The dissertation argues for a conception of group rights based on Habermasian discourse theory, as an alternative to the dominant multicultural liberal approach to group rights, which treats group rights as instrumental to individual rights.

Наступил завершающий этап выполнения «Государственной программы развития и функционирования языков в Республике Казахстан (2001‐2010 гг.)» – документа, на десятилетие определившего стратегию, приоритеты и основные направления языковой политики1, охарактеризованной стремлением соответствовать потребностям полиэтнического населения страны, учитывать особенности языковой, демографической и политической ситуации, сохранить стабильность межэтнических и межъязыковых отношений. Целью языковой политики стало целенаправленное воздействие на главные составляющие языковой ситуации (сложившейся еще в советский период, когда языковая политика была частью общегосударственной политики по созданию советского народа с единым русским языком), языковое планирование стало осуществляться по трем стратегическим направлениям: расширение сфер употребления и функций государственного языка, сохранение функций русского языка, развитие других языков …

Patricia Cardoso’s Real Women Have Curves (2002) opened to widespread critical acclaim and moderate commercial success, garnering two awards at the Sundance film festival for its starring actors América Ferrara and Lupe Ontiveros for their roles as Ana, the film’s protagonist and Carmen, her mother. Based on Josefina López’s play of the same name, the cinematic adaptation directed by Patricia Cardoso, and written by López in collaboration with producer George Lavoo, the film was the first theatrical release from HBO films. This report presents current and future needs of neighborhood residents and analyzes the challenges facing the multi-ethnic, low-income Koreatown community in Los Angeles. For the thousands of low-income residents of Los Angeles's Koreatown, the economic hardships brought on by the recent subprime mortgage housing and financial crises are not new. In the words of a Koreatown resident, "....the housing 'crisis' has been a crisis for us for a long time." Well before the current recession, Koreatown residents were complaining of increased housing costs due to the influx of upscale luxury housing units that replaced affordable housing units.
