As is well known to contemporary scholarship and demonstrated by the works contained in the present volume, the Tibetan term zhentong (gzhan stong, being empty of other) refers not to any one unanimous view or system of thought but to a wide variety of philosophical theories formed primarily in India and Tibet. เรื่องเล่าราหูในสื่อสมัยใหม่ : การสร้างสรรค์และบทบาทในบริบทสังคมพุทธศาสนาไทย, ภัทรธรณ์ แสนพินิจ

วิทยานิพนธ์มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการสร้างสรรค์เรื่องเล่าราหูในสื่อสมัยใหม่และวิเคราะห์บทบาทในบริบทสังคมพุทธศาสนาไทย เรืองเล่าราหูในสื่อสมัยใหม่ที่ศึกษามีทั้งหมด 45 แหล่ง ทั้งจากสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ ได้แก่ หนังสือและนิตยสาร มี 17 แหล่ง และสื่อดิจิทัล ได้แก่ เว็บไซต์, เฟซบุ๊กและยูทูบ มี 28 แหล่ง ผลการศึกษาพบว่าเรื่องเล่าราหูในหนังสือรวบรวมเรื่องของราหูฉบับเต็มและเป็นแหล่งข้อมูลต้นตอของเรื่องเล่าราหูในสื่ออื่นๆ เรียบเรียงขึ้นใหม่โดยอิงกับตำนานราหูจากวรรณคดีพราหมณ์-ฮินดู, วรรณคดีพุทธศาสนา และวรรณกรรมไทยด้วยกลวิธี 3 แบบ ได้แก่ (1) ตัดต่อ, (2) ปรับเปลี่ยนเนื้อหาโดยการดัดแปลงกับขยายความ และ (3)สร้างเรื่งอเล่าขึ้นใหม่ การตัดต่อคือการเลือกตำนานสำคัญเพื่ออธิบายภูมิหลังและชูบทบาทของราหูในเรื่องเล่า ได้แก่ ตอนกำเนิดเทพนพเคราะห์และตอนบุพกรรมกับพระอาทิตย์และพระจันทร์จากเฉลิมไตรภพ, พระพุทธเจ้าทรมานราหูจากจันทิมสูตรและสุริยสูตร ราหูฟังธรรมและได้รับพุทธพยากรณ์จากอรรถกถาโสณทัณฑสูตร การปรับเปลี่ยนเนื้อหาคือการดัดแปลงตำนานที่มีอยู่เดิมมาอธิบายเพิ่มเติมเพื่อให้ราหูมีภาพลักษณ์ที่ดี เป็นเทพที่ควรได้รับการบูชาในพุทธศาสนา ตำนานที่ดัดแปลง ได้แก่ ตอนราหูดื่มน้ำอมฤตเพื่อแสดงว่าราหูมิได้เป็นผู้กระทำความผิด และตอนที่ได้รับพุทธพยากรณ์ การสร้างขึ้นใหม่เป็นเล่าที่มาของสถานะความเป็นเทพของราหู และประสบการณ์บุคคลซึ่งไม่อิงกับตำนานที่มีอยู่เดิม ได้แก่ โชคลาภจากราหู และความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของเครื่องราง เรื่องเล่าราหูในสื่อดิจิทัลมีพื้นที่จำกัดจึงมีเฉพาะตอนสำคัญ ได้แก่ กำเนิดและพงศ์พันธุ์, การลักดื่มน้ำอมฤต, การพบพระพุทธเจ้าและได้รับพุทธพยากรณ์, และการร่วมรจนาบทนะโม เรื่องเล่าราหูในสื่อสมัยใหม่มีบทบาทสำคัญทำให้ตำนานราหูจากวรรณคดีศาสนาและวรรณกรรมไทยเป็นที่รู้จักในสังคมไทยปัจจุบัน ช่วยสร้างเสริมความมั่นใจของผู้บูชา รับรองหรือสนับสนุนการบูชาราหูทั้งในแง่อามิสบูชาและปฏิบัติบูชา และช่วยอธิบายรูปแทนและเครื่องรางพระราหูที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นภายหลัง รวมถึงพิธีทรงเจ้าซึ่งอ้างว่าราหูเข้าร่างทรงเพื่อช่วยเหลือมนุษย์ ทั้งหมดนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นบทบาทของตำนานเทพปกรณัมในศาสนาพราหมณ์-ฮินดูซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานของตำนานเทวดาในพุทธศาสนาในการสร้างเรื่องเล่ารองรับความเชื่อและพิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับผีและวิญญาณในพุทธศาสนาปัจจุบัน

ปอุมจริยะของวิมลสูริเป็นวรรณคดีเรื่องรามายณะที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของศาสนาเชนและมีอิทธิพลต่อรามายณะฉบับของศาสนาเชนฉบับอื่นที่แต่งขึ้นภายหลัง วรรณคดีเรื่องรามายณะของศาสนาเชนจัดอยู่ในวรรณคดีเรื่องเล่าประเภทปุราณะหรือจริตะ มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้องกับแนวคิดศลากาปุรุษะซึ่งเป็นแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับวีรบุรุษในศาสนาเชน วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มุ่งศึกษาลักษณะเด่นของตัวละครราวณะในเรื่องปอุมจริยะ ซึ่งเป็นตัวละครปรปักษ์ของเรื่อง และศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของแนวคิดทางศาสนาเชนที่มีต่อตัวละครราวณะ ผลการศึกษาพบว่าลักษณะเด่นของราวณะในปอุมจริยะแบ่งเป็น 4 ด้าน ได้แก่ ลักษณะเด่นด้านรูปลักษณ์, ลักษณะนิสัย, ลักษณะเด่นด้านความสามารถ และลักษณะเด่นด้านลบจากมุมมองของตัวละครอื่น ลักษณะเด่นเหล่านี้ของราวณะมีทั้งด้านดีและด้านร้าย สะท้อนมิติตัวละครที่เป็นมากกว่าตัวละครปรปักษ์ผู้ประพฤติแต่ความชั่ว แต่ยังมีลักษณะวีรบุรุษผู้ทรงคุณธรรมซึ่งสอดคล้องกับบทบาทของราวณะในฐานะเชนศาสนิกผู้มีความภักดีต่อพระชินะ แนวคิดทางศาสนาเชนที่มีความสัมพันธ์ต่อตัวละครราวณะได้แก่แนวคิดทางจริยศาสตร์และแนวคิดเรื่องศลากาปุรุษะ กรอบแนวคิดทางจริยศาสตร์แบบเชนแสดงให้เห็นการสร้างตัวละครปรปักษ์ให้เป็นแบบอย่างของผู้ครองเรือนที่ไม่อาจรักษาอนุพรตไว้ได้อย่างสมบูรณ์ และท้ายสุดเมื่อสิ้นชีวิตต้องตกนรกเพราะกรรมที่ได้ทำไว้ ซึ่งเป็นภาพตรงกันข้ามกับตัวละครเอกคือพระรามผู้ประพฤติตามหลักศาสนาและตามหลักอหิงสา เมื่อถึงบั้นปลายของชีวิตก็ได้ออกบวชบำเพ็ญตบะจนบรรลุความหลุดพ้น ในขณะที่กรอบแนวคิดเรื่องศลากาปุรุษะมีอิทธิพลในการดัดแปลงบทบาทของตัวละครให้ต่างออกไปจากรามายณะฉบับของศาสนาพราหมณ์-ฮินดู ตามแนวคิดศลากาปุรุษะ ราวณะเป็นประติวาสุเทวะซึ่งเป็นคู่ขัดแย้งกับพระลักษมณ์ผู้เป็นวาสุเทวะ ประติวาสุเทวะจะถูกวาสุเทวะสังหารด้วยจักรของตนเอง ส่วนพระรามเป็นพลเทวะผู้ประพฤติอหิงสาและจะบรรลุความหลุดพ้น ในขณะที่ทั้งวาสุเทวะและประติวาสุเทวะจะต้องตกนรกเพราะกรรมที่ได้กระทำไว้ จึงนับได้ว่ากรอบแนวคิดทั้งสองข้างต้นเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่ทำให้ปอุมจริยะเป็นรามายณะของศาสนาเชนอย่างแท้จริง

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาคติเรื่องการอุทิศบุญในประเพณีเกี่ยวกับชีวิตจากวรรณคดีพระพุทธศาสนาภาษาบาลีที่สำคัญ และพิธีกรรมความเชื่อที่ยึดถือปฏิบัติในปัจจุบัน วรรณคดีพระพุทธศาสนาที่ใช้ศึกษา ได้แก่ พระไตรปิฎก อรรถกถา มิลินทปัญหา มาเลยยเทวัตเถรวัตถุ และมังคลัตถทีปนี ส่วนพิธีกรรมความเชื่อศึกษาจากบทกรวดน้ำที่ใช้ในพิธีและคำอธิบายของพระอาจารย์ที่มีชื่อเสียง 8 รูป ผลการศึกษาพบว่าพระไตรปิฎกมีความคิดเรื่องการอุทิศบุญจากการถวายทานแด่เทวดาหรือญาติผู้ล่วงลับ ในชั้นอรรถกถาเป็นต้นไป การอุทิศบุญถือว่าเป็นการทำบุญอย่างหนึ่งหลังจากการทำบุญใด ๆ ซึ่งผู้รับส่วนบุญจะต้องรับรู้และอนุโมทนา ในประเพณีไทย การอุทิศบุญอยู่ในช่วงที่พระภิกษุสงฆ์สวดอนุโมทนาบุญและผู้อุทิศบุญกรวดน้ำ บทกรวดน้ำที่ใช้ในประเพณีไทยมีเนื้อหาและความคิดสอดคล้องกับวรรณคดีพระพุทธศาสนาในชั้นอรรถกถา ส่วนคำอธิบายเรื่องการอุทิศบุญของพระภิกษุร่วมสมัยมีส่วนที่เหมือนและแตกต่างจากวรรณคดีพระพุทธศาสนา กล่าวคือ มีทั้งท่านที่อธิบายตามคัมภีร์พระพุทธศาสนา, ท่านที่แสดงรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมโดยอาศัยประสบการณ์ทางจิต, และท่านที่ไม่ให้ความสำคัญกับการอุทิศบุญอันเป็นผลจากการเน้นคำสอนอื่นที่สำคัญ แสดงให้เห็นว่าความคิดเรื่องการอุทิศบุญในสังคมไทยมีความหลากหลายในภาพรวม การอุทิศบุญยังคงมีความสำคัญในประเพณีเกี่ยวกับชีวิตของไทย เป็นการบำเพ็ญกุศลแก่ญาติผู้ล่วงลับรวมไปถึงมิตรสหายที่รู้จัก เจ้ากรรมนายเวร ทั้งสรรพสัตว์ต่าง ๆ ในโลก จึงถือว่าเป็นการทำบุญอย่างหนึ่งที่ไม่จำกัดขอบเขตและให้ผลมาก

Tsuji Zennosuke 辻善之助 (1877–1955), the dominant figure in Buddhist historical scholarship in Japan from the 1930s until the mid-1950s, is known to have employed a broad range of sources in order to provide a comprehensive analysis of his subject. This essay examines Tsuji’s conception of Buddhist history in relation to the emer- gence of both National Historical Studies (kokushigaku 国史学) and so-called State Shintō (kokka shintō 国家神道) and argues against the image of Tsuji as an “objec- tive historian” resistant to nationalist trends in historical scholarship. Iconography has been used to represent the experience of awakening in the Buddhist traditions for millennia. The Mahāyāna Buddhist traditions are especially renowned for their rich pantheons of buddhas and bodhisattvas who illuminate and inspire practitioners. In addition, the Vajrayāna branch of Mahāyāna Buddhism presents a host of meditational deities (yidam) who serve as catalysts of awakening. These awakened beings are regarded as objects of refuge for practitioners, both female and male, who visualize themselves in detail as embodiments of specific enlightened figures, female or male, with all their enlightened qualities. This study focuses on the role played by the work of Leo Tolstoy (1828–1910) in shaping socialism and agrarian-Buddhist utopianism in Japan. As Japanese translations of Tolstoy’s fiction and philosophy, and accounts of his life became more available at the end of the 19th century, his ideas on the individual, religion, society, and politics had a tremendous impact on the generation coming of age in the 1900s and his popularity grew among young intellectuals. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the politics and conceptualization of gender in Thailand, drawing specifically on the Thai understanding of sex and gender with regard to the kathoey population. This work considers the solidification of a third-gender category and looks to the ways this solidification can inhibit the fluidity of gender and sexuality. It also analyzes the dangers of transnational advocacy and the superimposition of Western queer advocacy and theory on Thai gender identities.
