The Malay World In Colonial Fiction, Lily Kong, Victor R. Savage Jun 1986

The Malay World In Colonial Fiction, Lily Kong, Victor R. Savage

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

Examines the mental images Westerners formed of their subjective perceptions of a unique section of the earth's surface - the Malay world - and in a particular time-frame - the high colonial period (circa 1870 to 1940). Illustrates how the perceptions give rise to a definition of the region as an entity with an identity, spirit and personality internal to itself.
