The Origin And The Development Of The Welfare Of The Holy Family, Sister M. Catherine Walto Ssf
The Origin And The Development Of The Welfare Of The Holy Family, Sister M. Catherine Walto Ssf
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis, submitted to the faculty of Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1933, surveys the social welfare, educational, and spiritual activities of the Sisters of the Holy Family, a Catholic religious congregation of African American women founded in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1842. Drawing on institutional records, community documents, and the author's own twenty-five years of experience with the congregation, the study chronicles the development of the Sisters' welfare activities across three areas. Part I examines social activities including the Lafon Old Folks Home, Saint John Berchmans Girls' Orphanage, …

The Theme Of The Sermon, J. H. Fritz
The Theme Of The Sermon, J. H. Fritz
Concordia Theological Monthly
The theme of the sermon is a proposition, or a statement, expressed in a few words. Yet Phelps, in his book of well-nigh six hundred pages, The Theory of Preaching, devotes eighty-two pages (pp. 282-364:) to a discussion of the proposition, or the theme, of the sermon: its definition, necessity, substance, and form. Why? Because of the importance of the sermon theme. The theme is the sermon in nuce; the sermon is the theme unfolded, or developed.

Exodus 6, 3 B. Was God Known To The Patriarchs As Jehovah?, L. Aug. Herrboth

“But by My name Jehovah was I not known to them.'' This statement, as it appears in our English and German Bibles, seems to contradict other passages of Holy Writ. The context, vv. 2-5, reads as follows: “And God spake unto Moses and said unto him, I am the Lord [Jehovah]; and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob by the name of God Almighty, but by My name Jehovah was I not known to them. And I have also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein …
What Is Meant By "All Fulness," Col. 1, 19?, L. T. Wohllfeil
What Is Meant By "All Fulness," Col. 1, 19?, L. T. Wohllfeil
Concordia Theological Monthly
The Authorized Version translates: "For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell," while the Revised Version renders it: "For it was the good pleasure of the Father that in Him should all the fulness dwell.''
Whom has “it pleased"? This is not expressly stated in this verse if one translates as does the Authorized Version, the Revised Version, the Vulgate, and Luther.
Buchmanism, Theo. Graebner
Buchmanism, Theo. Graebner
Concordia Theological Monthly
Why should a movement that in many respects does not differ from the revivalism of the eighties and earlier decades cause as much commotion as the activities of the Oxford Group, or Buchmanism? What is its message? What are its practices? What, if any, are its merits?
This article contemplates no detailed historical analysis of the movement) but would treat it as of 1933, reserving a more complete discussion for a later issue, if it shall be deemed necessary.

Bachelors’ Theses
Benedict, "The Blessed One", by grace and name, was indeed a man of venerable life. From the very time of his boyhood he guarded his heart like an aged person. Though regulating his manner of living according to the custom of his state, his heart never gave way to passion. Even while still in the world, where he was able to temporal things freely, he already looked down upon this barren earth with tears.
Born of noble parentage in the district of Nursia, Benedict was brought to Rome for the study of letters. Noticing, while there, that many of his …
An Historic Account Of Music Criticism And Music Critics In Utah, Basil Hansen
An Historic Account Of Music Criticism And Music Critics In Utah, Basil Hansen
Theses and Dissertations
My purpose in making a study of music criticism in Utah is to realize a reliable historical account of criticism as expressed by means of journals and the growth of music within the state. This study, it is granted, is not a complete history of music in Utah. It merely treats one phase of a yet unwritten history.
A secondary interest is to defend the assertion that Utah has had music criticism and not to eulogize or deride the music pioneers of the state. It may also impress the need of constructive criticism to insure the stimulus and incentive necessary …
