Female Athletes In The Media, Christopher J. Maley
Sport Management Undergraduate
Within the arena of sport, there is a common belief that female athletes are inferior and incapable athletes. The media plays a role in reinforcing this stereotype. This study examines the article patterns of female athletes in Time magazine from 2007 to 2009. The study will inspect the length and content of articles in every issue distributed in this time frame to see if these athletes are given appropriate exposure. If past research indicates future findings, the sample will show that female athletes are seen less for their athletic accomplishments and more for their off-the-field endeavors. Furthermore, the athletes that …

The Effect Alternate Player Efficiency Rating Has On Nba Franchises Regarding Winning And Individual Value To An Organization, Anthony Van Curen
Sport Management Undergraduate
For NBA organizations, it can be argued that success is measured in terms of wins and championships. There are major emphases placed on the demand for “superstar” players and the ability to score. Both of which are assumed to be a player’s value to their respective organization. However, this study will attempt to show that scoring alone cannot measure success. The research uses statistics from the 2008-2011 seasons that can be used to measure success through aspects such as efficiency, productivity, value and wins a player contributes to their organization. The analysis shows there is a correlation between those factors …

Using a survey method, this study sought to uncover responses of consumers when presented with four different types of images of athletes. Results indicated that for image conditions of athletic competence and sexy, male and female respondents showed distinct behavioral differences. Adjective descriptors of athlete images also revealed significant insights into how …

Linking Authentic Leadership To Positive Employee Health, Behavioral Engagement, And Job Performance, Yan Liu
Doctoral Dissertations
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the emerging field of positive organizational behavior. The field of Positive Organizational Behavior (POB) has its roots in the concept of "positive psychology" (Bakker & Schaufeli, 2008) but is more narrowly defined as "the study and application of positively oriented human resources strengths and psychological capacities that can be measured, developed, and effectively managed for performance improvement in today's workplace" (Luthans, 2002, p.698). More and more researchers have begun to emphasize what is right with people rather than focusing on what is wrong with people.
Given this opportunity, this dissertation explicitly …

Poverty is an age long problem that has been part of mankind ever since civilization and the fight against poverty is as old. There are many efforts to fight poverty of which microfinance is one. One theory to explain prevalence of poverty especially in the age of capitalism is that poor enterprising people cannot lift themselves out of poverty because they lack capital to develop their enterprises. Start up businesses and enterprises commonly start operations with credit support from financial institutions but there are prerequisites to attaining this credit and numerous poor individuals do not possess these prerequisites. Such individuals …

Consumer Attitudes Towards Using Qr Codes In A Retail Setting, Chris Thayer
Undergraduate Distinction Papers
Corresponding with the increased use of smartphones and other mobile devices equipped with a camera, quick response (QR) codes have been introduced. QR codes allow large amounts of data (e.g., product information, discounts, usage suggestions) to be compressed into a small, printed square. To access the information, consumers must scan the QR code with a smart device (smartphone, tablet, etc). Korean and Japanese consumers appear more willing to scan QR codes in retail settings compared to their American counterparts. This reluctance is explored through the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).
Furthermore, consumers’ motivation toward QR code use is made explicit and …
