La Fascinante Revelación De Las Formas Esquemáticas Precolombinas, Luz Helena Ballestas Rincón
La Fascinante Revelación De Las Formas Esquemáticas Precolombinas, Luz Helena Ballestas Rincón
Congreso internacional sobre iconografía precolombina, Barcelona, 2019. Actas.

Representaciones Del Ave E Instrumentos Rituales Tiwanakotas. Medios Para Llegar A Lo Divino, Elisa Cont
Congreso internacional sobre iconografía precolombina, Barcelona, 2019. Actas.

Oficiantes Mochica Medio En San José De Moro: El Sacerdote Lechuza Y La Sacerdotisa, Karim Ruiz Rosell
Congreso internacional sobre iconografía precolombina, Barcelona, 2019. Actas.

Ancestral Pueblo Pottery: Cataloguing, Curation, Mount-Making And More, Elizabeth A. Jennings
Ursidae: The Undergraduate Research Journal at the University of Northern Colorado
Ancestral Pueblo pottery is some of the most renowned pottery of its kind in North America, yet outside of the archaeology and art history communities its beauty and complexity is not well known. The University of Northern Colorado has a vast and remarkable collection of artifacts, predominately comprised of Native American pottery and ceramics. This collection was not previously widely accessible, partially because it was not published. The purpose of my research was to create an exhibition highlighting this collection of Ancestral Pueblo pottery in Michener Library at University of Northern Colorado, as well as an interactive touch screen kiosk …

Nazi-Confiscated Art: Eliminating Legal Barriers To Returning Stolen Treasures, Stephanie J. Beach
Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review
World War II ended over three-quarters of a century ago, but there still remain prisoners of war. Before and during the war, the Nazis confiscated approximately 650,000 works of art—an “art theft” orchestrated by Adolf Hitler to rid society of Jewish art and artists and to collect worthy works to build his own art capital. Seventy-five years later, looted Holocaust-era artworks are still either undiscovered or in the possession of museums across the globe without proper ownership attribution or payment to Holocaust survivors or their heirs. There are modern remedies, such as the 1998 Washington Conference on Holocaust Era Assets, …

Figurillas Masculinas Con Atributos De Rango, Del Centro De México, Durante El Formativo, Patricia Ochoa Castillo
Congreso internacional sobre iconografía precolombina, Barcelona, 2019. Actas.

Tradiciones Plásticas Y Ontologías: Problemas En Torno Al Estudio De La Iconografía Del Período Medio Del No. Argentino, María Alba Bovisio
Congreso internacional sobre iconografía precolombina, Barcelona, 2019. Actas.

A Door Lintel With Cartouches At The Egyptian Museum (Je.59895), Bassem Mohamed Sayed
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
(En) This paper deals with a New Kingdom limestone door lintel from Medinet Habu, which is currently housed in the Cairo Museum. It bears three royal names of three kings of the New Kingdom; Amenophis I, Thutmosis IV and Ramsses II, who were worshiped as local deities at Deir El-Medina because of their roles in establishing and developing the Valley of the Kings and the society of artists and workers at Deir El-Medina. There is no owner’s name on this door lintel, but from the royal names we can assume that it was made after the reign of Ramses II. …

Imaging The Great Irish Famine: Representing Dispossession In Visual Culture, Preface & Introduction, Niamh Ann Kelly
Imaging The Great Irish Famine: Representing Dispossession In Visual Culture, Preface & Introduction, Niamh Ann Kelly
Books/Book Chapters
‘Niamh Ann Kelly's lavishly illustrated book throws new light on the visual culture commemorative of hunger, famine and dispossession in mid-nineteenth-century Ireland. Located within the discipline of International Memorial Studies, the text and images both challenge and extend our understanding of Famine history. Examining the visual culture since the time of the Famine until the present, Kelly asks, how do we view, experience and represent the past in the present? To what extent does the viewer insert themselves in this complex process? Is there such a thing as ethical spectatorship? Kelly’s sophisticated yet sympathetic study of the “grievous history” …

What Is A Museum? Difference All The Way Down, Fiona Candlin, Jamie Larkin
Art Faculty Articles and Research
The Mapping Museums research team recently compiled a dataset of UK museums. In doing so, we had to decide what counted as a museum. In this paper, we outline our initial approaches for establishing the criteria for selection: using definitions; key characteristics; and self-identification; and describe why they proved inadequate with respect to the heterogeneity of museum practice. We then explain how assemblage theory helped us conceptualise the complex realities of the museum sector and to address the problem of selection, which in turn led to our developing a non-essentialising model of museums and a new account of the UK …
The Fabric Of Gifts: Culture And Politics Of Giving And Exchange In Archaic Greece, Beate Wagner-Hasel
The Fabric Of Gifts: Culture And Politics Of Giving And Exchange In Archaic Greece, Beate Wagner-Hasel
Zea E-Books Collection
When the Greek leader Agamemnon took for himself the woman awarded to Achilles as his spoils of battle, the warrior’s resulting anger and outrage nearly cost his side the war. Beyond the woman herself was what she symbolised — a matter of esteem rather than material value. In Archaic Greece the practices of gift giving existed alongside an economy of market relations. The value of gifts and the meanings of exchange in ancient societies are fundamental to the debates of 19th-century economists, to Marcel Mauss’s famous Essai sur le don (1923-4), and to the definition of experiential value by modern …
Blood On The Floor: Public Memory, Myth, And Material Culture In American Historic House Museums, Alyssa B. Caltabiano
Blood On The Floor: Public Memory, Myth, And Material Culture In American Historic House Museums, Alyssa B. Caltabiano
Theses and Dissertations
This research examines the historic narratives of the Hancock House Historic Site, The Jennie Wade House Museum, and the Shriver House Museum, analyzing the historical accuracy of each. Each site has used historic human bloodstains and other elements of material culture, authentic and fabricated, to facilitate and support their historic narratives. The traditional Hancock House narrative, as well as the current Jennie Wade House narrative, are each sensationalized and riddled with myth and legend. The Shriver House represents a well-researched and interpreted narrative, that tastefully uses historic human bloodstains as an element of their interpretation. The evolution of each site …
