Effects Of An Interdisciplinary Method For Training Conductors, Donald J. Running

This study investigated effects of a method designed to enhance novice conductors’ musical expressiveness, specificity, and comfort through incorporation of acting exercises. Participants (N = 33) were divided into an experimental group receiving instruction in physical acting exercises and a control group receiving traditional conducting instruction. Pretest/posttest questionnaires and pretest/posttest video excerpts assessed by a panel of experts were employed to assess changes in participants’ abilities and attitudes. Results indicate that both the experimental method and traditional method have positive effects on the ability of the conductors to utilize and perform expressive conducting gestures (p < .01). No significant interactions were found between the control and experimental groups; both experimental and traditional methods seemed to allow for student growth equally.

This paper will proceed in multiple sections that examine aspects of Pan-Africanism and the inspired political resistance it created. Following the introduction, the first section will look at some of the early actions of resistance by Africans in America and their attempt to connect their fate with the fate of continental Africans. The beginnings of Pan-African meetings. The third section will look at the early formations of anti-colonial resistance in the Gold Coast and the establishment of "proto-nationalism". Unveiling Raphaelle Peale's "Venus Rising From The Sea -- A Deception", Lauren K. Lessing, Mary Schafer

New technical information uncovered by conservator Mary Schafer has revealed an earlier, unfinished composition beneath the margins of Raphaelle Peale’s circa 1822 trompe l’oeil painting “Venus Rising from the Sea—a Deception.” The earlier version of the painting featured a partial copy of Charles Willson Peale’s 1817 portrait of Raphaelle seemingly concealed behind the same white kerchief that now appears to hide a copy of James Barry’s 1772 painting “The Birth of Venus.” Schafer and art historian Lauren Lessing reinterpret Peale’s painting in light of these findings, describing its complex nature as both a physical object and a dark visual joke.

In this paper, I seek to understand who Jesus is, through the lenses of “jun-zi 君子” (best translated as gentleman), a discussion and comparison between the concept of personhood of the jun-zi in Confucianism perspectives and the story of Jesus in the New Testament, I believe there is the possibility and implication to present an excellent image of Jesus the Christ as a jun-zi within Confucian personhood. Jesus, his ethical norm, high moral standard and religious life are like Confucian jun-zi. If we evangelize or evaluate the concepts of traditional Chinese Confucian jun-zi, Jesus would appear as a …
