Last spring, Huntsman marketing professors Cathy Hartman and Edwin Stafford got a chuckle over an Ogilvy Earth study that found green was too pink. Specifically, the ad agency reported that men, in general, resist environmentally-preferable behaviors and products, such as carrying reusable shopping bags at the supermarket, drinking from reusable water bottles, or driving gas-electric hybrid Priuses, because they perceive environmentalism as inherently too feminine.

Eliot did not know Lance Armstrong, it is an interesting coincidence that Eliot’s 1925 poem, from which this line is taken, is titled “The Hollow Men.” If you were someone who idolized Armstrong and believe now that he is guilty and there is a blot on his entire career, then he will indeed seem as one of those Hollow Men.

In the wake of the Crash of 2008, the government stepped in to bail out multiple institutions, including AIG. Following the economic recovery (albeit a moderate one), the government was able to exit its position, netting a $17.7 billion gain. So, while many people opposed the bailout, it actually served as a transfer from investors (generally considered the wealthy) to the government. See article here, LA Times.

Following the Crash of 2008, the SEC reinstated the uptick rule, albeit a modified version. The uptick rule kicks in if a stock's price drops 10% in one day. This prevents short selling except on an uptick. However, a trading glitch (which are increasingly common) effectively overlooked the rule. .

CASE DESCRIPTION: This short case focuses on harassment and intimidation problems faced by a manager and his family shortly after an employee has been terminated. Whether the departed employee is the intimidator, whether the employer is obligated to investigate and get involved in the matter, and which options or possible actions the manager and his family can take are the key issues in the case. The case has a difficulty level of four, and is best-suited for use in junior or senior undergraduate-level courses in human resource management or employment law. It is a natural experiment: two highly integrated national economies, sharing a vast continent, a common language and hundreds of years of common experience. They are bound by a free trade agreement which has fostered strong trade flows in goods, services and capital. Yet, in important respects, the structural characteristics of their financial institutions, and the regulatory framework in which they operate, are different, so different in fact, that one country has been crippled for several years now by the global financial crisis and the other has emerged virtually unscathed. This research aimed to discover whether or not the largest sport media corporation in the United States; ESPN, promotes acculturation for Hispanic Americans to enter into Americanized sport culture through its Spanish-language magazine publication of ESPN Deportes. The content analysis examined the covers of both ESPN Deportes and ESPN The Magazine from the 2011-year, using the English version of ESPN The Magazine as a base. The total population of Hispanics within the United States totals 50,477,594 making it the largest minority demographic in the nation. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to illustrate that conceptual frameworks developed from a general theory of competition, i.e. resourceadvantage (R-A) theory, can facilitate managerial action. Design/methodology/approach – After a brief overview of resource-advantage (R-A) theory, five conceptual frameworks are developed and offered for the purposes of managerial action. Findings – This paper identifies several conceptual frameworks and after noting that conceptual frameworks that do not have positive theoretical foundations may not be as useful as those that do, develops five conceptual frameworks that are based on R-A theory. Purpose – This paper seeks to explicate a dynamic theory of competition, i.e. the resource-advantage theory of competition, with the aim of developing a theoretical foundation for the eclectic paradigm of foreign production. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is conceptual in approach. Findings – The paper develops a set of five criteria that should be met by any theory that attempts to ground the eclectic paradigm. In addition, it demonstrates that the resource-advantage theory of competition meets all of these criteria. Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) grew by 1.24% during July 2012. The increase in the LEI-N, which predicts economic growth in the state six months in the future, follows two months of decline. Improvement in the indicator during July confirms that the Nebraska economy will continue to grow in late 2012 and early 2013, though growth will be slow. A primary reason for the improvement in the LEI-N was a sharp drop in initial unemployment claims during July, which suggests stability in the Nebraska labor market. Building permits for single-family homes also rose during July, an improving signal …

When a firm undertakes an IPO, insiders (owners and venture capitalists, among others) agree to retain their shares (i.e., lockup) for a period of time, typically six months. When the lockup period expires, it is customary to see a large block of shares flood the market, having an adverse effect on the stock's price. Facebook just hit its lockup expiration.
