In today's modern development profession, the threat of turnover looms over college campuses from creating lasting relationships with donors, leading to repeat gifts. By examining the contributors to turnover, this writing reveals opportunities for fundraising divisions to mitigate this threat by investing in their talent and thus increasing intrinsic value.

Black Students In Higher Education: An Identification Of Factors Predicting Academic Success, Franklin A. Soares

The quantitative study was an ex-post-facto study design to explore specific factors and their magnitude that predicts the successful matriculation toward and achievement of a bachelor’s degree by Black students enrolled at a PWI in the deep South. The researcher pursued to explore the direction and magnitude that fall into the following three categories on several measures the matriculation progress toward and deficit of a bachelor’s degree: student demographics characteristics, socio-economic background and economic status, and pre-and post-admission academic readiness and performance. To explore the effect of volunteering on philanthropic giving to U.S. higher education, the study considered the giving rates of first-time alumni participants in an alumni-student career mentor program as measured over three periods: the year prior to their first year as a mentor, their first year as a mentor, and the year following their first year as a mentor. Using a repeated measure ANOVA statistical method, the study sought to determine if there is a statistically significant variance in the giving rates of these volunteers across the three measures. Legislators’ Perceptions Of Public University Student Lobbying Efforts On Public Higher Education Legislation: A Case Study, James J. Krotz, Lisa M. Rubin

College students have a legitimate interest in many policy issues that affect their campuses, but are they effective in lobbying their state representatives for their interests? Elected members of the Kansas state legislature were surveyed to determine if student lobbyists were effective in influencing legislator’s decision-making on matters of public higher education policy in Kansas. Interest group theory was utilized as a lens to view results of legislator perceptions. Findings suggested that 70% of legislator participants never altered their view on an issue after meeting with a college student lobbyist. This article critically explores the understandings about the English academic literacy needs of international graduate students from the perspective of academic teaching staff in a Faculty of Education at a large Australian university. Research suggests that international graduate students for whom English is another language, on coming to English speaking countries, acquire English academic literacies as part of a complex set of academic competencies needed for successful graduate study.
