ประมวลศัพท์เรื่องระบบส่งกำลังรถยนต์, พัชรี มณีเนตร

สารนิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาทฤษฎีและกระบวนการทางศัพทวิทยา ตลอดจนระเบียบวิธีการประมวลศัพท์ และนำความรู้ที่ได้รับมาจัดทำประมวลศัพท์เรื่องระบบส่งกำลังรถยนต์ ประมวลศัพท์อันเป็นผลจากการวิจัยนี้มุ่งให้เกิดประโยชน์ในฐานะเครื่องมือสำหรับนักแปลในแวดวงยานยนต์ รวมทั้งเป็นแหล่งอ้างอิงสำหรับผู้ที่สนใจและบุคคลทั่วไป ในการประมวลศัพท์ครั้งนี้ ผู้จัดทำได้นำเอาทฤษฎีและแนวทางในการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์ที่นักศัพทวิทยาได้เสนอไว้มาประยุกต์ใช้ โดยแบ่งการดำเนินงานเป็น 6 ขั้นตอน คือ (1) กำหนดหัวข้อ วัตถุประสงค์ และขอบเขตในการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์ (2) ศึกษาทฤษฎี และระเบียบวิธีการทำประมวลศัพท์ (3) สร้างคลังข้อมูลภาษา ดึงและคัดเลือกศัพท์จากคลังข้อมูลภาษา (4) กำหนดมโนทัศน์สัมพันธ์ของศัพท์ทั้งหมด (5) จัดทำบันทึกข้อมูลศัพท์เบื้องต้น (6) จัดทำบันทึกข้อมูลศัพท์ ประมวลศัพท์เรื่องระบบส่งกำลังรถยนต์นี้ ประกอบด้วยศัพท์จำนวน 31 คำ โดยนำเสนอศัพท์ตามกลุ่มมโนทัศน์สัมพันธ์ ประกอบด้วยคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ ศัพท์เทียบเคียงภาษาไทย ประเภททางไวยากรณ์ หมวดเรื่อง คำนิยาม บริบท หมายเหตุ รูปศัพท์อื่น ๆ และข้อมูลอ้างอิง

สารนิพนธ์เล่มนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อศึกษาหากลวิธีการแปลนิยายภาพเรื่องซากา (Saga) ของ ไบรอัน เค วอว์น (Brian K. Vaughan) และฟิโอนา สเตเปิลส์ (Fiona Staples) เนื่องจากนิยายภาพ แตกต่างจากการแปลหนังสือทั่วไปตรงที่นอกจากการถ่ายทอดความหมายโดยคำนึงถึงความแตกต่างด้านสำนวนภาษาหรือวัฒนธรรมแล้ว ภาพก็เป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญอีกประการหนึ่งซึ่งนักแปล ต้องพิจารณาด้วย จึงจำเป็นต้องปรับเปลี่ยนคำในบทแปลให้สอดคล้องกับภาพที่ปรากฎเพื่อให้ฟังดูเป็นธรรมชาติในภาษาปลายทาง ไม่ขัดกับสิ่งที่เห็นในภาพหรือสีหน้าของตัวละคร ความท้าทายอีกประการหนึ่งคือการจัดวางจำนวนคำในบทแปลให้พอดีกับกรอบคำพูดซึ่งมีขนาดจำกัดในต้นฉบับ ด้วยเหตุนี้ ผู้แปลจึงสนใจศึกษาประเด็นดังกล่าวโดยอาศัยทฤษฏีการแปลที่เกี่ยวข้องคือกรอบการวิเคราะห์และแปลนิยายภาพของเคลาส์ ไคน์เดิล (Klaus Kaindl) และใช้ทฤษฏีการวิเคราะห์หลากรูปแบบ (Multimodal Theory) ตามหลักการและแนวทางของมิคัล โบโรโด (Michal Borodo) ปรับเปลี่ยนวัจนภาษาจากต้นฉบับให้ได้บทแปลซึ่งเหมาะสมกับอวัจนภาษาที่ปรากฎเพื่อให้ได้บทแปลที่เหมาะสมกับภาพที่ปรากฎ ผลการวิจัยคือเมื่อปรับเปลี่ยนคำที่เป็นประเด็นในภาษาปลายทางตามประเภทการปรับเปลี่ยนที่โบโรโดได้แบ่งไว้ก็ทำให้ได้บทแปลที่เข้ากับทั้งภาพและบริบทในหน้านั้น อีกทั้งได้รับการปรับให้เหมาะสมกับพื้นฐานความรู้และวัฒนธรรมของผู้อ่านชาวไทย

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาปัญหาการแปลคำซ้ำ ที่พบในวรรณกรรมเยาวชนเรื่อง เมื่อคุณตาคุณยายยังเด็ก เล่ม 1 ประพันธ์โดย ทิพย์วาณี สนิทวงศ์ ณ อยุธยา จากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ โดยใช้ต้นฉบับ 10 บทเป็นกรณีศึกษา ปัญหาการแปลคำซ้ำยังไม่ได้มีการศึกษาอย่างจริงจังเมื่อเทียบกับปัญหาการแปลจากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษด้านอื่น ๆ ทั้ง ๆ ที่ไม้ยมกเป็นเครื่องหมายกำกับคำซ้ำที่มีการใช้อย่างแพร่หลายในภาษาไทยมาอย่างช้านาน นอกจากนี้กระบวนการซ้ำคำเพื่อสร้างคำใหม่ก็เป็นปรากฏการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในหลาย ๆ ภาษา และทั้งภาษาไทยและภาษาอังกฤษก็มีการซ้ำคำเช่นกัน สารนิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาขั้นตอนในการแปล วิเคราะห์ปัญหาในการแปล ตลอดจนนำเสนอแนวทางการแก้ปัญหานั้นเพื่อให้ได้บทแปลที่มีความสละสลวยทางภาษาและได้อรรถรสทัดเทียมกับต้นฉบับ ผู้วิจัยศึกษาทฤษฎีการแปลและแนวคิดต่าง ๆ อันได้แก่ แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับคำซ้ำภาษาไทย แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับคำซ้ำภาษาอังกฤษ ประเภทของความหมายของคำซ้ำภาษาไทย ประเภทของความหมายของคำซ้ำภาษาอังกฤษ แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับการแปลคำซ้ำ ทฤษฎีการแปลแบบยึดความหมาย ทฤษฎีสโคพอส และการวิเคราะห์วาทกรรม เพื่อช่วยในการวิเคราะห์ปัญหาที่พบในการแปล และค้นหาแนวการทางแก้ไขการแปลคำซำ หลังจากที่ได้ศึกษาทฤษฎีและแนวคิดข้างต้น ตลอดจนลงมือแปลบทที่เลือกมาศึกษาโดยยึดทฤษฎีการแปลแบบยึดความหมายเป็นสำคัญ ผู้วิจัยพบว่า แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับความหมายของคำซ้ำและแนวทางการแปลคำซ้ำของอาจารย์และผู้รู้หลาย ๆ ท่าน มีประโยชน์อย่างยิ่งในการพิจารณาคำซ้ำในแง่มุมทางโครงสร้างและการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางความหมายต่าง ๆ จนสามารถนำไปสู่การแปลคำซ้ำได้จริง

การประชุมในบริบทของประชาคมอาเซียนทวีจำนวนตามการพัฒนาและกรอบความร่วมมือที่เพิ่มขึ้นในภูมิภาคนี้ แต่อุปสรรคในการสื่อสารภาษาอังกฤษยังคงเป็นประเด็นสำคัญที่ลดประสิทธิภาพการประชุม งานวิจัยนี้ได้เก็บข้อมูลจากการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เกี่ยวข้องในการประชุมในบริบทอาเซียน พบว่าการกำหนดให้ใช้เฉพาะภาษาอังกฤษในที่ประชุม บ่อยครั้งกระทบต่อความเข้าใจเนื้อหาการประชุมและการมีส่วนร่วมของผู้เข้าร่วมจากแต่ละประเทศ โดยเฉพาะการประชุมในระดับปฏิบัติการมักได้รับผลกระทบมากที่สุดเพราะต้องเผชิญปัจจัยที่ทำให้การสื่อสารภาษาอังกฤษเป็นอุปสรรค เช่น ปัจจัยด้านงบประมาณจ้างล่ามที่มีจำกัด ความสามารถใช้ภาษาอังกฤษของผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมที่หลากหลาย เป็นต้น ผลการวิเคราะห์บทสัมภาษณ์ยังชี้ว่าการจัดจ้างล่ามเพื่อลดอุปสรรคด้านการสื่อสารในที่ประชุมที่เหมาะสมที่สุดสำหรับประชาคมอาเซียนคือใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษากลางในการล่ามสู่ภาษาอื่นๆ ถึงกระนั้นก็ยังติดประเด็นเรื่องนโยบายของประชาคมอาเซียนเองที่กำหนดให้ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาทางการภาษาเดียว ไม่สนับสนุนให้มีการจ้างล่าม ซึ่งแตกต่างโดยสิ้นเชิงจากสหภาพยุโรปที่สนับสนุนหลักพหุภาษานิยมหรือนโยบายภาษาทางการและภาษาปฏิบัติการที่หลากหลาย ปัญหาดังกล่าวทำให้ผู้เกี่ยวข้องในการประชุมในบริบทอาเซียนต้องหาทางออกให้การสื่อสารในที่ประชุมเกิดขึ้นได้ด้วยวิธีต่างๆ ตามอัตภาพ นอกจากนี้ยังมีความเป็นไปได้น้อยมากที่ประชาคมอาเซียนจะจัดตั้งหน่วยงานอำนวยการล่ามในที่ประชุมเหมือนที่สหภาพยุโรปมี

Gabbard จากคำศัพท์ที่คัดสรรทั้งสิ้น 30 คำ โดยมีสมมติฐานของการวิจัยว่า แนวทางการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทของคริสติอาเน นอร์ด แนวทางการแปลแบบตีความและยึดความหมายของฌอง เดอลิล แนวทางการสร้างคำในภาษาอังกฤษของอิงโก แพลก แนวทางการแปลคำสร้างใหม่ของปีเตอร์ นิวมาร์ก และหลักเกณฑ์การบัญญัติศัพท์ของราชบัณฑิตยสถานของมงคล เดชนครินทร์ จะสามารถนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ในกระบวนการแปลคำศัพท์ทางจิตเวชศาสตร์ที่คัดสรร เพื่อให้สามารถถ่ายทอดความหมายของคำศัพท์ได้อย่างถูกต้อง มีลักษณะของความเป็นศัพท์เฉพาะทาง ผลการวิจัยแสดงให้เห็นว่า แนวทางการวิเคราะห์ตัวบท แนวทางการแปลแบบตีความและยึดความหมาย แนวทางการสร้างคำในภาษาอังกฤษ แนวทางการแปลคำสร้างใหม่ และหลักเกณฑ์การบัญญัติศัพท์ สามารถนำมาใช้เพื่อแปลคำศัพท์ทางจิตเวชศาสตร์ได้ตามสมมติฐาน

In his article "Literary Creolization in Layachi's A Life Full of Holes" Maarten van Gageldonk discusses the publication of Larbi Layachi's 1964 book by Grove Press based on a transcription and translation by Paul Bowles. In his article "Authorship in Burroughs's Red Night Trilogy and Bowles's Translation of Moroccan Storytellers" Benjamin J. Heal discusses Paul Bowles's and William S. Burroughs's varying interrogation of the constructed nature of authorship. This study examines the translators’ invisibility in postcolonial translated Palestinian fiction. On one hand, this analysis revolves around the ethical stance of translators towards authors in a postcolonial theoretical framework. On the other, it brings postcolonial translation scholars’ approaches into practice and examination. Therefore, this study provides a critical analysis of reading novels in translation as both a channel of decolonization from Oriental and imperial discourses and an aesthetic catalyst for freedom in exile, specifically translated by Trevor LeGassick, Elizabeth Fernea, Salma Jayyusi, Adnan Haydar, and Roger Allen. In this paper, I use Moshe Held-Chaim Cohen’s method to try to establish a preferable reading of Isaiah chapter 6 in light of the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS). The importance of the DSS for biblical textual criticism has not been rightly appreciated on the aspect that very few commentaries or critical study of a particular biblical text make use of it. In his 1940 preface “On Translating Beowulf,” J.R.R. Tolkien contends that “The effort to translate, or to improve a translation, is valuable, not so much for the version it produces, as for the understanding of the original which it awakes” (53). Though made with a specific literary tradition in mind, Tolkien’s assertion about the value of translation bears re-visitation in light of circumstances where the terminology has shifted. This article reports on research project analyzing the specific terms of cultural expressions that exist in Madura Island, the strategies in translating Madurese cultural expressions into English, andhow the strategies of transferring messages take place. The sources of data utilized in this study were the translators in the local government, private sectors, educational institutions, and both official and unofficial documents throughout the region containing Madurese cultural expressions. The data were collected using document analysis, questionnaire distribution, and in-depth interviews. The analysis was carried out in view of interactive model. The active scholarly contribution made by practitioners of theatre translation in the past decades has turned the research area into what is now considered a burgeoning field. Despite recent developments, it seems that performability, a long-discussed yet controversial concept in the study of theatre translation, would remain part of the practitioners’ discourse.
