Effect Of Social Media On Crowdfunding Project Results, Alexey Moisseyev

College of Business: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The purpose of this thesis is to define the influence of social media on crowdfunding. In particular, this research studies the connections between social media assets such as the social media followers and the social media seals of approval and crowdfunding results such as …

The Relationship Between Equity Dependence And Environmental Performance, Jason B. Macdonald, Matthew Maher May 2013

The Relationship Between Equity Dependence And Environmental Performance, Jason B. Macdonald, Matthew Maher

Marketing Faculty Publications and Presentations

How does a corporation’s dependence on its shareholders affect the sustainability of its commitment to environmental performance? Although the literature has investigated how the financial markets respond to environmental and green initiatives, it has yet to examine the relationship between a firm’s commitment to the environment and its dependence on the equity markets. In this research, we explore the relationship between equity dependence and environmental performance and find equity dependence is significantly related to corporations’ environmental concerns but not their environmental strengths.

Achieving Change In Students' Attitudes Toward Group Projects By Teaching Group Skills, Lawrence Hamer, Robert O'Keefe

College of Business Faculty and Staff Works

Despite the many positive benefits which can be derived from group assignments, faculty members frequently report that students generally dislike being assigned to a group project. This paper reports a quasi-experiment which presented students with information about the relevance and importance of group skills during the time in which they were working on an assigned group project, and then measured the students' attitudes toward group projects. The reported study demonstrates that instructors can alter students' perceptions of group work by incorporating instruction about group skills into group assignments.

Social Norms Marketing, Social Networks And Alcohol Consumption: A Collegiate Context. Investigating Feasability In Ireland., Sarah Samdani

Doctoral

The current Irish policies have not been adequately effective in reducing alcohol consumption. There is a need to consider alternative strategies, such as the increasingly popular SN marketing campaigns, which have been applied successfully in the US college system. However, the potential of these campaigns has not been evaluated in Ireland. It is also not clear from the literature if descriptive or injunctive norm types will be more likely to induce behaviour change. Further, while SN interventions tend to provide ‘friends’ or ‘typical student’ as referent groups, little is understood about how individuals visualize these groups and how salient these …

Implementation Of Slowly Changing Dimension To Data Warehouse To Manage Marketing Campaigns In Banks, Lihui Wang, Junyu Choy, Michelle L. F. Cheong

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Management of updating and recording campaign leads in data warehouse of any banking environment is complex especially with multiple campaigns are active simultaneously. As a way to avoid overly contacting customers for sales-based marketing contacts, the concept of Recency Frame is introduced to “lock” the customers who are targeted in Sales-based campaign for a specified time period. During this Recency Frame, the customer cannot be targeted by other Sales-based campaign under the same channel. This approach increased the difficulties of managing the customers’ data with proper data updating and storing and procedures have to be placed and made sufficiently robust …

Harvesting The Twittersphere: Qualitative Research Methods Using Twitter, Anthony La Rosa May 2013

Harvesting The Twittersphere: Qualitative Research Methods Using Twitter, Anthony La Rosa

Honors College Theses

Harvesting the Twittersphere explores the current state of research, by comparing quantitative to qualitative and analyzing the current market. In a consumer driven market, it seems that most businesses are neglecting to perfomr qualitative research. It could be because of the falling cost and increasing convenience of quantitative research methods provided by cloud systems such as: Salesforce.com, IBM, SAP, and Mckinsey. Another reason may be that there is no efficient or inexpensive way to conduct qualitative research on a digital platform. While certain companies try to conduct qualitative studies online by using chat rooms, discussion boards or Facebook prompts, there …

Firms' Intentions To Use Nonownership Services, Kristina Wittkowski, Sabine Moeller, Jochen Wirtz

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In this study, we investigate why companies intend to use nonownership services by conducting qualitative interviews with 10 experts to develop our hypotheses, then using a survey to test them. Our findings show that, as hypothesized, firms’ intentions to use nonownership services are affected by both financial (i.e., tax efficiency and cash and liquid asset management) and nonfinancial (i.e., control over assets and access to the latest technology and tools) factors, with access to the latest technology and tools being the most important driver. Furthermore, we show that the effect that the desire to gain access to the latest technology …

Mixed Products- How Adding Different Attributes Influences Consumer Perceptions And Product Evaluation, You Jae Yi, Sun Hee Muhn

Asia Marketing Journal

During recent decades, the number of mixed attribute products (henceforth mixed products), which have both utilitarian and hedonic benefits, has increased dramatically. Despite these products` growing popularity, academic research has paid little attention to them, and there remains a gap between theory and the real world. Hence, our study was undertaken to understand consumers` perceptions about and behaviors toward mixed products, as well as factors affecting the evaluation and choice of these products. We divided mixed attribute products into two categories: mixed utilitarian products (utilitarian products adding hedonic attributes) and mixed hedonic products (hedonic products adding utilitarian attributes). We then …

Innovative Marketing Channel In The South Korean Retail Banking Industry, Hwan Chung, Sang Young Kim, Chang Jo Yoo

Asia Marketing Journal

To overcome the profitability challenge these days, many global banks are increasingly focusing on cost efficiency through more efficient banking processes, such as online and mobile banking, whereas a number of other banks choose to differentiate their services for retaining and attracting the most valuable customer segment (Deloitte, 2011). While global banks in the retail banking industry are adopting either of these two business models as a strategic choice for their long-term growth, KB Kookmin Bank, one of the leading retail banks in South Korea, has begun to operate ‘KB Rockstar’ as a strategic channel, particularly designed to target college …

Increasing Returns To Information And Its Application To The Korean Movie Market, Sang Hoon Kim, You Seok Lee Apr 2013

Increasing Returns To Information And Its Application To The Korean Movie Market, Sang Hoon Kim, You Seok Lee

Asia Marketing Journal

Since movies are experience goods, consumers are easily influenced by other consumers` behavior. For moviegoers, box office rank is the most credible and easily accessible information. Many studies have found that the relationship between a movie`s box office rank and its revenue departs from the Pareto distribution, and this phenomenon has been named “increasing returns to information.” The primary objective of the current research is to apply the empirical model proposed by De Vany and Walls (1996) to the Korean movie market in order to examine whether the same phenomenon prevails in the Korean movie market. The other purpose of …

An Examination Of The Effectiveness Of Crisis Response Strategies For Repairing Competence And Integrity Violations, Yen Yi Sung, Han Joon Lee, Jong Chul Park Apr 2013

An Examination Of The Effectiveness Of Crisis Response Strategies For Repairing Competence And Integrity Violations, Yen Yi Sung, Han Joon Lee, Jong Chul Park

Asia Marketing Journal

Product-harm crises, which are connected to defective or dangerous products, are perceived as the most common threats to a company. Product harm crises can distort long standing favorable equality perceptions, tarnish a company`s reputation, cause major revenue and market-share losses, lead to costly product recalls, and devastate a carefully nurtured brand equity. However, in spite of the devastating impact of product-harm crises, little systematic research exists to asses its marketing consequences. So, the purpose of this study is to investigate how Koreans react to the crisis response in the aftermath of different crises(competence violation vs. integrity violation) and inspire additional …

Movie Choice Under Joint Decision, Young Ju Kim, Jae Hwan Kim Apr 2013

Movie Choice Under Joint Decision, Young Ju Kim, Jae Hwan Kim

Asia Marketing Journal

This study describes consumers` movie choices in conjunction with other group members and attempts to reassess the effect of the online word of mouth (WOM) source in a joint decision context. The tendency of many people to go to movies in groups has been mentioned in previous literature but there is no modeling research that studies movie choice from the group decision perspective. We found that ignoring the group movie-going perspective can result in a misunderstanding, especially underestimation of genre preference and the impact of the WOM variables. Most of the studies to measure online WOM effects were done at …

A Case Study Of Shanghai Tang, Klaus Heine, Michel Phan Apr 2013

A Case Study Of Shanghai Tang, Klaus Heine, Michel Phan

Asia Marketing Journal

This case focuses on Shanghai Tang, the first truly Chinese luxury brand that appeals to both Westerners and, more recently, to Chinese consumers worldwide. A visionary and wealthy businessman Sir David Tang created this company from scratch in 1994 in Hong Kong. Its story, spanned over almost two decades, has been fascinating. It went from what best a Chinese brand could be in the eyes of Westerners who love the Chinese culture, to a nearly-bankrupted company in 1998, before being acquired by Richemont, the second largest luxury group in the world. Since then, its turnaround has been spectacular with a …

Brand Evaluations Across Age Cohorts And Ethnic Groups: Convergence In The Youth Segment?, Michael P. Levens Apr 2013

Brand Evaluations Across Age Cohorts And Ethnic Groups: Convergence In The Youth Segment?, Michael P. Levens

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Research indicates a general consensus that ethnicity does influence consumption behavior, consumer experience, marketing response and media selection. It is, however, unclear as to the extent of that influence and the nature of the difference from segmenting consumers on some other criteria such as needs. Businesses have approached ethnic marketing in different ways ranging from a targeted effort at distinct ethnic markets to a more multi-cultural theme that is shared across many different groups. Today’s youth are often considered to view the world from a diverse perspective such that youth and diversity are often considered synonymous. An assessment of brand …

The Influence Of Social Networking Sites On Buying Behaviors Of Millennials, Sharon S. Pate, Melinda Adams

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Social media sites have become an important part of many individuals’ lives. According to the Pew Research Center (2010), Millennials, also known as Gen Y, are living their lives on the internet where 75% of them have a profile on a social networking site. When compared with only 50% of Gen Xers and 30% of Boomers, this gives them the distinct identity that they are more technologically advanced.
