Threshold Lives: Exploring The Liminal Consumption Of Tweens, Kevina Cody, Katrina Lawlor, Pauline Maclaren Jan 2010

Threshold Lives: Exploring The Liminal Consumption Of Tweens, Kevina Cody, Katrina Lawlor, Pauline Maclaren

Articles

The intervening spaces of socio-cultural organisation have proved sources of fascination and powerful theory development in the fields of sociology, psychology and anthropology (e.g. Douglas, 1966; Van Gennep, 1961; Freud, 1950, Foucault, 1977). Consumer culture research has hitherto acknowledged the potency of studying transitional phenomena, spaces and places and the interactions of varied ontologies with the consumption experiences of the individuals or group in flux and evolution (e.g. Davies and Fitchett, 2004; Maldonado and Tansuhaj, 1999; Gentry, 1997; Schouten, 1991). But what of those whose reality is the threshold between two ordered and defined worlds, the centre of nowhere? This …

The Application Of Social Marketing In Increasing Blood Donation Among Donors And Non Donors: The Case Of Third Level Students., John Healy Jan 2010

The Application Of Social Marketing In Increasing Blood Donation Among Donors And Non Donors: The Case Of Third Level Students., John Healy

Theses

In today’s society, blood donation is dependent on the goodwill of people to voluntarily donate blood without financial reward. There is a continuous need for new blood donors, because the demand for donor blood is increasing, whereas the supply of blood is declining. Three thousand blood donations are needed in Ireland every week. Maintaining an adequate supply is the biggest challenge. Only 3.6% of the population in the Republic of Ireland donate blood. This leaves an enormous potential blood donor base, which if tapped into and maintained could lead to an adequate reserve of donations to meet the transfusion needs …

Telling The Brand Story: Including News Articles In Online Promotional Strategies, Anca C. Micu Jan 2010

Telling The Brand Story: Including News Articles In Online Promotional Strategies, Anca C. Micu

WCBT Faculty Publications

Given the growing popularity of the Internet as a promotional medium, it is crucial for brand managers to examine the effects of combining the different brand communication sources online. According to social comprehension theory and knowledge from neuroscience, people exposed to a message spontaneously construct a mental simulation. People who are exposed to images or visuals are unlikely to assign verbal labels to their observations, whereas people who read a story may spontaneously form mental pictures of the narrative content. Mental processing of stories requires more extensive elaboration than processing of visuals. In a first study, survey results indicate online …

The Study Of Antecedents Of Customer Loyalty Towards Established Mobile Service Providers In Malaysia., Nicole Yap Chen Yan Jan 2010

The Study Of Antecedents Of Customer Loyalty Towards Established Mobile Service Providers In Malaysia., Nicole Yap Chen Yan

Student Works (2010-2019)

Despite the high churn rates, the Malaysian telecommunications industry is growing. However, the lack of customer focus in this market has yielded one of the worst customer loyalty levels. The competitiveness of the domestic market has been further intensified with the implementation of mobile network portability (MNP), which has further complicated the issue of customer loyalty, as research has shown that better deals and low switching costs means that satisfied consumers never mind changing service provider. This shows that satisfaction no longer ensures loyalty (Grabowich & Guy, 2007). The purpose of this research is to identify the major antecedents that …

Does Service Matter? An Examination Of Donor Perceptions Of Service Quality In College Athletics, Stephen L. Shapiro

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Faculty Publications

Service quality has been recognized as a strategic tool for improving organizational performance. Many non-profit organizations have taken a market-based approach to fundraising, which enhances the importance of service excellence. The purpose of this investigation was to examine donor perceptions of service quality in college athletics. First, an adapted version of Sargeant's (2001) non-profit service quality instrument was examined to assess its appropriateness within the context of college athletic donors. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and validity and reliability analyses provided evidence of an adequate model fit. Subsequently, three multiple linear regression models were developed to examine the relationship between service …

Structural Analysis Of Affect In The Pre-Purchase Context, Rosemary R. Seva, Henry Been Lirn Duh, Martin G. Helander

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Previous studies on consumption related affect did not identify specific components in the pre-purchase context. This article reviewed theoretical bases of affect and its relationship to product judgment and determined the components and structure of pre-purchase affect. Field studies were conducted to gather an initial list of affect experienced before purchasing “highinvolvement” products. An initial list of 94 pre-purchase affect was identified and trimmed down to 18 after further statistical analysis. A second study was conducted to determine the structure of the pre-purchase emotion set (PES) derived from the first study. Multidimensional scaling was used and four clusters of emotion …

Corruption In Contemporary Nigeria, Gabriel K. Afolabi

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Events in contemporary Nigeria point to the fact that corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten into the fabric of every facet of national life. Employee theft is a common occurrence in many organizations. This study focuses on the nature of corruption, as well as causes, and strategies to adopt in curbing this disease in contemporary Nigeria. Diagnosing Service Quality In Retailing: The Case Of Singapore, Srinivas Durvasula, Steven Lysonski

Marketing Faculty Research and Publications

This paper examines the service quality perceptions of consumers towards retailers in Singapore. We applied SERVQUAL, a popular measure of service quality to a sample of 172 consumers to assess service quality perceptions, expectations and gaps in service quality. We first examined the dimensionality and reliability of this scale. Subsequently, analysis by various demographic groups revealed significant gaps in service quality; the gaps in quality were much higher for some service quality dimensions than for others. The implications of these results for Singapore retailers and retail entrepreneurs are then presented along with future research directions.

I Was Banging My Head Against A Brick Wall: Exclusionary Power And The Gendering Of Sport Organizations, Ruth Sibson Jan 2010

I Was Banging My Head Against A Brick Wall: Exclusionary Power And The Gendering Of Sport Organizations, Ruth Sibson

Research outputs pre 2011

The under-representation of women in sport management has increasingly been recognized by government and nongovernment organizations, and there has been some attempt to redress the imbalance. Research has indicated, however, that the gendering of sport organizations is not simply a numbers' game. The purpose of this study was to analyze the exercise of exclusionary power as an aspect of gender relations within a six member volunteer Board of Directors of an Australian local, grass-roots sport organization. Data were gathered using semistructured interviews, participant observation and documentary evidence over a 15-month period. This study identified that, although numerical under-representation of men …

This panel takes three papers and details how municipalities and universities can collaborate, develop, and market policies that subsidize collegiate athletic capital improvement projects and improve both groups. Each paper uses either resource dependency theory or interpretive policy analysis as theoretical frameworks to explore how local governments and universities can add value to their environments, while improving the lives of their constituents. While this kind of community project is not new the difficulties rest in getting people to agree to an additional tax levy. Each paper on this panel communicates the multiple advantages and disadvantages associated with approving and marketing …
