As artificial intelligence (AI) technologies like GenAI tools increasingly reshape the workplace, employees increasingly face threats to their work identity. Grounded in the identity threat response model and job crafting theory, this study investigates how AI identity threat influences employee AI job crafting behaviors and how these behaviors, in turn, affect vitality and learning. Using survey data from 521 full-time employees who actively engage with AI tools, the results indicate that AI identity threat stimulates both AI approach job crafting and AI avoidance job crafting. Chapter 1: The Influence of Ownership Structure on REITs’ Financing Decisions
This essay explores how ownership structure affects REITs’ financing decisions following natural disasters. The results show that REITs with high insider ownership tend to increase leverage in the aftermath of such events, while those with high institutional ownership, especially long-term institutional ownership, are more likely to reduce leverage. These findings provide further evidence of the monitoring role of institutional investors in shaping REITs’ financial strategies during times of crisis.

The dissertation consists of three chapters on behavioral finance, arbitrage activities, cryptocurrencies and ETFs. The first chapter examines the existence and trading behavior of triangular arbitrageurs in cryptocurrency markets. Using a novel account-level orderbook dataset from an Indian cryptocurrency exchange, we document persistent price deviations between USD- and INRquoted token pairs, and use the triangular arbitrage opportunities to identify arbitrageurs and noise traders. Our results show that arbitrageurs significantly outperform noise traders on their holding-based returns, after adjusting for market returns and trading fees. However, arbitrageurs are not immune to behavioral biases when making trading decisions. Using a composite behavioral …

This study investigates the multifaceted influence of cultural tightness and multiculturalism on the global commercial success of pop music. Addressing an under-explored moderating effect of multicultural factors on creative output under tight culture, this research analyzes Billboard Global 200 and Spotify Top 50 chart data from 2013-2021. The empirical analysis reveals that cultural tightness negatively impacts pop song’s success. Conversely, multiculturalism, specifically through diverse languages and performance teams, generally enhances global success. In finance, risk is often quantified by volatility, and computing accurate volatility forecasts — while vital to financial decision making — remains one of the most challenging tasks in financial modeling. This thesis, motivated in part by the Black-Scholes-Merton Model and its limitations, adopts a statistical approach to volatility forecasting. The two main models of interest are the Exponential Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) model and the GARCH(1,1) model. As artificial intelligence (AI) systems become increasingly embedded in auditing processes, questions arise regarding how professional auditors perceive and allocate responsibility for AI-assisted decisions. This study investigates the effects of AI explainability and auditors’ perceived autonomy on perceived responsibility in the context of audit decision-making. Drawing on theories of moral responsibility and professional judgment, the study employs a 2x2 experimental design using hypothetical audit scenarios to manipulate levels of AI explainability and auditors’ autonomy. Hierarchical regression analysis reveals that perceived autonomy statistically significantly increases auditors’ perception of responsibility for AI-assisted decisionmaking, whereas AI explainability is not a significant predictor.
