Current research examines how corporate philanthropy can be effective in building trust and perceived impact on the cause being supported. Because there is a plethora of corporate philanthropy practices, businesses must decide on the best possible avenue …

Although numerous studies have documented the value of involving diverse perspectives in decision-making processes (Donovan & Caplan, 2019; Gero & Garrity, 2018; Williams, 2013; Woolley & Malone, 2011), many individuals and organizations—ranging from the corporate sector and the political realm to postsecondary education—have voiced commitments to increasing the representation of women in higher ranks, yet they have been stymied in achieving measurable results. A variety of examples in the research-based literature reflect the glacial pace of progress for women into leadership roles across a variety of fields. Examining the …

We consider a firm consisting of two divisions, one responsible for designing and manufacturing new products and the other responsible for remanufacturing operations. The firm will sell these new and remanufactured products either directly to the consumer (direct selling) or through an independent retailer (indirect selling). Our study demonstrates that a firm’s organizational structure can affect its marketing decisions. Specifically, a decentralized firm with separate manufacturing and remanufacturing divisions can benefit from indirect selling with higher firm profit, supply chain profit, and total consumer demand than direct selling. Moreover, this structure also induces a remanufacturable product design. In contrast, a …

The Expanded View Of Individualism And Collectivism: One, Two, Or Four Dimensions?, Jennifer L. Priestley, Kamal Fatehi, Gita Taasoobshirazi
Faculty Articles
Recent research to analyze and discuss cultural differences has employed a combination of five major dimensions of individualism–collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, femininity– masculinity (gender role differentiation), and long-term orientation. Among these dimensions, individualism–collectivism has received the most attention. Chronologically, this cultural attribute has been regarded as one, then two, and more recently, four dimensions of horizontal and vertical individualism and collectivism. However, research on this issue has not been conclusive and some have argued against this expansion. The current study attempts to explain and clarify this discussion by using a shortened version of the scale developed by Singelis et …

The Effects Of Product Recalls On Competitors’ Market Value And Recalling Firm’S Reputation, Dong Liu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Scholars have paid intensive attention to product recalls over the past two decades. Prior studies show that product recalls negatively affect the recalling firm’s sales, consumer-based brand equity, and firm value. However, less attention has been paid to the spillover effect of product recalls on the market value of the recalling firm’s competitors in the same industry, and the long-term effect of product recalls on firm reputation. The objective of this dissertation is to fill up these research gaps through two essays.
In Essay 1, I investigate factors affecting the spillover effect of a product recall on the firm value …

Women And Finances: What Utahns Need To Know, Robbyn T. Scribner, Susan R. Madsen

Throughout much of history, women have been seen as an extension of their male relatives when it comes to finances; American women were not allowed to own property in their names until the mid-1800s, overt pay discrimination was legal until 1963, and women could not access credit on their own until 1974. Hence, it is only in the last half century or so that women in the US have been able to participate fully in the financial matters that affect their everyday lives. This holds true in Utah as well, yet Utah women’s lives in the 21st century look dramatically …
