Milton: Politics Of Desire And Dispossession, Sawyer K. Kemp 2024 CUNY Queens College

Milton: Politics Of Desire And Dispossession, Sawyer K. Kemp

Open Educational Resources

In this course we will study John Milton’s most famous poem, Paradise Lost, alongside a selection of his major verse and prose works. Milton’s literary projects were inextricably political, and we will wade into the discourse of his legacy as either—or both—state propagandist or public scholar. We will discuss and explore Milton’s role in the charged political climate of the British Revolution of the 17th century, as well as his work on gender, marriage, divorce, the free press, sin, and heroism.

How do we read Milton’s work in our own political climates of unrest? How has deconstruction of …

The Use Of Space And Place In The Civil Rights Discourse Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Pamelia Adams

Communication Theses

This thesis, The Use of Space and Place in the Civil Rights Discourse of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., analyzes the academic literature on the social change agent. The study provides a deeper understanding of the relevance of place/location, where Dr. King delivered his civil rights message nationally and internationally. Three historically significant sites and the events impacting the civil rights movement, in the cities of Washington, D.C. and Birmingham, Alabama, are examined. The three sites included in Chapter 2: The Jail Site, Chapter 3: The Bombing Site, and Chapter 4: The March Sites as examples. The main findings of …

Print Culture In New York: The Essence Of The Benevolent Empire From 1816 To 1837, Merritt Morgan 2024 Liberty University

Print Culture In New York: The Essence Of The Benevolent Empire From 1816 To 1837, Merritt Morgan

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Print Culture in New York: The Essence of the Benevolent Empire from 1816 to 1837 is a story that places technological and organizational business innovations at the center of the American evangelical print culture of the "Benevolent Empire" during the Early Republic. After about 1815, during the "market revolution" (western expansion, eastern urbanization, and boom in trade and manufacturing), the business of benevolence boomed in religious publishing that inspired American merchants and prominent businessmen to consolidate hundreds of missionary, Bible, and tract societies. The consolidation process resulted in the creation of national benevolent societies that produced the first wave of …

Experiencing Gospel: Luther, Men, Women, And Children Around The Table In Reformation And Contemporary Eras; A Tribute To Gordon Jensen, Karen Kuhnert 2024 Wilfrid Laurier University

Experiencing Gospel: Luther, Men, Women, And Children Around The Table In Reformation And Contemporary Eras; A Tribute To Gordon Jensen, Karen Kuhnert

Consensus

Building primarily on Gordon A. Jensen’s text Experiencing Gospel: The History and Creativity of Martin Luther’s 1534 Bible Project (2023) and the work of Kirsi I. Stjerna et. al in Women Reformers of Early Modern Europe: Profiles, Texts, and Contexts (2022), this essay demonstrates that the theological legacies of knowable Reformation era men, women, and children (in their own cultural, geographic, and linguistic contexts) can be recognized as having crossed the Atlantic with explorers, settlers, and pioneers and that these theological legacies continue to shape North American religious-cultural contexts today. The combined depth and quality of the cited research from …

Review Of On The Resurrection: Evidences Volume 1, Brian G. Chilton 2024 Liberty University alumnus, Adjunct Professor at Carolina College of Biblical Studies

Review Of On The Resurrection: Evidences Volume 1, Brian G. Chilton

Liberty Theological Review

Dr. Brian Chilton reviews the first volume of Dr. Gary Habermas's magnum opus On the Resurrection: Evidences. Chilton summarizes Habermas's work, offering key themes found throughout the book. Then, he analyzes the methodology of the book and confronts the possible objections offered by popular naysayers of the minimal facts approach. Chilton ultimately deduces that the naysayers objections are overblown and that Habermas's approach stands on its own.

Timothy Keller: Champion For The City: Keller's Philosophy Of Urban Contextualization, Michael W. Cunningham 2024 Liberty University

Timothy Keller: Champion For The City: Keller's Philosophy Of Urban Contextualization, Michael W. Cunningham

Liberty Theological Review

Timothy Keller's 2023 passing serves as an occasion to consider his ministry legacy. His magnum opus, Center Church, encapsulated his philosophy of contextualization. This philosophy was rooted in a robust theology that informed and balanced missions, evangelism, and church planting. Keller's passion for city missions defied current ministry trends that favored suburbia and avoided urban contexts. His ministry conviction overcame cultural opposition and ministry bias and grew a thriving ministry in an unlikely ministry setting. Keller’s ministry captured the imagination of rising generations of pastors, missionaries, and ministry practitioners and provided the needed theological framework and training for successful …
