Laurence Bernard-Pradelle’s Leonardo Bruni Aretino: Histoire, e´loquence et poe´sie a` Florence au de´but du Quattrocento seeks to broaden Bruni’s appeal among readers of French. Toward this end, the book offers an extensive introduction to the life and works of Leonardo Bruni. It also includes new Latin editions of several of Bruni’s shorter works with facing-page French translations. The book concludes with a lengthy bibliography. The volume’s primary interest for readers of English will be Bernard-Pradelle’s detailed and learned analysis of Bruni’s sources for the texts published in the volume

Broadcasters around the world are in desperate need to automate content production as much as possible. Emotional Speech Corpus Creation, Structure, Distribution And Re-Use, Brian Vaughan, Charlie Cullen

Abstract This paper details the on-going creation of a natural emotional speech corpus, its structure, distribution, and re-use. Using Mood Induction Procedures (MIPs), high quality emotional speech assets are obtained, analysed, tagged (for acoustic features), annotated and uploaded to an online speech corpus. This method structures the corpus in a logical and coherent manner, allowing it to be utilized for more than one purpose, ensuring distribution via a URL and ease of access through a web browser.

Musical Formalism And Political Performances, Jonathan A. Neufeld
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
Musical formalism, which strictly limits the type of thing any description of the music can tell us, is ill-equipped to account for contemporary performance practice. If performative interpretations are in a position to tell us something about musical works—that is if performance is a kind of description, as Peter Kivy argues—then we have to loosen the restrictions on notions of musical relevance to make sense of performance. I argue that musical formalism, which strictly limits the type of thing any description of the music can tell us, is inconsistent with Kivy's quite compelling account of performance. Organized in 1901, the Anti-Saloon League of Virginia (ASLVA) became the leading statewide association in battling the liquor forces. The league claimed to be nonpartisan and nonpolitical; its motto was "The saloon must go."3 A variety of white Protestant clergy and laymen staffed the ASLVA, and these leaders kept up a unified front as they promoted their sale stated goal, the eradication of the saloon.
