Muhlenberg County Heritage

“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.

Vigorous consumption is the sign of a prosperous and confident society. Some critics, however, find a high level of consumption morally objectionable. To see what is valid in these objections, one needs to understand the connection between consumption and the characteristic pattern of technology that is highlighted by the device paradigm and gives rise to paradigmatic consumption. Such consumption induces disengagement from reality and a decline of excellence. The response to these debilities is to accept paradigmatic consumption in some areas of life and to make room for focal things and practices in others. Research is needed to determine the …

Poverty Among Pacific Islanders In The United States: Incidence, Change, And Correlates, Dennis A. Ahlburg

Pacific Studies

Although poverty in the United States increased over the 1980s, it decreased for Pacific Islanders. But the incidence and severity of Pacific Islander poverty remained greater than that of other Americans. Poverty among Pacific Islanders declined because their attachment to the labor market increased, as did average education and work experience. The article shows that remittances may increase the poverty of some sending households and plunge other households into poverty. Also, the poverty of elderly and single-female-headed Pacific Islander households is so severe that increased welfare and Social Security payments do not lift them out of poverty. Raised are a …

Tumultuous and momentous events occurred in the United States between 1865 and 1873. Dominating the political arena was the end of the nation's bloody civil war and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, followed by the struggle over Reconstruction and the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson. In the middle of this ferment stirred the impressive figure of Salmon P. Chase, who served as chief justice of the Supreme Court from 1864 to 1873.

The document is what is called in grants biz a "questions letter," one of the many ways in which grants analysts attempt to help applicants.
