The purpose of this research project was to create a children's story cookbook that addresses the dietary adaptions to avoid gluten and wheat for children diagnosed with celiac. Children's literature has a need for a cookbook that will have recipes appealing to children and have pictures that will make the recipes/ food more visually attractive. The book also included child friendly directions so that a parent can assist a child in preparing the food. The story cookbook also told the story of a young child who has celiac, who is learning to eat differently and to adapt to her disease. …

In The Land of Give and Take, Tyler Farrell’s second collection of poems, a variety of characters appear as on a stage: teenagers and grandparents, priests and poets, the wise and the foolish, professors and proles. Their stories are told by an acute narrator, or often by the characters themselves, and as one poem says, “someone buys the story.” The reader buys these stories for their authenticity and pathos. Shadowing many of the poems is a conflicted Catholicism, sometimes resentful of the churches claims, but recognizing that nothing else gives weight and meaning to the lives of these transient …

This article provides an initial approach for capturing moments of talk about, around, and for writing to explain why writing groups and writing conferences are so often considered “transformative” for the people involved. After describing the widespread and yet disparate transformations so often attributed to collaborative writing talk, I introduce applied conversation analysis (CA) as a method for getting at what is often difficult to identify, document, and explain: the intricacies of moments that underlie, if not directly account for, transformations. For years, critics and fans of C. S. Lewis have noted his curious attentiveness to descriptions of food and scenes of eating. Some attempts have been made to interpret Lewis's use of food, but never in a manner comprehensively unifying Lewis's culinary expressions with his own thought and beliefs. My study seeks to fill this void. The introduction demonstrates how Lewis's culinary language aggregates through elements of his life, his literary background, and his Judeo-Christian worldview. The students wrote art analysis essays and the researcher collected the essays and analyzed them for patterns or themes. The students participating in the thesis included Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Mexican-American, Japanese and American students. "This thesis combines diary study with autoethnography to report an MATESL candidate's study abroad experience as an advanced learner of French. The writer summarizes language-learning experiences in Quebec and France while focusing on his second study abroad experience in France, where he encountered an educational system that was inconsistent with his training as a language teacher and his learning style as a language learner. Even in a day when historicism in literary studies is ubiquitous, the pitch and duration of historicist fervor that has surrounded Conrad’s Heart of Darkness is extraordinary. Since its original publication over a century ago, the text has flourished amid a swarm of meta-textual narratives variously critical, political, philosophical, and historical. As Benita Parry attests, Heart of Darkness has enjoyed a “singular afterlife” (41), one that Allan Simmons aptly captures in the metaphor of “a pendulum swinging back and forth between aesthetics and history” (104). An adaptation of William Shakespeare's play of the same name, Love's Labour's Lost 2.0 utilizes the social network website Facebook as its stage so as to explore the unique problems and opportunities that social media affords identity creation. Through this lens, I find that identity creation in this digital world is discursively composed, much like identity in the analog world, and serves to shunt dissent or action that may threaten the status quo. Facebook's ultimate promise to this constantly composing individual is the comfort and security of an audience.

This thesis is a work of fiction. It is a short novel written to entertain and to explore ideas of identity, family, friendship, and what it takes to find a place in the modem world. It follows a young man named Noah through the events of a single summer as he tries to make sense of his life. Its setting and characters are definitively Iowan, but its events and conflicts speak to the human condition at large. Lorraine Elena Roses and Ruth Elizabeth Randolph, with their publication, Harlem Renaissance And Beyond: Literary Biographies of 100 Black Women Writers 1900-1945, embarked on a mission to bring to the forefront of literary scholarship black women who wrote significant works in the early twentieth century, but who have received little or no recognition.
