This bibliography is a supplement to an earlier one that was published in the Bulletin of Bibliography. Holocaust denial is a body of literature that seeks to prove that the Jewish Holocaust did not happen. This bibliography includes both works about Holocaust denial and works of Holocaust denial.

Publications and Research

Rather than censoring Holocaust deniers, some individuals have decided to refute their absurd claims with facts, illustrating how the Internet can police itself without restricting speech. Kenneth McVay started doing that in 1991, and his efforts developed into the Nizkor Project.

Born in Belorussia in 1836, S. Y. Abramovitsh was the founding father of modern Yiddish fiction. His stories and novels depict small-town Jewish life i nthe Russian Pale of Settlement through the hilarious, satiric, and sympathetic tales of his alter ego/narrator, Mendele the Book Peddler ("Mendele Moykher Sforim"). This itinerant peddler, who travels the Pale collecting good stories, was so closely identified with Abramovitsh's fiction that "Mendele" became the author's pen name.

Beginning with James Parkes and Jules Isaac, and continuing even until this day, extensive effort has been focused on the issue of Christian-Jewish relations. The Holocaust is a topic central to those reflections. This is due to the general acceptance of the thesis that, in some fashion, Christianity can be described as having contributed to the Holocaust. To appreciate that thesis one need only consider Hitler's own remarks, made at the 1933 Concordat Conference, "I am only continuing the work of the Catholic Church: to isolate the Jews and fight their influence." To mark May 7, 1995, the day on which a library suite is being dedicated to honor Msgr. Oesterreicher's memory, the Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies has published this English version entitled, The Tears of God.

I went to Augsburg, Germany, this summer for an accounting research project and for a broader purpose — to get to know contemporary Germans and to learn how they think, especially about the Jewish people. I have always felt a tension between my feelings about Germany and those about being Jewish. In high school and college in the late 1950s and early 1960s, as I studied the German language, I developed a great respect for German culture. Holocaust-Denial Literature In Public Libraries: An Investigation Of Public Librarians' Attitudes Regarding Acquisition And Access, John A. Drobnicki, Carol R. Goldman, Trina R. Knight, Johanna V. Thomas

This study was undertaken to learn about public librarians' attitudes and opinions concerning the sometimes conflicting issues of intellectual freedom, collection balance, and controversial materials. The investigation focused on Holocaust-denial literature, a body of work which tries to dispute or deny outright the historical reality of the Holocaust. The results, while ambiguous in some areas, indicate that librarians are more open to Holocaust-revisionist literature than had been predicted and, regardless of outside pressures, would acquire and provide ready access to this material in their libraries.

Holocaust deniers masquerade their hate behind a scholarly veneer, making a mockery of the historical record, and their lies should be confronted and exposed. Kenneth McVay amassed an archive of online materials to counter and challenge Holocaust revisionists. McVay's website later became known as the Nizkor Project.

Religiosity, Fears Of Personal Death, And The Acceptability Of Suicide Within Reformed, Conservative, And Orthodox Jews, Lawrence B. Stein

One hundred and fifty adults completed the Gladding, Lewis, and Adkins Scale of Religiosity (GLASR), Fears of Personal Death Scale (FPDS), and the Suicide Acceptability Scale (SAS) to investigate the relationships between religiosity, fears of personal death, and suicide acceptability within the Reformed, Conservative, and Orthodox Jewish denominations. Differences between the Jewish denominations were detected such that Orthodox Jews were less fearful of transpersonal death than Conservative individuals. However, no differences existed between Jewish denominations for interpersonal or intrapersonal fears of death. Results also indicate that Reformed Jews were less religious and more accepting of suicide than Orthodox individuals with …

Throughout American history, America's Jews lived in a mixed environment, one that both offered them the possibility of acceptance and demanded a certain level of conformity as its price. While antisemitism in America neither reached the level of virulence nor enjoyed the official sanction that it did in other parts of the world, it nonetheless has almost always been a part of the American Jewish experience, especially during the first half of the twentieth century. The notion of commodification refers to the degree to which the individual is dependent upon the market for the satisfaction of his economic and social needs. The welfare state has been described as having a decommodifying influence in that it provides the individual with the means to maintain a reasonable standard of living while not working. An examination of the Israeli Kibbutz is undertaken in order to understand the workings of an extreme case of decommodification. Holocaust-denial is a body of work that seeks to prove that the Jewish Holocaust did not happen. Although not all of the deniers, who prefer to call themselves "revisionists" in an attempt to gain scholarly legitimacy, make the same claims, they all share at least one point: that there was no systematic attempt by Nazi Germany to exterminate European Jewry. This bibliography includes both works about Holocaust denial and works of Holocaust denial.

Although historical revision is a valid practice, Holocaust revisionism is based on deliberate fabrications of the historical record and does not reinterpret a past event. This article presents a detailed look at an individual Jew's contributions to Brownsville and the adjacent border area. It illustrates the need for more local studies of a biographical nature to add to our knowledge of Jewish Texans. Research into related topics, such as the role of lay rabbis in maintaining Jewish religious life in other small towns in the Southwest and the degree to which Jewish immigrants entered the mainstream of community life in America, is also needed.
