William Shea was my teacher for two academic years at the Catholic University of America, 1978-80. He had a profound influence on me in several ways, one of which was introducing me to the work of Bernard Lonergan. He directed the first major paper I wrote in the field of theology, which later appeared as an article in The Thomist. Sometime shortly after my 1984 dissertation became available, a study that focused on the topic of belief and truth in the works of Lonergan and of Wilfred Cantwell Smith, Shea read it. What might the 18^th century English Methodism connected with John Wesley might have to offer contemporary Roman Catholics? What is the relationship between organizations and movements? What are the possibilities for dual identities and membership? Wesley intentionally envisioned and fashioned the Methodist movement as an ecumenical endeavor. His approach anticipated key points made in Vatican II’s “Decree on Ecumenism.” Although Wesley remained highly critical of Roman Catholicism throughout his life, many of the positions he advocated tended in a “catholic” direction.

Should states use force to bring about regime change? International law recognizes no such grounds. This paper seeks to provide guidance from moral theory. The aim of this paper is to identify the moral grounds for the use of armed force by one state or a group of states, against another state, when the intention of the intervening states is to achieve a fundamental change in the character of the political and legal institutions of the other state. Lawyers tend to place the argument for regime change intervention within putative humanitarian intervention doctrines. The moral justification for humanitarian intervention is …

Can theology be taught successfully in the online environment? This article will draw upon theoretical literature and the author’s practical experience in answering that question. Along the way, this article will discuss the various motivations for teaching theology online and acknowledge the opportunities presented by the online medium. It shall address conceptual shifts prompted by online education such as the shift from correspondence to distance to open education. The article will then discuss evolving teaching practices and methods. Is Christian belief justified, rational or warranted? The search for a response is the heart of the de jure challenge. The very search itself can be perilous as it can fall into reduction, apologetics or even ‘lite’ analytic, doxastic practices. IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority

The IAA excavations at Tel Moẓa, just outside Jerusalem, were initiated due to the relocation of the Jerusalem–Tel Aviv Highway, which stood to destroy all the antiquities along the new route. During three excavation seasons (1993, 2002–2003), 16 strata were defined, spanning the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period to the Ottoman period (the extensive Prehistoric finds are published elsewhere). This volume describes the finds from the Early Bronze Age onward, describing the pottery, glyptics and inscriptions, groundstone assemblages and other small finds. An outstanding discovery was a large silo complex of Iron IIB, leading the excavators to the interpretation that during this …
