The following pages include a combination of scholarly research and fieldwork pertaining to the Africanization of Christianity, specifically the relationship between Christianity and culture in the Ghanaian village of Krobo-Odumase. Chapter One outlines a brief history of Christianity in Africa, followed by Chapters Two and Three which contain more detailed histories of the Roman Catholic and Presbyterian Churches in Ghana. Special attention is given to Zimmermann Presbyterian Church and Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Krobo-Odurnase, where most ofthe study's fieldwork was conducted. She was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1942. Her father had been born in Turkey, but he moved to Italy and went to Egypt to escape the racial laws. Her mother's family was also from Turkey, but she was born in Egypt. In Alexandria her family lived a very cosmopolitan life, speaking French among themselves and hardly learning Arabic. Her great-grandmother's generation of women could not read or write, although the men generally went to the university. In 1947 they moved to Italy, and in 1953 to Argentina. The strange mixtures of opposites in the south often provide a fast-moving culture not easily recognized or categorized. The opposition to Christianity does not often deal specifically with Jesus Christ, the New Testament, or other Christian philosophies. Rather, the Christianity in conflict is usually symbolized by the church, a preacher, or other Christian rituals and traditions. Thus, it is the system of Christianity that is in conflict with many of the characters’ freedom, not necessarily the philosophy of Christianity. The struggles against religion in Ernest J. Our culture today faces a crisis with our young women. Between the ages of ten and fifteen, young women attempt to define their identities under societal pressure, and in the midst of sometimes overwhelmingly dysfunctional families. F̲r̲o̲n̲t̲i̲e̲r̲s̲ is a play that deals with these issues.

The Long Road Home, a short prose epic, concerns the adventure and political coming-of-age of two sixteen-year-old boys, Dean and Blake. The boys hitchhike from their hometown of Pittsburgh to Greensboro, North Carolina in order to attend a march against the Ku Klux Klan. Dean and Blake are politically idealistic and naïve boys who learn a lot about the complexities of race relations in America on their adventure. The boys encounter a variety of people on their trip and in Greensboro, some of whom are hostile, friendly, indifferent, deceptive, generous, and downright strange.

This thesis examines the notion of autobiography as presented in Carmen Martin Gaite's novel El cuarto de atras. I propose that the novel is intended not to be read as a straightforward autobiography, rather, the reader is invited to consider the autobiographical elements that function on various levels within a fictional mode. Although events from the author's childhood and adolescence are included in the novel, they are recounted through the use of a fictional protagonist.

By analyzing the narratological fabric that comprises the text, I show how the framework of the fictional mode provides a background for the various …

The following study presents the stages of the intersynodical debate that led the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod to exit the Ev. Lutheran Synodical Conference during the thirty years, 1931-61.Official source material is abundant. The synod's theological journal has presented a consistent viewpoint regarding the Scouting movement, the military chaplaincy, applications of the synod's teachings regarding church fellowship, and the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible, all of which played key roles in Wisconsin's exit.
