Desafíos Teatrales Al Mal Metafísico: El Hombre Deshabitado De Rafael Alberti Y La Muerte De César Vallejo., Ilka Kressner 2013 University at Albany, State University of New York

Desafíos Teatrales Al Mal Metafísico: El Hombre Deshabitado De Rafael Alberti Y La Muerte De César Vallejo., Ilka Kressner

Languages, Literatures and Cultures Faculty Scholarship

Observaciones Sobre El Estado Del Sonido Fricativo Palatal Sordo En El Español Salvadoreño., Alexander Quintanilla 2013 Butler University

Observaciones Sobre El Estado Del Sonido Fricativo Palatal Sordo En El Español Salvadoreño., Alexander Quintanilla

Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS

In this work I discuss the current situation in the Spanish of El Salvador of the voiceless fricative palatal sound. The presence of this sound in Pipil, an orginal language already spoken in El Salvador before the Spaniards arrived, favored its maintenance in Salvadoran Spanish. Since Pipil is a language in extinction, some authors believe that this sound is also disappearing in Salvadoran Spanish. However, Pipil is not the only language with this sound that influences Salvadoran Spanish. Thus, we examine the linguistic distribution of this sound in El Salvador, the possible reasons of its maintenance and its implications for …

Learning Context Matters: Communication Strategy Development Through Spanish Interaction, Sonya Hildebrand

Lewis Honors College Capstone Collection

University studies in the Spanish language are often times confined to the classroom. However, more and more programs have been implementing civic engagement in the Hispanic community into the curriculum to create a service-learning experience. This study sought to determine the effectiveness of service-learning in enhancing communication techniques. Twenty undergraduate students at the University of Kentucky were surveyed at the onset and the conclusion of one semester while simultaneously serving the Hispanic community. The students, on average, increased the frequency of communication techniques after a semester of service-learning. Students who participate in a service-learning program often times see a result …

Aplicación Pedagógica De La Lingüística De Corpus A Una Clase De Gramática Avanzada De Español Como Segunda Lengua, Yanira B. Paz 2013 University of Kentucky

Aplicación Pedagógica De La Lingüística De Corpus A Una Clase De Gramática Avanzada De Español Como Segunda Lengua, Yanira B. Paz

Hispanic Studies Faculty Publications

La Integracion De Jose Donoso A La Platforma Del Boom: Intercambio Epistolar Inedito De Jose Donoso Con Emir Rodriguez Monegal Y Carlos Fuentes En La Decada Del 60, Maria Laura Bocaz-Leiva

Modern Languages & Literatures Articles

El Uso Del Perfecto En Secuencias Narrativas En El Español Peruano Amazónico: El Caso De Jeberos, Margarita Jara Yupanqui, Pilar M. Valenzuela

Department of World Languages Faculty Research

Naturalism, Murder, And Identity In Three Short Stories Of Ramon Ferreira, Haley Lee Osborn 2013 Loyola University Chicago

Naturalism, Murder, And Identity In Three Short Stories Of Ramon Ferreira, Haley Lee Osborn

Master's Theses

The aim of this paper is to compare the rhetorical functions gathered from the citations of (14) fourteen master´s theses written by seven Spanish and seven Philippine authors. A typology of nine categories was used in order to identify the cultural rhetorical differences that exist in the use of citation from the contrast between contrasting this element in the Philippine and Spanish cultures. Experimental Poetry In Four Authors : Tablada, De Campos, Padin And Brossa, Emilia Sciarra-Laos 2013 University at Albany, State University of New York

Experimental Poetry In Four Authors : Tablada, De Campos, Padin And Brossa, Emilia Sciarra-Laos

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

The purpose of this work is to investigate and elaborate on the experimental poetry work of four authors: José Juan Tablada (Mexico), Haroldo de Campos (Brazil), Clemente Padín (Uruguay), and Joan Brossa (Spain-Catalonia), identifying commonalities and differences between them. Tablada and de Campos share the influence of the Chinese ideogram and Mallarmé's innovative poetic propositions. Another similarity between them is their work in translating or transcreating (a term coined by the Noigandres group) literary texts. With respect to Padín and Brossa, their commonalities reside in their need to openly express social and political views against totalitarian regimes in their countries. …

Historia Y Proyectos: Un Análisis Del Silencio En Lengua Madre De María Teresa Andruetto, Karina Elizabeth Vázquez 2013 University of Richmond

Historia Y Proyectos: Un Análisis Del Silencio En Lengua Madre De María Teresa Andruetto, Karina Elizabeth Vázquez

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

María Rosa Lida Y El Control De La Posteridad: O De Cómo Rafael Lapesa Reseñó La Originalidad Artistica De "La Celestina", Aurora Hermida-Ruiz

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

The King's Toilet: Cruising Literary History In Reinaldo Arenas' Before Night Falls, Lázaro Lima 2013 University of Richmond

The King's Toilet: Cruising Literary History In Reinaldo Arenas' Before Night Falls, LáZaro Lima

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

In this article I will read Before Night Falls as Arenas' queer version of Cuban literary history and his relation to it. Against the commonplace assertions that demand that Before Night Falls be primarily understood, if not exclusively, as an invective against Fidel Castro or, in the other extreme, as an ars moriendi and AIDS testimonial from a sexual dissident, I wish to revisit this text on the twentieth anniversary of its publication to underscore a missed reading that can help situate how Arenas, one of the most transgressive writers theorized in this collection as the Generation of '72, might …

"Por Un Clavo Se Pierde Un Reino": Alfonso Reyes, The Generation Of 1927, And The Imperial Appropriation Of Góngora, Aurora Hermida-Ruiz 2013 University of Richmond

"Por Un Clavo Se Pierde Un Reino": Alfonso Reyes, The Generation Of 1927, And The Imperial Appropriation Of Góngora, Aurora Hermida-Ruiz

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

The displacement of Alfonso Reyes to the periphery of “nuestro centenario” highlights some of the major questions concerning the Generation of 1927 and its impact on the modern appreciation of Góngora and the definition of gongorismo. Considering that Rubén Darío was widely perceived to be the origin of the modern cult of Góngora in Spanish, the stature of Alfonso Reyes as “primer gongorista de las nuevas generaciones” meant a new form of primacy that clearly pointed to the dominance of Latin America in the narrative of contemporary poetics. Thanks to Foulché, who had carefully made his own discovery of …
