The results of previous investigation on work values suggest that the contradictory findings in regard to gender differences may be rooted in variations in the underlying structure of the work-values domain. In present study, work values are regarded as (1) evaluative standards relating to work or the work environment by which individuals discern what is right and (2) the importance of preferences at work. First, it examines sex-role stereotypes resulting from a colonial background, as a cause of wage discrimination. Numerous studies have reported the existence of calendar anomalies in stock returns. In this study, we investigate the calendar anomalies of forty stocks of the trading/services sector in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) over the period of 3 January 1995 to 2 November 2000. The calendar anomalies such as the pre-holiday effect, half-monthly effect, and time-of-the-month effect are examined. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the presence of seasonal variation in stock volatility and trading return across the days of the week and their causal relationship in the Malaysian stock market for period 3 July 1995 to 30 June 2000. The study revealed that there is no strong evidence to indicate the persistent presence of seasonal variation in stock volatility across the days of the week for the entire sample period and the three sub-periods, which correspond with a stable, declining and rising stock market. This research aims to investigate the job-related ethical beliefs of four - star hotel employees in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The results show that the four­dimensional factors model as suggested by Vitell and Muncy (1992) can explain hotel employees' job-related ethics. The result revealed that employees working in departments, which have direct contact with hotel guests such as Food & Beverage, have higher tolerance for unethical behaviours. Significant differences were observed when analyzing the demographic variables (i.e. sex and education level) with the four factors identified including: no harm; unethical behaviours; actively benefiting; and passively benefiting. It is generally perceived that FDI (foreign direct investment) plays an important role in economic development especially in the industrialisation process in Malaysia. The extent of FDI's contribution to manufacturing growth remains uncertain. By using econometric models, this study attempts to analyse the impact of FDI on manufacturing output, manufacturing exports, manufacturing imports and manufacturing employment generation. The empirical results showed that the impact of FDI on manufacturing output growth is not as critical as expected. This paper contributes to the debate concerning the sources of growth of newly industrializing East Asian economies, of which Malaysia is an example. It provides an empirical analysis of total factor productivity (TFP) in Malaysia for the period of 1971- 1999. This paper finds that the TFP growth is estimated to be around 2% per annum over the last thirty year, somewhat higher than the previous estimates for four Asian Tigers but remain a small fraction of the actual GDP per worker growth. In Malaysia there are strict laws that prohibit insider trading. With the presence of such laws, this study explores whether insider trading exists on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE). Information on insider trading obtained from filing made to the KLSE by directors and substantial shareholders from 1 March 2000 to 7 March 2000 were analysed for abnormal returns. Based on daily price movements for 150 days before and after a transaction was carried out, it was observed that there are signals of insider trading on the KLSE. This study concluded that unit trust funds on average would be able to outperform the KLCI during the bear market.
