This thesis will focus on the study of the small independent insurance agent and a method to survive in the 1990's.

The small independent insurance agency is faced with a number of problems which may jeopardize the future existence of the independent system as we know it today. These concerns include: lack of market availability; higher premium volumes required by the insurance companies; intense competition from direct writers, captive agents, and national brokerage houses; increased office and operating expenses; and a perpetuation plan £or the business in the event of death, disability or retirement.

It is envisaged that computers in industry will bring about similar sweeping changes to the workforce as those that took place during the eighteenth century. This study assesses the goal commitment generated by different approaches to goal setting. The participants were the directors, board presidents, staff, board members and volunteers of two non-profit organizations. One group explored their history as an organization, significant events and the impact of those events before carrying out the same goal setting process as the other group. Self-efficacy was measured before the exercise began. Goal commitment was measured after participants prioritized goals and selected subgoals on which to take action. The hypothesis that cognitively reviewing past history would lead to greater commitment was rejected. A second hypothesis that the self-efficacy …

This study was designed to describe the most important tasks being carried out in the operation of commercial health clubs, and also tasks for which health club managers perceive a deficiency in their preparation. A survey was designed and mailed to all (106) health clubs throughout Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota that were members of the International Physical Fitness Association. Subjects were asked to indicate the degree of emphasis that selected tasks receive within their health clubs, and also their perception of the training they received to perform the tasks. The purpose of this study was to investigate the nutrition knowledge of wait staff in 24-hour, full menu/table service restaurants. Also explored was the relationship of sex, age, education level, average number of hours worked per week, total length of employment as a wait staff member, and personal dietary interest to knowledge of nutrition in wait staff. In the fall of 1990, 160 questionnaires were delivered to wait staff at eight 24-hour, full menu/table service restaurants in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. The problem of this study was to develop and validate a training model for training maintenance supervisors. This training model focused on those areas, defined by industrial managers, where additional supervisory training was most likely to improve the performance of the maintenance departments.

Research of industrial and maintenance publications identified the maintenance function as having one of the lowest productivity levels in manufacturing organizations. Supervisor training was identified as a means to improve productivity in maintenance departments. The purpose of this study is to develop a productivity measurement applicable to home health registered nurses (RNs) by identifying and quantifying the knowledge and ability variables that define productive nurse practice.

A preliminary set of knowledge and ability variables was identified based on content analysis of interviews with local nurse managers and round I of a three round Delphi procedure, using a purposive sample of nurse managers from nationally preeminent agencies. A study advocating the elimination of corporate income taxes. Resulting benefits and savings are described including the creation of a more progressive personal tax structure and a reduction of general price levels. The shift in tax burden from public to private sectors is examined along with the determination of an average corporate tax rate used to calculate the expected price reductions. Different individuals, with the same ability and faced with the same environmental constraints, exert varying amounts of effort, and, to the extent that performance is a function of effort, achieve different levels of performance. This study proposes and tests a theory of motivation which is an integration of what have previously been considered separate, and often conflicting, theories of motivation.
