Many philosophers and thinkers have considered the idea of community and what makes it strong, beneficial, and enduring. The Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle is no exception. Aristotle wrote thoroughly on the nature of the ideal community, which he observed in Greek city-states. Called a “polis”, this ideal community, according to Aristotle, is one that provides for its residents to live a good life above all else. This essay identifies an early modern aesthetic that mobilizes the mundane to make a point about the world or the grandiose. Through a close reading of the poetry in the travelogues of the 17th-century Ottoman Damascene scholar ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Nābulusī (d. 1143/1731), this essay identifies, theorizes, and historicizes early modern Arabic circumstantial verse—what the 19th-century French poet Stéphane Mallarmé calls vers de circonstance. By drawing on Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of the “chronotope,” this essay shows how the poetry in Nābulusī’s travelogues fits within, and sometimes advances, their linear narrative. جاءت هذه الدراسة البحثية لبيان غاية القتال، ودور التعارض والترجيح في بيان أحكام الأسرى، في القرآن الكريم، والسنة النبوية الشريفة، وذلك من خلال التأصيل لغاية القتال في الإسلام، وإزالة التعارض الظاهري بين النصوص المتعلقة بالأسرى.

وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن اختلاف العلماء في حكم الأسرى كان تبعًا لاختلافهم في إزالة التعارض بين النصوص الشرعية. وأن تطبيق قواعد التعارض فيه ذب عن السنة النبوية الشريفة، وإعمال لها. وأن تطبيق هذه القواعد وفق مقاصد الشريعة الإسلامية هو الضمانة لعدم استخدام ذوي الفكر المتطرف للنصوص على غير الوجه المقصود منها.
