The scope or aim of this thesis is to plan, install and measure the results of a performance improvement program directed towards supervisory personnel.

The planning stage consists of investigating secondary works by others pertaining directly or closely to the subject of performance improvement programs. Primary data have been collected in order to have all the facts necessary to plan an effective program. These data include past performance of shifts, defining shift problems and objectives. and techniques to accomplish objectives. An attempt is made here to record all the events that took place in planning this procedure.

The paper industry is a major growth segment of our nation's industry in all its aspects, however, and the specialty mills and their products continue to grow proportionately with the industry. Fllters, gaskets, and saturated products, once the sole property of leather, rubber and more sophisticated materials, are predominately made of high grade paper products. Financial records are important as historical records; as a source of information for creditors, owners and investors; and as a tool with which management can analyze business. An accelerated technological tempo is notable in the demand expressions for military product. As performance requirements move toward ever increasing speeds, higher temperatures, higher strength-to-weight ratios, and miniaturization, the industrial complex exhibits a tendency toward specialized manufacture to meet these demands. There is a resultant multiplication in the complexity of the supplier-buyer relationship as a result of this specialization. Further, as new links are added to the chain of events involved between raw material and piece part manufacturing, through components and subcomponent design and manufacture to the complete system level, the communication network becomes correspondingly complex.

It was the purpose of this survey to find out what post-basic preparation the administrative, supervisory and head nurses had received for their positions in six Seventh-day Adventist hospitals. The descriptive survey was chosen as the method of approach in the study. An information card was devised to gather the data. A total of 190 or 81 percent of the 235 anticipated responses were returned. The recommended preparation for nurses in nursing service positions, as set forth by the American Nurses' Association in the Functions, Standards and Qualifications for Practice, was selected as the criteria by which this preparation was …

The purpose of this study was to observe and analyze the activities of the nursing team leader on a selected medical unit of the Loma Linda Sanitarium and Hospital and to measure the percentage of time spent in each recognized function.

To accomplish this, the descriptive survey method was used. Six team leaders were "shadowed" by an. observer for a total of ten days. The purpose of this survey was to ascertain factors which influence job satisfaction among the head nurse and staff nurse groups in a selected denominational hospital.

For this study the normative survey approach was used as the method of research. The SRA Employee Inventory put out by Science Research Associates, Inc., in connection with the Industrial Relations Center of the University of Chicago was the tool of research used to collect the data.
