A Computational Analysis Of Bundle Trading Markets Design For Distributed Resource Allocation, Zhiling Guo, Gary J. Koehler, Andrew B. Whinston

Online auction markets play increasingly important roles for resource allocations in distributed systems. This paper builds upon a market-based framework presented by Guo et al. (Guo, Z., G. J. Koehler, A. B. Whinston. 2007. A market-based optimization algorithm for distributed systems. Management Sci. 53(8) 1345–1458), where a distributed system optimization problem is solved by self-interested agents iteratively trading bundled resources in a double auction market run by a dealer. We extend this approach to a dynamic, asynchronous Internet market environment and investigate how various market design factors including dealer inventory policies, market communication patterns, and agent learning strategies affect the …

Can Middle Managers Make A Telling Contribution To Strategy Development In An Organisation, Tony Kealy

The role of the middle manager in organisations has been the topic of much research over the past number of decades. Many articles have been published claiming the potential for middle managers to contribute significantly to strategic development. This research attempts to test the validity of this theory with a practical grounding. This research is based on a qualitative study involving semi-structured interviews with four managers in different organisations. The project relies on established typologies for middle management involvement in strategy and middle management activity depending on organisational type.

Going forward, there will be fewer pension plans (switching to defined contribution plans), and social security is no guarantee. So, plan now. .

Most people are aware of stock options or futures contracts on commodities such as gold and oil. However, the derivatives market is very diverse, including such things as weather derivatives. With hurricane season upon us, you may want to do some research on hurricane futures and options (http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/weather/hurricanes/hurricane.html).
