This thesis randomly sampled the general aviation pilot population of Utah, Nevada, and Idaho for the purpose of determining the extent of the near midair collision hazards in these areas. The conditions investigated were all possible situations associated with a flight, and all that could be readily answered on a data form without encountering bias in the study.

The thesis provided certain insights into what hazards are to be expected in the general aviation population of the three states under study. It also indicated as much as possible, what the causes were of the hazards and what actions could be …

This study was designed to determine the relative profitability of sugar beet production relative to other enterprises competing with sugar beets for limited resources and to estimate a production response of sugar beet growers in the beet producing areas of Utah.

Sugar beet producing areas in Utah were delineated. Representative farm units for beef-crop, dairy-crop, and all-crop farms were synthesized. Enterprise budgets were formulated and analysed to ascertain the relative profitableness of sugar beets compared to competing enterprises in each production area.

The purposes of this study were: (a) to explain the nature of the existing bilateral oligapolistic situation in the ready-to-eat (RTE) breakfast cereal industry; (b) to clarify the role of marketing as an instrument in the product and service competition within the industry; and (c) to develop an explanatory framework which describes the causal relationships among the possible marketing barriers as well as the attendant risk and uncertainty in new cereal investment.

There exist a number of factors which operate as potentially significant determinants of the distributional impact of the property tax within any specific urban or metropolitan area. This study is an attempt to explain the income distribution effects of one factor -- the property tax reappraisal lag. The study is limited mainly to the impact of the lag on owners of single-family housing.

An income distribution problem arises because each property subject to the property tax is reappraised only every five or six years. Each Oregon county is divided into five or six maintenance districts to facilitate reappraisal. For example, …

Farmers' cooperatives were an important marketing organization in the agricultural industry. This study pertained to evaluating the efficiency of farmers' cooperatives in Iowa. More specifically, the problem investigated the relationship between size and net savings, the value of four ratios in determining profitability, and the sectors which showed the most variation between the most and least profitable firms.

This study was designed to determine if reducing the length of timed writings from five minutes to one minute during eight weeks of first semester typewriting would result in lower performance. The control group used 5-minute timed writings during the eight-week period. However, the experimental group used 1-minute timed writings except during the last week of the semester when 5-minute timed-writing posttests were used in both groups.

This study attempts to explore the possibilities of developing Bayesian decision theory as a descriptive behavioral model for depicting and predicting the general and basic rationality underlying managerial decision-making behavior under certain circumstances. A laboratory controlled experiment approach was employed for this study, In May of 1969, forty sophomores on the campus of the University of New Mexico were selected to serve as subjects. None of the subjects had knowledge of Bayesian statistical decision theory. Each subject was required to make Independent managerial decisions based on intuition. A major portion of new electric generating capacity will be nuclear powered. The change to nuclear power will require large outlays of capital not required with conventional fuels to finance nuclear fuel inventories. Nuclear fuel financing requirements are unique because nuclear fuel is not consumed in the same manner as conventional fuels. Financing has not been a problem to date because nuclear fuel can be obtained only through lease from the Atomic Energy Commission. This arrangement will be terminated by June 30, 1973 and from that date on all nuclear fuel must be privately owned. Electric utilities have shown an …

Although there are several methods for constructing such a composite index, this thesis examines the application of factor analysis to the construction of an OBAI. Bank management is constantly faced with the task of maximizing asset profitability within the constraints of liquidity and safety. In an attempt to aid management in the solution of this problem, several asset management models and theories have been developed. One such model was developed by D. Chambers and A. Charnes and was presented in the July, 1961 issue of Management Science. This model utilizes a linear programming approach to determine an optimal asset portfolio which maximizes profits while satisfying a bank's liquidity and safety needs.
