Exploring The Construct Of Social Integration In A Community College Environment, Scott Mertes
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Among current retention models, Tinto’s Interactionalist Model has reached near paradigmatic status. When his model has been applied to two-year college settings, the social integration results have been inconsistent. This has led Maxwell (2000) and Deil-Amen (2011) to suggest that a different construct of social integration exists in community colleges, and that this construct may not be related to the traditional construct of social integration in four-year university settings. Tolerance As Civility In Contemporary Workplace Diversity Initiatives, C. W. Von Bergen, George Collier
Administrative Issues Journal
Valuing diversity emphasizes the awareness, recognition, understanding, and appreciation of human differences and revolves around creating an inclusive environment in which everyone feels esteemed. This generally takes place through a series of management education and training programs that attempt to improve interpersonal relationships among workers by asking participants to become more tolerant—generally understood today as an approval and acceptance of others’ practices, opinions, and beliefs. Because tolerance is such a highly desirable quality in U.S. society, and seemingly one of its few non-controversial values, rarely is its significance questioned. Nevertheless, contemporary interpretations of tolerance may be problematic for multicultural programs. …

Office of Community Partnerships Posters
This study is a research-policy partnership. This study used workforce registry (n=55,768) and professional development attendance data to examine early educator characteristics and patterns of professional development participation in one state.
In the paper, we describe how these new workforce data can inform professional development. We present the concept of density in professional development participation, discuss its potential benefits, and highlight the utility of state-wide digital tracking of early educators’ patterns of professional development for informing policy. We suggest that professional development policy can impact professional development participation density, and can thus be used intentionally to promote investments that have …
