Adam George May 2012

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: May 18, 2012, Eric Thompson, William Walstad, Adam George

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI‐N) increased at a moderate 0.44% rate during April 2012. The increase in the LEI‐N, which predicts economic growth in the state six months in the future, signals that the Nebraska economy will grow during the fall of 2012. However, recent evidence signals modest growth. The LEI‐N grew by 0.44% in April but declined during March. Further, there was mixed evidence of growth among the underlying components of the leading indicator. Rising manufacturing hours, positive business expectations, and declining initial unemployment claims all point to future growth. But, other components declined. Building permits and …

Data analysis included eight t-tests that revealed that voluntourists’ spending was lower in five out of six categories, total daily expenditures, and total trip spending. Two Essays: “Does Corporate Governance Affect The Adjustment Speed Towards Target Capital Structure?” And “Do Option Traders On Reits And Non-Reits React Differently To New Information?”, Li-Kai Liao

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

The first chapter investigates how corporate governance influences firms’ capital structure behavior. Based on the premise that costs associated with deviations from the target capital structure are positively correlated to the extent of deviation, we hypothesize that the initial deviation from the target will be shorter for a firm with good corporate governance than for a firm with poor corporate governance. We also hypothesize that the former group will employ a higher speed of adjustment towards target than the latter group due primarily to the following reasons. First, a firm with well-placed governance system will adjust at a faster rate …

Momentum, Nonlinear Price Discovery And Asymmetric Spillover: Sovereign Credit Risk And Equity Markets Of Emerging Countries And, Geoffrey M. Ngene

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

In Chapter 1, I hypothesize that there is a differential response by agents to changes in sovereign credit or default risk in both quiet (low default risk) and turbulent markets (high default risk). These market conditions create two different states of the market (world) or regimes. Investors and policy makers respond differently in the two regimes but the response in the turbulent market condition is amplified as policy makers attempt to smoothen the fluctuations and uncertainty while investors rebalance their portfolios in an attempt to hedge against downside risk of wealth loss. In the two regimes, the short run and …

Risk Aversion And Former Collegiate Athletes As Financial Investors, Tyler Buccetti May 2012

Risk Aversion And Former Collegiate Athletes As Financial Investors, Tyler Buccetti

This concept can be applied to finance when looking at investors decisions to invest in options with different levels of risk and returns. In order to determine this, an experiment was given to Graduate students working on a Master’s degree in business. The Growing Concern Of Poverty In The United States: An Exploration Of Food Prices And Poverty On Obesity Rates For Low-Income Citizens, Catherine Gillespie, Kathy Gray, Ethan Bailey, John Zivalich

Undergraduate Economic Review

Studies demonstrate the link between income and obesity, determining factors to explain the strong correlation between high body mass index and low socioeconomic status. Many focus on uncovering predictors but few use a systems approach: identifying the interaction among predictors and their relative magnitude concerning obesity. This study asks: do poverty or food price indicators have a statistically stronger relationship with obesity?

By collecting data, evaluating trends, and analyzing statistics, this study extends research by revealing a stronger relationship between obesity and food prices as opposed to obesity and poverty.
